      It’s a nice job but working for the public can be challenging everyone seems to be an expert blade operator if your the general public it’s got it’s good and bad like every job has.

      YES, and I bet it gets tiring doing the same thing over and over and always having to be perfect, just like you said the Public that Pays Taxes is always judging you. I have MOWED public roads with Flail mower for 15 years. The general Public always is a big Judge & Jury and complaining to Government HQ back at the County HQ. I always tried to mow as good as possible with a Flail, but it has limits especially around sign posts and any build up in ditch.

    Gees man.... Mighty fine work you're doing. I'm sure that the maintainers around my area of Texas County Oklahoms understood about 5 percent of the words you said throughout the entire video. They are dumb as hell. 4% crown on a road? Never heard of it. Majority of our roads out here have water standing in the middle because they send the windrows to each side. Ditches? nah, that's a foreign word to them. I'm a farmer who has an old 1952 Caterpillar 12 and I can build a better road then them. Anyways, good job, keep it up, you certainly are a master of the trade.

    We’ve got 1 mile of private red clay road here in north west Alabama. My cousin built it to county specs back a couple three years ago. He used a sheep’s foot compactor and graded it with his cat 140. I put down clean #4 base rock but I haven’t dressed it with 3/4 minus yet. I was wondering if it was necessary to put that base rock down first? I’ve still got 1/2 mile I’m going to build one day when the finances are in place.
    Thanks

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  Год назад +3

      I’d recommend you put the base rock down first otherwise lot of your 3/4 minus will disappear in to your sub grade if ya don’t want to place rock you could lay out fabric but that gets expensive quickly hopefully this helps ya out thanks for the question and thanks for watching

    Thank you for your excellent experience at grading gravel Public ROW. Your video A+ your work is masterful. One question how do you like JOY stick control on the New style of CAT grader. I see that other brands have kept there steering wheel. For me personally for long trips back to base. I prefer a steering wheel on just ROADING grader. What say you sense you do this Day in a day out. Being in seat, for years with the Levers on each side of wheel, then a big change to Joy sticks. Would Love your opinion on the major change in control platform on CAT graders.

      Thanks for the compliment I’m glad others can learn from my knowledge and see the pride I take in my roads as far as your question I absolutely love the joysticks on the cat M series I don’t miss the steering wheel at all my opinion is why other brands leave the steering wheel in is they don’t have the same level of steering that cat has I’ve run the Deere joystick controls and there steering is horrible with the joystick hope this gives some insight for you I appreciate you watching and the question.

    Question(s)?
    What do you run for air pressures in the winter for snow removal?
    Do you have any other tips with setting up a blade for winter? We have no wings or front plows with them.

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  Год назад +2

      I myself run 55psi in the front 2 55 on my right side tandems with my wing and 45 on my left side with you not having a wing or plow I’d run 45 psi in all 6 tires and honestly not much else to get blade ready for snow

    How does the water get off the road that you leave the maintenance windrow on? It seems it would be a dam that just stops the water and holds it on the road. Never seen this maintenance windrow done before where I'm at but most of the gravel roads are gone in my area now. They also cut from ditch to ditch and cover the road from ditch to ditch and don't leave a windrow at all. NC, Rowan county.

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  Год назад +1

      My maintenance windrow will hold back a little water but it generally washes right through not causing any problems in my opinion the benefits of having a maintenance windrow out weigh the negatives.

    Trying to maintain a gravel road at an old quarry the county acquired. Trying to put blended stone in but they have core stone mixed in. Is there a way to weed out core stone and leave the blend? Trying to figure it out and it's whooping me lol

      Oh man that’s definitely tough to work with I’ve had that similar situation and I windrowed the material up and had a rock bucket on a skid loader sift through to get the bigger rocks out that worked the best otherwise if you can get like 4 or 5 inches of good material over it.
