  • Kaguya-Sama is one of my favourite manga, it's also one of my favourite anime. One of the reasons it's one of my favourite anime is because of how different its adaptation is to any other adaptation I've watched before, so I wanted to talk about that.

      One of my favourite things about Kaguya-sama is how deceptively deep it is! Thank you for the kind words, I've got lots of ideas for videos and how to improve so I'm excited to see where that takes me :D

      @@phoenyck I consider Kaguya to be a subversive masterpiece, so I'm glad people recognize how truly deep the narrative is! And I've seen a fair share of small channels and have noticed that a few of them just seem to "get" it and make banger videos, and your channel is among those! I am subbed!

    Great analysis on the medium, the anime team really nailed it in all departments.
    One thing thou - it's up to interpretation but if you watch anime first (like I did) the Exam arc looks like a great piece foreshadowing - we yet to see the flashback why Shirogane fell for Kaguya (the swamp incident) but it shows us the same thing that she's not afraid to get her hands dirty and do the right but unpleasant thing if she sees the problem even if it will cost her. And regarding the motivation - the first thing she mentions is that if Ishigami fails and get himself held back it will damage the reputation of Student Council as whole (including her own) which is quite in line with her Shinomiya pride trait. She later mentions President in conversation but more of an after though.
    So I'm not entirely convinced that this version is worse at flashing out her character then the original with imaginary debt to him. It also plays nicely with later revelation that she was the first Student Council member who noticed Ishigami situation and brought the attention of President to it.

      Thanks! And completely fair interpretation that she helped him for her own reputation as well. For me though, it feels like since they didn't have Kaguya feel like she owed a debt, they used different motivations for her. When she thinks to herself "it's not only you who will be inconvenienced" I think she was referring specifically to Shirogane as when she says at the end of story "Without you, the president will be troubled" it bookends the reasoning she gave at the beginning; to me it feels like those are her true feelings and not an afterthought. I don't think this is necessarily bad but I just don't like how it makes it seem (to me) that she'll only do stuff for Shirogane. Obviously with your interpretation this isn't the case! I do think the fact she was the one who noticed Ishigami's middle school situation and brought it up to Shirogane is definitely a highlight of her character no matter which medium you look at though!

    You should totally watch the monogatari series to see the roots from which kaguya adaptation came from and how it made the cast so passionate. Also monogatari is literally the most perfect adaptation for any anime I've ever seen. Might just change your top 10. It certainly changed my top 1.

      I've actually watched Bakemonogatari! I really liked it and I am planning on watching the rest as well, just have to find the time 😅. Interesting to know that it helped inspire the Kaguya adaptation, I didn't know that!

      Rewatch bakemonogatari you'll know. All the random fun things they add in kaguya is completely inspired by monogatari's storytelling style. Flash cards and shit

    Its adaptation is a large part in why its my favorite anime wail its not my favorite manga even tho im only at the start of season 2 because iv been perfering to buy it then read it on a website but the manga I still enjoy because the cut content from the anime feels like dlc when reading the manga instead of being missing content

    Kaguya animator team has a new contender in the for of Romantic Killer... while the manga is not really great or exceptional (its fine), the anime adaptation from a technical viewpoint knocked it out of the park.

    my problem with anime is adapting less important chapters , ova for example it was so boring , they could have made ova with some funnier chapters but choose lamest ones .

    • @phoenyck
      @phoenyck  Год назад +1

      I can definitely agree with the fact that they could pick more relevant chapters to adapt, but I will say I thought the OVA was hilarious, and choosing the lewdest chapters for it really helped set the tone. And with how far they went in some parts I thought wouldn't fly if it was a main episode in the series.

    I will admit the manga was really hard to read in early chapters. So flipped on the anime. I was expecting it to be not meant for me, yet great show.
    Nope, the anime did it perfectly to be an outright masterpiece.

    Its definitely a great adaptation, but the manga still does it better.
    Season 3 cuts out 2 really important chapters (92, 112) which showcases Miyuki's character and his philosophies going forward in the story. We missed a lot of Miyuki screentime in season 3 and in return we got a few irrelevant comedic chapters that served zero purpose in the plot (10-yen game for example).
    "I... I'm not a good person by any means. Perhaps that's why I have a longing for kindness that borders on obsession." - Kaguya (92)
    Being a manga reader first, the anime's character designs just feels cheap. The colors are washed out and the characters were poorly drawn in season 1 and 2. I mean, compared to the manga, the anime is bound to look worse. I just feel like the art of the manga is lost in translation.
    The music has always felt off to me. Its always been too goofy and chaotic for something I considered as a slice-of-life chill kind of anime.
    Even with all this, the anime is still well above most other anime out there.

    • @ekaterine4300
      @ekaterine4300 Год назад +3

      I agree about 92 and 112 , it was ultraromantic season and they skipped most important chapters for main couple and adapted most irrelevant chapters , it would be iconic episode with cat maid kaguya but they choose armwrestling chapter over actual great one.

    • @phoenyck
      @phoenyck  Год назад

      Yeah I think you're right with which chapters they chose to adapt, I think they did a high quality job, but could have picked more relevant/important ones. I didn't think about it at the time as I read the season 3 manga content a little after season 2 came so didn't really remember what had been skipped when season 3 did come out.
      There is definitely a style the manga has which the anime doesn't, I really appreciated that fact when I made the thumbnail! But I don't necessarily think one is worse than the other. I think the manga has higher peaks and valleys in terms of quality, and the anime is more consistent, but because it goes for a more "safe" style, something is definitely lost.
      I personally don't consider the anime to be slice-of-life/chill which is why I like the music, but I think it's interesting that our different perspectives do affect that. It's probably because I started with the anime.
      Really appreciated your comment, I love having discussions about this type of thing 😄
