A little bit of Fridge Horror for you all:
In the Stretching Room at the beginning, the Ghost Host says that there are no windows and no doors, which means there's no way out... then he says "Of course, there's always my way." Then the room goes dark before lighting up again, ad then the secret passage opens.
Now, all this time I assumed that passage to the ride was what the Host meant. But if you look, a body is seen hanging above the ceiling.
That's /his body/. THAT was his "way out."
Ah, memories. I havent been to Disney for so long. When I was younger I used to absalutely love this rude. Itll always be my favorite one.
This ride was great. I was 8 years old and frightened as hell at first, but then was loving it as it went on, and afterwards felt like I was a brave person for having ridden it. Every kid needs to ride this together with their dad when they're young.
As much as I love EVERY ride at Disney World, this will always be my most favorite! I could stay on it for hours! Only 3 more months!!! :)
My favorite line by a CM at the Haunted Mansion:
"Drag your wretched bodies to the dead center of the room." Haha! I love this attraction :)
I also thank you for posting this! This has always been my favorite ride at Walt Disney World!!! I have been 6 times in the past. The first time was when I was about 12 and the most recent was when I was 22 back in '10. I am now almost 27 and I am saving up money and plan on going sometime next year in maybe June or July of '13. And coming from a guy in a wheelchair, Disney employees go far and beyond the call of duty to help out their guests with disabilities!
This is such an awesome ride. Loved it when I went to DW a few years ago.
I am so glad, I had gotten over my childhood fears of this ride, because this has become one of my top 5 rides to do while visiting Disney, this ride will always hold fantastic memories for me.

I love the HM! This is a great ride my husband and I can get on together. He is afraid of heights. We rode it 4 times last trip! Love the bride in the attic!
My husband and I were there a two weeks ago. I was so impressed I would love to know how they did all those effects. I can't wait to go back.
Wow! That was surprisingly great video for such a dark ride! I go on it every year when I go to Florida! It's my favorite ride. I love the mirrors at the end now that they got the ghosts to do tricks! I remember when I was little I used to be scared to death to go into that room before the ride. Went in it last year and thought it was fun. I can't believe I've never noticed the hidden Mickey before! I'm so going to have to pay attention when I go in May.
This is one of my favorite rides I used to be scared of it when I was really young but thanks to your videos I went on it again and I loved it!

I was on this ride in '93, which now seems to be 20 years ago!?! Bloody hell, where does the time go?? This sure does bring back wonderful memories, though...Seems to be the same overall concepts even then. I can't wait to take my nephew down and re-live it all vicariously through him : - )
it really breaks the scaryness when he says "and PLEASE do watch your children." and "do PLEASE stay together."

ok is it me or when I was I think 7 the beginning of the ride scared me and I mean the paintings
I like this video because it was recorded at night and in my opinion, it gives more ghostly ambiance.

I've been going to Disneyland once a year since I was born, but this year, my family won't get to go. Watching this video helps me remember what Disneyland is like.
I was in a group of 6 and we went on this ride during our band trip. I told my group, since they haven't been on this ride before, when you gett in the elevator thing, and it goes dark don't be surprised. But yet everyone in our rotunda/elevator screamed when it went dark. Funniest thing in the world. Awesome ride too.
One of them is a hallway that leads to the "chicken exit" and the load area. The other door is a hallway that leads to the entrance foyer. They are both simple hallways, but themed with wallpaper and light fixtures that fit in with the mansion decor. The chicken exit hall also had two of the stretching portaits framed, just the upper half. (the widow on the grave and man on dynamite). Recently, that entire portion has been re-done and I havent had a chance to see it yet.
I can't wait to see how Guillermo Del Toro will treat the Haunted Mansion. I'm really looking forward to what his version of the Bride will be.
I remember last summer when I was on the haunted mansion, there was a Brazillian tour group that kept chanting and yelling DURING THE RIDE. They totally killed the spooky theme -.-
I went there as a young kid in 1991. I was 7 years old. I remember that no one spoke at ALL, not like in this video where it seems the moms talk even more than the kids! Back then the employee accompanying us was not that strict. I remember he was dressed as some sort of vampire/ghost, and he was acting like one as well, he was not yelling at all... The woman who's taking his job here just doesn't give a damn about atmosphere! Best parts for me were the dying portrait and the ballroom part!
I love this full ride but only went on this ride at Disney World but its an awesome ride
i think they did a real good job with the upgrades that they did to this ride a few years ago :) but i sure do miss the spider room lol
You walk through the front door to the foyer, or whatever, and then walk to the conveyer area. I like the mechanisms in the line on the wait for the ride. You can push buttons and stuff. :3
We were on this ride when it broke down... after they couldn't get the playful spirits to leave, all the lights came on, that really spoils the whole experience; any way, cast members came to each 'carriage' and helped folks to disembark. There are steps all a long the ride so that it's easy to exit. We were at the point were the 'seance' is taking place. Other rides also stopped at that time and the monorails stopped running for a period of time, the only way to leave the park was by boat,.
Lol, this is awesome. I remember the painting of the girl with the umbrella, and as you went down, you saw she was on a tightrope above a crocodile. o3o

Probably my favorite Disney ride, though I really miss the pre-2007 refurbished version, because that's the Haunted Mansion of my childhood, with the dark, spidery room, the stary-eyed portraits, and the scarier attic.

omg it only feels like two days ago i was watching these vids before my holiday in march
i went back in October, and after the second time we went on this ride, my mom told me that in the room with the piano playing, if you look at the floor, you can see the shadow of the ghost playing it. so the next time we went on, I looked and I nearly crapped myself, it was so scary D: still one of my favorite rides though
i live in southern ca and work right across the street from disneyland...and i still want to go to florida to see WDW. the rides look alot cooler. and i hear its huge!

I remember the ride got stuck where the heads pop out unexpectedly...
It's more of a dark ride that goes slow and it doesn't have big hills that make you drop like splash mountain. Although there is a hill toward the end and make the car go backward. And beside, it's almost completetly dark and you won't see the height.
I saw a teenager come out of this crying when I was 9 and I thought it was awesome

yea im 43 and i went when i was like 9 and i remember at the end of the ride you would look in a mirror and there was a ghost sitting next to you.dont remember much but i remember that.
when i went i was old enough to be scared ( like 6yrs old ) of the haunted mansion and pirates of the carribean ride ....... i was scared of the dark
i was scared of that ride when i was liitle but now... i love IT
oooo i get it! the walls aren't really stretching the floor is just moving down at a very slow rate, not enough for you to feel while ficusing your attention onto the paintings, the seemingly stretchy wall and the narrarator's menacing voice ^-^
Man... I would do ANYTHING to get back on this ride right now!
But this was meant for more of a family-fun ride. Trust me, Disney could make this ALOT scarier if they wanted to.

@gymnastics1248 If you want to avoid being scared then just remember that nothing bad is going to happen. Think about how fun it is and all of the things that you love in the ride. It also helps if you know how some of the things work in the Mansion, like the ballroom scene. It usually helps you keep calm. Plus it gives you something to talk with you're friends about while you're waiting in line which will keep you from worrying.

@vanhalenfan4747 yes but they changed it a bit. The ghost now interacts with you like taking off your head, switching heads with you and switching clothes with you. its pretty cool. i think they were doing the construction for it when this video was filmed.

When I was young, I remembered those ghosts looking so real! I'm not sure...but isn't this the ride where you can see green/maybe blue ghosts sitting next to you at some point? I remember there being a mirror and being able to see a ghost through it. I'm not sure though.
Nothing scary like makes your heart faint, although there is a part that is spooky scary which is the attic (the headless husbands in each portrait and the axe murderer bride)
The scariest potrait was - before going on the moving chair was the one showing three men - one on top of the other, sinking into quicksand. I hate quicksand and I'm afraid of it

@Rw7451 It's not boring in there. Just becuase the ride doesn't go fast and go upside down and stuff doesn't mean it's boring. It's one of those things you have to be there to enjoy mostly. The atmosphere in the place is very cool, the smells and stuff like that. And you don't have to pay to ride the ride. You just have to pay to get into the Magic Kingdom. (If you aren't staying in a Disney Hotel)
I'm sad because I went to Disney World when I was 6 (I'm 14 now), and now I can hardly remember it, even though it was such an amazing experience.
if anyone wants to know a fact about the mansion stretching room you don't move at all the only thing moving is the celling its just the illusion that u r going down

*sigh* I remember this ride when I was kid, it was quite the experience. The major difference was that everyone SHUT UP and enjoyed the ride. These days, the crowds are so rude they are more frightening than the ride itself. It's scary to see what has happened to the American public. NO respect at all.
This ride was so fun ! I went in 2010 and when we were in tht place in the beginning when the guy was talking and the room was moving..I was the loudest one screaming on the floor holdig other people's hands !

@gymnastics1248 You're welcome. I remember when I first went on the Haunted Mansion I was 6 and I was really scared in some parts. Ever since I found out how everything works I just don't worry. Whenever I see a part that scared me when I was little, now i just laugh and when my friends ask me how something in the mansion works I'm always there ready to explain. I hope you have a good time. You're lucky that you going soon. I haven't gone in almost a year (which is the longest I've been away)
I remember while my mother " parked" our stroller, I talked to one of the maids outside of the gates who was selling an invisible dog leash and she said " This is my invisible piggy! :)" And me, thinking she said pain, I said " This is my invisible agony and terror! Cute aint it? " She looked at me like O.O Then i realised she said piggy and i said " No, just kidding. Mines a goat :) " Then she smiled all normal but it was funny. XD
