Magic Kingdom Haunted Mansion Original Version

- This is not my video. I actually don't know whose it is or what year it is from. I ripped it off the "Extinct Attractions Club" DVD and knowing those guys they probably downloaded it off the internet.
Still, it's getting harder and harder to find good, clear videos of what the Florida Haunted Mansion looked like before its 2007 "Re-Haunting" refurbishment, so here it is. This is before Constance, before flying Leota, before the Stretch Room stereo effect, and before the ride was being run too fast. If I had to guess based on the evidence, I'd place this video as being shot between 1998 and 2001.
I also remember this version from when I was a kid, then I remember going back to Disney in 2007 I believe right after they revamped it and noticed how different it was, lots of references to the movie. Then I went back and we went back and 2013 and I swear even more changed. It's still one of my favorites, but I do prefer the original, it was scarier. The ride itself doesn't seem rushed to me, but the beginning where you first walk in and see the aging portrait is way too rushed. If you're in the back of a big crowd, you miss most if not all of it. They need to wait until everyone gets in before that starts, then go into the stretching room which is, IMO, the best part!
This version scared me SO MUCH as a little kid. I was probably 6 or 7 when I rode it and refused to get back on for years because the bride scared me so much, plus the pop up heads. I love the attraction now, and can appreciate this version much more also.
Same the bride is just terrifying.
Those pop up heads were hat box ghosts and scared the hell out of me! And I loved every minute of it! 20,000 leagues beneath the sea, snow white's scary adventures , and mr.toad's wild ride.
WDW in 1970's was scary dark ride heaven!

Jupiter9099 That was one thing the old haunted mansion there that was needed to be improved that the rehaunting actually fixed. The constant static interruption in the buggies.
I went on the wdw version for the first time in 2006, the audio is so screwed up and outdated that once we entered the endless hallway scene the speaker on our doombuggies said “shhcksfif listen”.
Yeah, if it cut out you had to wait for the next trigger along the track. It was a pain when the ride was stopped also as it cut out whatever part the dialogue was on, and could not resume until your buggy hit the next trigger.
I NOTICED THAT TOO LOL
The only complaint I have about the original is that the load area is VERY bare. With the old sinister 11 pictures on the walls now it looks a lot better.

I know there were no interactive queue or endless stairway (I went there in 1995 when neither were there) but weren't there eyes that went back into the wall before the endless hallway/candlelabra?

It's actually a raven, not a crow. It's making the same cawing noise as the crow, but it's a raven.

The ride now is actually is running at the pace it was running at just after the 07 refurb. You can time it, you're supposed to to be able to go through the Seance Circle and hear all of Leota's lines (should be about one minute)
Most of the audio in the corridor of doors has been removed. The spirits used to shout “let me out of here” but in a very eerie menacing way. It may be scary but it didn’t really work for the story. The ghosts are shy of you and they eventually decide to have a party with you. But these spirits in the original, seemed doomed in hell, begging us to help them move on. It just didn’t work if you think about the overall story. The ghost in the coffin works because his voice is excited. He wants someone to help him out because he is deeply fascinated with the living. Not in pain like the others. That’s why the audio track was most likely removed. Or it was just to sinister for children. But I believe the latter.
The Corridor of Doors is meant to be scary though. It's the climax of the ride where the ghosts are awakened by your presence and are growing restless because of it. They want you to join them, but they are giving trouble getting to you. It's the point where the mansion feels like a deadly threat and anything could happen you. It's not until after Madame Leota summons and calms them down that they become friendly, wanting to party with you, wanting you to join them.

I thought the corridor of doors used to have voices . My little kid brain corrupted my memory of the original ride so much I thought those cries of the damned were part of it
I'm surprised I was a witness to history, being 6 in 2006, I just got to see this version and I loved it! Especially in the Graveyard portion.

I have seen this version or another like it on Myspacew a few years ago. The nightvision was so good, it was like having the emergency lights on.
I rode this when i was a kid and the only part i remember was the bit where you see the ghosts in the cart with you in the mirror, kinda sad i don't remember anything else but i was scared of rides like these when i was younger so i probably was closing my eyes through most of it lol

I went to Disney world in 2005 and this was my favorite ride. it’s saddens me that they changed it.
I really like the portrait hallway. I like how its so different. what I don't like about the old version is the giant spiders and the bride. I mean this bride in this video is pretty cool but the new one seems more like an actual ghost than this
The bride featured in this video was really tacky IMO, but there was a previous version from the 80s/early 90s that looked awesome and VERY ghost-like.
Imo anything is better than obviously CGI rendered and projected Constance
The staring portraits were replaced by portraits that changed from lighting, but you can still find the portraits just before you board, although they don’t stare.
I like that they have wind blowing the bride’s veil, makes it slightly creepier; I don’t know why, it just does!

Is the ghost screaming "let me outta here" the one inside the coffin?

If we're basing this off Yesterworld's video about the history of this attraction, this video is probably from sometime around late 80s early 90s since the popup ghosts in the graveyard was silenced somtime in the 80s. I think the popup men in the attic got that attire around the 90s or so. Check out Yesterworld's video on the history of this attraction. It's an interesting watch
Graveyard audio was changed in 1979 or 1980. Attic pops were redressed in 1997. I wrote a whole book on this ride, check it out: a.co/d/7zrPsd8
Okay these "original videos" I keep finding are starting to bug me.
They all show the haunted mansion as a buggy ride.
It wasn't originally though.
When it first came out, it was a complete walk-through attraction, and the ghost host wasn't just a voice in the speakers.
It was a floating lantern leading you through the mansion.
Where's that version?
I went to Disney World for the first time in 1975 and the Haunted Mansion was not a walk-through. It has always been a ride.
It was originally proposed as a walk-through but was never built that way. Both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom have always been omnimovers

@@spiceweasel8966 yes they do. They built the facade for the original Haunted Mansion and hung billboards and handed out flyers in 1961 but it didn't open until 1969.

Yeah I remember this version as well, way back in the 90s. Man that bride was scary AF. Haven't been to Disney again (yet).
That was the time I went to WDW/Magic Kingdom,too..Your ghostly host..Paul Frees..your ghost host (graciously serving up "hot & cold running chills" since 1986 himself since death in the mansions.)

I miss the beating heart bride. She took up so much more room in the attack and looked more real. I love the story of Constance, but the projection effect has never looked believable on her. I always hope that one day they will fix her and make her look more like the original bride

I don't think it was a light but rather night vision/infrared. Just a hunch because else you'd have probably heard the announcement over the PA to shut it off.

The ride was sped up in 2007 but now it's back to the normal speed.
Madame leota looks like Louise Fletcher
But sounds like Elanor Audley since thaT'S WHO dubbed the voice, but looks like namesake Leota Toomb s(Her REAL name!), who also inspired, and voiced, Little Leota.
This was the ride that got somebody dead by a heart attack
I’m not sure if it was this version... From what I’ve heard before they opened it some guy testing it had a heart attack, then they delayed opening and slimmed down the creepiness. But that’s only what I heard.

The ride in 1990 was a little different from this as well just to let all y'all know who didn't get to Disney by then.... the music in the graveyard is too low and so are the bust vocals

It's a night vision, infrared fill light that is being used. The infrared light is invisible to the human eye, but is picked up on camera

The first time I went on it was 2008 so I never saw this version. I’m glad because the screaming pop up ghosts in the attic PLUS graveyard scene pop up ghosts would be too much. I don’t even like the pop up ghosts period.

@@Foxxy999 no it's not those, because i saw a ride through in 2003 which is when it seems they added them and the music was still easily heard. a little bit after the 2007 re-haunting , the music in the load are got really quiet.
Loved this video and loved this ride at Disney World loved the hallways .

I live near Anaheim, with the imho inferior "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"/"How the Grinch Stole Christmas"like layover. five or so years, my late mom on our way back, guessed the HMH was too scary..yeah, mother, but not the way YOU think.. 😂(Yeah, Grinch never had Tim Burton../funny, Ron Howard was behind Grinch, considering he was on the 1969 story and song LP) You'' love THIS creepy playlist fact...a HM video I was watching placed after this on the list after endings leads right back to THIS, several videos PREVIOUS!
