Will it mold? - Whisky & Cigar Time Lapse [8K]
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 мар 2022
- In this video, I show you what happens to a glass of whisky if you leave them in a glass of water for a month days.
Also, as cigars pair well with whiskeys I added a couple of cigar time lapses to the video.

Fun fact: Roughly 2% of whisky evaporates through the barrels each year. This is known as the angel's share.

Is this what you expected?
Not at all
But the music and watching the Whiskey evaporate is just amazing.
Thank you for the content 💖
Did you put it in chamber where there was no acces for bugs?
I expected more mold
@@fokit2240 Now I have no insects in my studio. Those times are over, it's a more controlled environment now

I agreed. I was a very nice setup.
That aesthetic is a big reason why I smoke cigars.

“Whelp, time to pop this bottle open, this whiskey ain’t gonna drink itself-“
@VoltDenatsu hey sometimes you have to give the whiskey time, he’s a slow drinker
Suggestion: do time lapse of the same thing but under different temperature and humidity conditions. Not necessarily this time lapse, just a general idea.
Great suggestion! I did that a couple of times.

@@PhotoOwl lol I got confused when I saw mozzarella
Cigar would last forever under proper humidity
Evaporate overnight in a warm environment, left with crystals
I've left a whiskey glass out for weeks. What's left at the bottom is actually quite aromatic, smells like oakwood.
a nice aged bourbon will smell sweet from all the corn in the mash
@@skyefox5796 I can't remember exactly what kind I had but it definitely wasn't cheap.
@@tommyvercetti7326 to be fair I think whiskey almost always smells great, it's just that bourbon's unique 75% corn mash always gets somewhat of a sweeter aroma. Especially brands that hone in on that sweetness like buffalo trace, woodford, four roses, etc.
@@skyefox5796 i left a glass with a little bit of wild turkey 101 left for about two weeks and it smelled like straight up caramel
It doesn't have to be weeks, it work overnight. When people are nosing whiskey this is what they're smelling once they get past the alcohol fumes. It's a good way to practice nosing as a novice
When alcohol evaporates over time...we call that the Angel's share.
Devil’s cut*
@@aaronrio4271 nah, thats what's soaked into the barrels...
@@aaronrio4271 yay! Devils cut. That why I leave extra glass on the table when I'm drinking
Only evaporation that occurs during distillation is called the Angel's share.
Angel’s are a bunch of drunks
I didn't expect it take a month to vaporize.
Depends on humidity, most of it is till water.
unless it's some barrel proof special, it's probably around just 40-45% alcohol so it would make sense that the alcohol would evaporate first and the water would take a bit longer. Also explains the mold since the sugars in the whiskey were able to mold in the water after the alcohol evaporated.
@@skyefox5796 Other way around, alcohol evaporates MUCH faster than water, the alcohol would have vaporized out of the solution, and then the water slowly followed. You got mold eventually while there was liquid because there was little to no alcohol left in what is basically just sugar water after. That's why edible ink uses alcohol, or flavoring extracts, it evaporates super quickly and leaves nothing behind
@@GiraffeFlavoredCondoms I just saw that as you made this reply lol, I watch a lot of vids like this at vampire hours. Gonna fix that real quick lmao.
It’s a flammable too and like gasoline it seems to be vaporising quick whilst giving off a more pungent smell
"shall we gather for whiskey and cigars tonight?" (couldn't resist sorry)
nice dishonored reference
"Indeed, I believe so."
"Never doubt it"
"Blow off, Choffer"
Damn, didn't expect to see a dishonored reference here
Well, alcohol and nicotine are anti-microbial by nature. The mold didn't form in the alcohol until after most of it had evaporated away.
@VoltDenatsu The whiskey was already %60 water, but ice cubes for sure sped up the process of getting the point of low alcohol content at which they could begin habitation within the liquid
@VoltDenatsu don't fully agree with your reasoning here (or at least the way you put it). Ethanol and water are fully miscible so I imagine there would be a very fine mixture of them, much finer than the comparatively enormous bacteria. On the other hand the concentration does matter, exactly why I do not know (yet)
There was no mold in the glass. That was crystals.

Ghost drank my whiskey again.
It broke my heart... What a waste of whisky and a cigar... 😭😭😭
🤪 I was surprised too when there was mold.. my guess is that all the alcohol ran out and gave the mold room to grow. Great video. 😊

That whiskey time lapse was neat.
That ghost enjoyed the cigar asap and took it's time with the whisky

2:50 The most beautiful sunset I've ever seen.
By day 17 or 18 you can see the liquid disappearing quicker. This isn't from evaporation (mostly). It's actually from the microbes inside the cup consuming the sugar and alcohol
What sugar?
@@grbadalamenti Whiskey isn't pure alcohol. Every alcoholic beverage has something added to make it edible/palatable.
Microbes don't consume alchohol, it's a waste product from yeast and is lethal to both it's producers and any additional microbes.
@@brokenlegs8431 not entirely true, yes a lot of microbes produce ethanol as waste but only if they are anaerobic or fermenting, but many microbes have the ability to biodegrade ethanol to CO2 and methane, especially aerobic microbes.

Would that mould be from the ice? I didn’t think bacteria grew in alcohol.
Pure alcool maybe but I believe alcool is made from "mold" 😁
(Sugar is great for it)
Or fermentation call it how you want 🤣
{Just finished watching! I believe in this case alcool was the first thing to evaporate ? }
@@LowkeyAirgunner Yes, alcool evaporates faster than water so I guess what was at the end was some slightly sweet water in which the mold managed to grow
@@erwanntourbier9157 Don't forget that dark alcohol's have Congeners...basically sediment.. the lovely things that supposedly give the hangovers. Ofc, i don't buy it, i can get a hangover from clear drinks as well.. Vodka, Gin, Rum.
@@erwanntourbier9157 the mold is probably feeding on more complex carbohydrates, not sugar. You are right about the alcohol evaporating quicker though.

Something tells me Mr. Photo knows his cigars and whiskey pretty well 🤔 lol
at least on a surface level, those 2 brands are more or less some everyone with a bit of proper upbringing knows about ;) romeo and juliet cigars have been amongst the most well known for 7 decades, and everyone know the cheap but good walkers. havent seen a johnny walker i wold call exspensive or high class, point me to it if you know one. but every young person can afford a johnny walker black label. but knowing how to enjoy it are a rare thing to come across.
my Grandfather have dragged me through the etiquette regarding spirits, i have rarely seen it followed.
but a nice cheap evening for whiskey but the cigar there would be the winner for the evening, those are some nice but not as cheap cigars unless you find a good deal. at least here.
By about day 22 or 23, the top left side of the glass sort of looks like clouds in front of a night sky (because of the lighting I think)
This is absolutely mesmerizing.
Very relaxing dude... 😄🙌
Looks good!
Ah ha! This was my hypothesis. I don't know if I would have guessed it, if I didn't really give it some thought. Can't gasoline go bad or mold or something strange?
The alcohol evaporated more quickly than the water, allowing it to mold once completely gone.

Glad to see my prediction was correct or at least partially correct.
Probably my favorite cigar
You couldve used some evan williams and a brick house but you went for the good stuff! Also this video make me want a cigar and whiskey 😩
I kinda feel I cheaped out on the whisky, I wish I went with blue label (if JD at all) or some better stuff. But then again, less people would recognise the brand and because of that less people would watch the video.
We really out here calling Johnnie Walker good? There's actual good booze out there.

To be pedantic: Since Johnnie Walker is of Scottish origin, it’s actually whisky, not whiskey.

In days 18-21, the mold floating on top started...spinning? What do you suppose that was about? Was that when the civilization of mold intelligences realized that their universe was about to end and started panicking?
What a pour!
That glass right there had the happiest mold colony in the entire world 😂
This has reawakened a dark desire for cigars, I don't think this is a good development!
Unless those ice cubes were made from sterlised water, that mold was most certainly caused by the impurity of the ice cubes. Pity you deemed it necessary to add them. It also probably extended the whole experiment by at least a week. But still very cool to watch. 👍👍👍
The air is filled with fungal spores. That's always the most likely source. The ice cubes probably changed nothing.

The character development though
This almost made me cry 😭
In the wooden sailing ship days they added rum to the ship's water supply specifically to keep stuff from growing in it.
This has definitely been a video!!! Damn! Someone for sure recommends this to someone else!
I see many people talking about the alcohol evaporation, so for those who are curious: alcohol evaporates more easily than water due to the number of hydrogen bonds formed between each molecule. Water can form 4 H bonds, whereas alcohol can only form 3. This weaker cohesive force means that alcohol evaporates more readily than water. Anyone that has ever used isopropyl rubbing alcohol on a cut, or to clean a surface and got it on their hand may have noticed that it felt very cold. This is an extension of its evaporative properties because as a liquid evaporates it takes heat energy with it, making it apear cold to the touch.

in the end it looks like perfect sunset
Makes sense. Ethanol is very volatile, so it would continuously evaporate. It is also a powerful biocide, so mold wouldn’t grow if there is a high concentration. Only after most of the ethanol has evaporated, when the alcohol content has become low and only water and the whisky solids remain, does anything grow in the glass.
Left whiskey on a windowsill for 24 hours, water had evaporated and left a syrup that smelled amazing since the ethanol was gone
This video gave me nostalgia
