I think I found the solution (Android mobile app): Go to settings - tap Notifications - Select "Following and Followers" - scroll down til you find "Account suggestions" and choose "Off". Hope this works, for all of us!

To reduce those suggestions, try clearing your search history and activity. Also, tap 'Not Interested' on suggested accounts, and it should help! 😊
