Mosin round went through for sure, but the .308 didn't. Now on the other hand, if you handloaded some .308 with M2AP bullets pulled from old .30-06 ammo, THAT woulda smoked that armor!!
Had this same plate carrier, dam thing was stolen out of my rig when broken into at the hospital. Saved up for 3 months to buy it, was an awesome carrier and I absolutely loved it. Most comfortable carrier I've ever worn, I've been wearing body armor for 10+ years in my profession, by far the skeletal was worth every penny. Was hoping work would replace it, being I purchased for my job and they just laughed and said wear work provided armor. Feels like it's from the 1980s what they supply
The 7.62x54R is a wicked round. I posted about it being the longest serving military round ever a couple of days ago. 131 years and still in service in the nastiest conflicts on Earth.
Yeah but everything with kinetic energy has due with speed not weight… if you increase the weight it’s 2x the kinetic energy.. if it’s the same weight and you increase the speed it 4x kinetic energy.
I get the point of barrel length changes the ballistics when firing the same round, but a 308 has a flatter trajectory and a little more power on target! What about using the 54r round in the 308, seeing that a rifle chambered in 308 can chamber both rounds, then which round is better?
To defeat body armor with 5.7 you need particular ammo. Most of the commercially available ammo won't defeat armor. Look into vanguard outfitters. Round comes out of a handgun at approx 2600fps (and greater out of a longer barrel) vs the 1600-1800fps commonly available.
Thank you for doing the test but it would have been helpful to see the results from each round - which would have required inspection after each round. Also, if that's ceramic armor then the first rounds are weakening the plate so that the Mosin round had an unfair advantage. You almost need a fresh plate for each round. Yeah, expen$ive.
people are fools for under-estimating 7.62 x54r out of a Mosin oh, I have a Russian produced in 44 that was never issued, it is attacked driver and I love it and the 7.62 x54r with a 180 grain bullet is absolutely devastating love the video thanks

My idea to make a level 3 a better vest is those vests from china on wish, a few of those on the inside, with cushioning on the inside and have vest on outside outside. That way a lot of energy would get absorbed in the cheap woven fabric and vest and lastly cushioning like memory foam. It'd take some engineering and stitching and lots of work but someday may be worth it.

When ppl compare the .308 and 54r, they also need to realize that the Mosin's 29" barrel probably adds a few hundred extra ft/s of velocity.

That’s the only reason I watched. Is there a part 2?

Not yet
243 probably will,270 will lol
Yeah, that'd be an interesting one to see for sure.
I'd bet the . 243 in a light grain like 55gr or 60 gr will smoke it. .270 might go through in 130gr.
