Last year General Motors debuted two beautiful new roadsters, the Pontiac Solstice and the Saturn Sky. Both cars received praise for their inspired design, but for many, the hard lines and chiseled angles of the Sky were thoroughly captivating. But beauty isn't everything. A car like the Sky needs to drive as well as it looks, and that's where the Redline comes in. General Motors has taken the well-behaved Sky and injected it with some serious performance.
I still want one of these.
niceprince they're getting cheap now, just go get one. Do it man, I got an 09 solstice base, and it's so fun. These cars turn heads, especial with those that aren't car fans. You'll constantly get "what is that? That's a nice ride" even though that part is trivial it's still nice.
I have the Pontiac solstice - luv it!!! putting the top up/down on these cars is so easy, you don’t need all those electronics to break down and add weigh. The canvas material is gorgeous! The top comes down low which looks like you have limited visibility but you can actually see perfectly and it’s quite cozy in there. Just an awesome car to drive super comfortable all the stick shift/ clutch smooth and feels amazing. Nowadays you can get these cars for a song and there’s such a great deal and the joy to own.
The Sky turbo has about 30 more whp than the s2000 and a butt load more tq. I think you're confused.
love the 2 humps behind the seats, so carrera gt like. niceeee
Thats all fine and dandy but is gonna crap out at 80,000 miles like other Saturns?
The base model yes, the turbo charged version is in the 5's.
You think a used sky with 63,000 miles for $15000 would be a good idea? Are they reliable?
Yes
I have owned mine for 7 plus years . Had the GMPP performance update done . Have over 70,000 miles . Still lots of smiles & miles going strong .
cool car and cool music
@kullprit agreed! I think the Saturn version looks better. Who would have thought?? A good looking Saturn.
I dont know why GM decided to keep Buick over Saturn or Pontiac
Buick sells well in China that's primarily why it survived the house cleaning when GM went bust.
@goldenglove25 gm=pontiac+saturn?
if this saturn had a bigger trunk I believe it would have got more interest.
@gixxer4lyfe the Honda s2k is $32,500 US new. I have personally owned both of these cars and the s2000 is not a piece of junk as you have described. The s2000 is short on torque though. BTW I have also had a GSXR600 and yeah that really is the way to go for performance but this wasn't a video on bikes or a bike vs convertible debate.
We own a solstice gxp. The LNF motor is very reliable even after being driven hard, the rest of the car... not so much. The engineers made sure to spend most of their R/D on the engine, not on the car.
@sammy2taylor
I'll admit there are some issues with the car, but none of the one's you posted are correct.
Saturn is actually pretty great. there biggest downfall? they advertised them as a safe "soccer mom" kind of car, but even a soccer mom doesnt want that badge. buick should have gone for sure, pontiac made some dump too, but they could have tried a little harder on Saturn.
Saturn is done!
Sky=0-60 in 5.3
S2k=6-60 in 6.2
not much of a race according to the specs
my favorite roadster, other than high end exotics i would not pick any other roadster over this one, jup talking bout (s2k). still find it rather weird that the (09)cobalt ss is faster than the rwd counterparts with same engine and i believe transmission.
my dad used to work for Saturn
@goldenglove25 how does gm steal from it's own company?
you act like you can just throw on a turbo and make 1900hp, It takes thousands and thousands of dollars to do that, you have to rebuld the motor completely, custom made trans, axles, diffs and you can make over 1000hp with a Zr1 with everything stock!!
it doesn't have a top speed of 141 i went 161 yesterday with my friends new one
i dont usally like cars like these. but i kinda like this car.
@timtime88 old people LOVE Buick!!!
R.I.P. Pontiac+Saturn
I want one
@cielhigh My mom worked for saturn up until they closed and she talked about how they had the Sky in there shop all the time with turbo failures mechanical problems and several different electrical issues
You would still be better off with the ZR1 becuase it was designed for that a supra was never designed for that much hp, and you cant compare a beater 93 supra to a 2010 Zr1 the corvette has been around for over 51 years theres a reason why they stoped making the supra
Dont know where you guys are finding s2k for 50k but around here the lowest is 11k and highest is 32k for the most recent. You gotta be really gullible to believe that they are that expensive.....
lol GM has fewer recalls in the last 5 years then both honda and toyota... it isn't the 80's or 90's anymore domestics are more reliable then ever and finally have passion behind the big 3 again
@timtime88 because Buick is one of the biggest brands in China.
@timtime88 because Buick is big in Asia.
the funny thing is...u put a turbo in the Mazda RX8 it would kick the shit out of the sky and solstice...
not bad for a saturn!
Am I the only one who sees bits of Opel?!
he said 0-60 in 5 an d a half sec that is not 5.3 it is 5.5 and the s2000 does 0-60 in 5.6 and it NORMALLY ASPIRATED
UGH THAT CAR IS SO SEXY!!
the Saturn Sky's acceleration sucks tho, and lookwise it's a Solstice wannabe
I mean don't get me wrong it's a nice looking car, but it's just not quick enough. It takes over 7 seconds to get from 0-60mph
TopGear likes it =P
There's more to a car than hp and tq figures and how fast it goes in a straight line. The S2000 is 10x the car than a Sky/ solstice.
ehh, not sure i would want to drive a saturn though.
@timtime88 i'm also confused
thats a 2010 car dummy supra starting at 1993 thats really good n plus the corvette zr1 is over 170 g's i rather buy a 15 g supra and spend 155 g on fixing it up than buy a zr1
I was given one of these cars it sat in my driveway for one month I started it up and get started immediately but that wasn't the problem at 90,000 miles the ECu failed Buy German engineering and save yourself problems
It is European stupid. It's opel platform
+Will Todaro I'm a VW fanboy. Had them all my life. Have a 2010 Audi S5 right now. My S5 is perfection....not a problem in 90,000 miles so far, but I've had my fair share of problems over the years with my beloved German vehicles.
Every Dodge I've owned has been flawlessly reliable. My mom's Chevy HHR is still purring along with 175,000 miles.
These days it comes down to luck, really. But in a German car, you'll be paying your left testicle if it needs repair. Whereas in an American or Japanese vehicle you wouldn't even have to dip into savings. A $300 repair on a Chevy or Toyota is an easy grand on a Volkswagen...let alone A BMW or Mercedes.
I may be selling my S5, and I'm really looking hard at these Sky Redlines and MR2 Spyders. It'll be a nice change to replace the water pump without lubing up my own undercarriage first.
So let me get this straight you were GIVEN this car and then you let it sit for an entire month and then you're surprised it crapped out on you? No one just gives one of these cars away unless there is something wrong with them. Especially not 2 years ago when they were worth more.
Who the hell cares what the top speed is? Do you live on the autobahn? I could care less if my car could go past 100, since I never drive that fast.
well they were stupid for stopping the production of supras
No they were smart, the only people would buy them were kids and we know kids dont have money to buy a fast car
is putting the top down REALLY all that difficult? or are we North Americans just so lazy that we complain every time we have to get up?
Honda S2000 >
Better looking and more potential over the Sky/Solstice.
Old people are to blame =/
Yeah that requires sooo much work i mean you have to actually take off the top, poor thing, and the redline would rape a 2000 or miata which is a chicks car
The only "sexy" Saturn...too bad...
lmfao
way to go...way to steal a desingh from pontiac and yes RX8...
hahahahahahahaha 2.0 turbo and it makes 260hp???hahahahahaha the s2000 is 2.0 and it makes 237lol about torque i admit is has more..
I can't believe that this car has a review just call it a piece of shit lol
No comparison to the S2000 or the Miata. Before I bought my S2k I went to look at this thing and man no wonder GM cars are so shitty. This thing look like a car toy u buy at K-Mart. I drove it and it was a easy decision to buy the S2K. Who would want to spend 30grand for a car that would require for u to go out and change to top?? Another piece of GM crap.
japanese cars are the best ones out there for everything. u can fix a supra to 1900 hp. that'll shit on every other bullshit german or italian or even american car out there and its a cheap car.
Thats all fine and dandy but is gonna crap out at 80,000 miles like other Saturns?
You're cute. Driving a Saturn with 120k miles and still drives smooth.
+brandon watkins My buddy drove his little Saturn well over 200,000 miles. Hell, I still drive a 1983 Delorean with no issues.
Just take care of your vehicle and it'll take care of you.
My neighbor has a SL1 or SL2 it from the early 90s with over 200k miles on it. It prompted me to look into the brand again. I bought a Saturn Outlook XE for the family. I then purchased 2 Saturn Skys, (His & Hers) for my Wife and I. She has the Redline automatic. I have the base model in a 5 speed. We like the 3 so much that we are now in the market for a Saturn Aura XR. We have not been disappointed with our purchases at all! Great running cars with very low maintenance.
