As a black teen during the 80’s I was pulled to these white British groups clearly inspired by soulful R&B, yet would bring this cool, laid back, elegant swag to the game. The Blow Monkeys, Swing Out Sister, ABC, and even David Bowie during that decade. Shit was just exceptional. Thanks for this post.

Still sounds great to this day. An all-time favourite. Long life to Dr. Robert and The Blow Monkeys and thanks for the good times spent listening and dancing to you.
It's about the AIDS crisis. "I'm like a boy amongst men/I'd like a permanent friend" could be taken as someone dealing with their homosexual feelings and wanting to be in love; Could also be about being a gay man watching your friends die. I had to listen a bit to make it out over all the voices, then realized it was this great song I had all but forgotten.
Met Dr Robert when he came into the music shop I was working in in the early 2000s. Needed his guitar fixed for an acoustic solo gig he was doing in town that night so we took care of the guitar for him and he put us on the guest list. He was a pretty humble but friendly and charismatic chap which made me happy since I bought this single when it came out and it's always when your musical heroes turn out to be nice folk.
Marvellous tune from my teens/twenty-somethings. The Brit pub/club scene was super special in the '80s... so many favourite bands & songs to choose from. What fantastic memories we have of our youth 🤩😎

35 years later, it's still interesting.
Dr Robert. 🖤
I wonder what the response would be if they played this on today's radio stations. I bet good money that it would be a hit
Plus songs like Long Hot Summer. Sheer class.
I was nineteen when this came out, brings back so many great memories, such a lovely song. I'm 48 now and i wish i could go back to those days.

Chris me too. Was the best 👍
💖Dr Robert💖
So stylish with a beautiful voice x
Sadly those days are gone, but look what they left us with, priceless memories and banging timeless tunes!.
Love the Sound of unforgettable Great Artists. Am 51 yrs younger dancing and jamming with the Ultimate Joy.
Thankyou for wonderful Jams.😇🙏🕊️💖😘🌟
Marvellous tune from my teens/twenty-somethings. The Brit pub/club scene was super special in the '80s... so many favourite bands & songs to choose from. What fantastic memories we have of our youth 🤩😎
I am now stuck in the middle of Coronavirus lockdown, yet still this song can make me happy. I was born in '75, so saw every minute of the 80's as a kid. They were the best years ❤
80's music style is timeless todays music is garbage
was born in the 60s,now 63 years old ,80s were the best decade ever,my son who is 24 wished he had been born in the 80s,loves listening to this decade.
Born in 69. Was a teen in the most fun and free time ever.
I feel like society and music peaked in the 80s
Real music! The arrangement, the rhythm, the singing, you just don't get this quality anymore, love this song 😎😎😎
What a song! So glad to have grown up in that wonderfull era
Wow memories! Used to love this song and play it over and over again.
I am digging this scene in June 2020 !!!! Love it 😍

Right there with you ptoyman! I was also that black teen drawn to these British artists, and their music is still played on repeat in my home, car, and office. Good music is good music.
Saw them last year. Closed my eyes and I was 17 again ❤😂❤
I was 14 when this song came out. Omg to think I would do my homework listening to this on the radio is mind blowing. Music was so great back then
I was 16
The radio airwaves were FILLED with this great music, we had this cool 2nd wave of British music that was so diverse and fun. I seriously feel sorry for our counterparts today. It all sounds the same and it all sounds awful.
I was 13 or 14 how time flies unfortunately if give 20 yrs of the END Of My Life just so I could go back AGAIN in a heartbeat
I'm here because this song been in my head for 20yrs.And just found out the name of the song on my xm radio station.

IT Is- it Was-and Always will be the era that dawned the age of first E-mails, AOL for me) learning to text and send them at the speed of light. It changed the way we did things, how we communicated and of course-- the "oh special " Social. Media. You had to Live in order to know it.
Thanks for Sharing .

My God that lead singer is so absolutely smooth, suave and what GORGEOUS vocals!
R R i was crushing on that voice and that he seemed to be digging that sister.
Behold Dr Robert.
You should find a picture of him without the makeup...he’s a handsome man.
@@juliebedford454 Definitely without the makeup. I just find him scary in this video.
We saw these supporting level 42 in cardiff in september 2018.........still brilliant even now!!
What a voice she has, never appreciated it's true strength back in my teen years, she is up there with the greatest, what an era of music the 80's produced, miss those years ❤
You never know how good something is until you lose it
Right now my car keys are really good...
Living the 80’s at the time not realising it would end!
@@jonathandarwin841 Aint that the truth
You never lose something good until you know you've lost it. C'mon you know.
Virginity nothwithstanding
I Love this Song!!! It is One of My Favorite Songs of All Time!!!! The Blow Monkeys are One of My Favorite Groups EVER.
I'm digging this scene from Japan now in 2019!!
I still remember when I first heard this song from the radio in 1986.
I was 13 yrs old then and fell in love with this super cool sound !! Good memories!!
It amazes me how musicians in the 80s could come together and decide let's do this kind of jazzy pop with a sprinkle of gospel and las vegas show. I can't think of any thing close coming from the past 20 years or so.
I Love reading the wonderful comments to wonderful 80s music
Clearly, Nick Rhodes was an inspiration. One of my fav songs from the BEST decade of music!
