Unfortunately we took these great young talented and energetic musicians for granted back then... 40(!) years later we realised this golden 80s era didn't last long
Quite a bit of that answer has to do with the ones buying records then compared to today. Easier to please the average younger listener today with minimal effort due to huge technological advancements. It was very common back in the day to see the band itself collectively write, produce and perform their tunes live - Dr Robert and band are a great example. Completely live, no tracks, no sequences and they sound phenomenal. Those times may com back because my thought is that it’s cyclical.
Because the present generation are so entitled and fragile, they won't last a minute in the 80s...as Einstein predicted "I fear the day when the technology overlaps with our humanity. The world will only have a generation of idiots." Albert Einstein
Ricardo Fernandez That would have been ace pal. I saw the Furs open for Iggy in 1980. Met Iggy backstage and Billy Rath of the Heartbreaker. Only things that make you glad to be older. Was only 16 at the time.
That really is a fantastic live performance of a really intricate song; really impressed with how good this band was (and probably still is even stripped of all the backing).
Dr Robert used to tour as a solo act in the early 2000s with his acoustic guitar. I saw him once and he did a great version of this tune, just him and guitar. Some talent!
Amazing song , brings back a lot of good memories, so cool, too bad this new generation will never have a chance to listen to this kind of amazing songs
In 1986 I was listening toThem and in 1988 I switched to Prince, in my opinion, they have a lot in common both in live performances and musical genres, and they are definitely all true musicians.
Hermosa canción de los anos 80"s !!!! Me encantaba enia adolecenxia y muchomas ahora que tengo 48 anos ! Que glamour !!' no creo que esa época maravillosa vuelva ! Fue muy hermoso haberla vivido! ! Desde Buenoa Aires Argentina , muchas gracias!
I think us of a curtain age miss the eighties better music, better people, better times. when 🍻 drinks were cheap. And you could actually have a laugh with women you never new. Sad times now. 😮
Love it, love it, love it! Great song, real musicians, full of character and about as cool/funky as it gets! Sigh, wish there was someone doing something like this now... oh yes, there is! The Monkeys are still playing, not quite as sexy but still brilliant.... go and see them!
Great performance, great band, great singer and great song. It's actually a response to Donna Summers comments about AIDS being Gods revenge on gay people. Remember when pop music was sophisticated and worked on multiple levels? Yeah me too.
Just heard this song for the first time on my hometown station 88.1, WWER, streaming. Great music with lots oof different song that Ive not heard. 💖💕💖💕
One of my very favorite songs of the 80s
Sending hope and love ❤️ to all who recognise this was a special time , peace to everyone 🙏.
The eighties were the best time with the best music.
In the 80s you had mixtapes with about 7 versions of the same song
Charisma like his is so rare. Truly a work of art among artists.
I'm diggin" it in 2024. Great music.
One of the greatest examples of Blue-eyed Brit Soul there ever was.
This is awesome musicianship!! Not easy pulling these arrangements off live from the record...very impressive
man - I had no idea how good these boys were live - respect !!
Immense respect. They weren’t some flavor of the month. I’m really glad to see they’re the real deal. Very cool stuff.
2022, I'm still down with the Blow Monkeys!!!
The only band I've seen live twice.
Love me some monkeys
Dr. roberts was pure charisma on stage and in the band who carried them far beyond their limits. Miss them a lot! :o)
The Wonderful Steve Sidelnyk on percussion, Wonderful, Thanks for sharing

Yes they sound so good just simple no fancy gadgets to sound good original sound system
The video to this song was so awesome!!! Great band!! That bass line!!!
thanks :-) On the original recording it was done on a drum machine called SP-12. Even after all these years I can still sing it.
100% SICKENING DIVINE BASSLINE
Why don‘t we have bands like this anymore today?

Fabulous brings moments of my life
We still do, The Lemon Twigs are a 2010s and 2020s band similar to The Blow Monkeys.
A mix of Style Counsel, Simply Red, and George Michael
Don't see the comparison, great in their own right
