Joel Wallenius - I wonder if there wasn't another possible reason for that, such as the possibility that some people who would be labeled "religious" (maybe even Arsenio himself) may consider that third verse a mis-characterization of some Christian church worship practices? Personally, I've always felt this song would have been better if the words matched the mood of the music. They seem to be at odds with each other, but that's just me. Still love this song.

When I was 12 years old I was with my BF at Olive Garden eating with my family one night , There was a sound waves across the hwy, me and my and buddy snuck out the restaurant and walked to the sound waves store and bought the Crash test dummies tape. that was around 1993 I still have that same tape.
    Cool memory.

Me too! I was already in my 20’s when this song came out. It’s a very kind and sweet song that speaks for kids who know they’re different and trying to find their way.
