Thanks man it worked! Also for anyone having trouble pushing down far enough with the screw drivers I got the latch to close just using a 5mm allen key
Glad to help! and Brilliant! I never thought of that
Wow imma try that right now
@jarryd you're a lifesaver worked for me. Btw long term what issue would this be? Not enough WD-40? Or what part would need replacement?
Every time I have to shut the hood again on my 2002 Toyota Corolla I re-watch this video since I somehow forget :) Thank you so much for making this.
3:43 is when the fix starts. Fixed my 1996 Corolla DX.
Kid cudi helping ppl. Respect!😎
Man you saved my ass on this one. I went to change my air filter this morning before dropping my car off for an oil change. Went through the steps you showed and found that the latch was working fine, but the hood still wasn’t shutting completely, as if something was preventing it from going down all the way. Then I looked over and saw that the protective cover for my battery was off. 🤦♂️ Thanks dude!
No worries! Glad I could help! The same thing happens to me all the time and it turns out to be a cap to something I took off under the hood😅
It’s that time of year where my latch freezes and does this, so here I am again. Thanks as always
Dude!!! You da man! Had my hood fixed in about 2 minutes after watching this. Can’t thank you enough for posting!
No problem! Happy you got it fixed quick!
Thank you very much. I just fixed our much beloved 1999 Toyota Camry. Our of 10 others on youtube you were the one and only solution!
Mr Jackson THANK YOU! For the last few years my hood [2004 Matrixx] would not latch shut if it was under 50° F. I did as per your instructions, perfection, Thanks, Kris M
Thank goodness for guys like you. My hood had problems where it would close but not latch and lock like it used to. Used your advice and scoured off a lot of rust build up and debris along the hook and latch. And it closes and locks in place now.
Thanks worked a treat. Not all heros wear capes.
100% facts! Thank you man!
Thanks so much. I watched other videos with no success on the proposed solution. Your solution took me two minutes to fix it!
THank you for the video , I have to fix mine now. (Fixed it, thanks for this video, I do not have to spend much hour sorting which one is not working, save time.) A little more help to make it more smooth, I used oil before I push down with screwdriver. I put the oil in that clutch so, it became smooth and I push it with screwdriver and now it works perfectly fine.
Happy to help! Great tip. I need to pin this so others can see
I had the same problem. I followed your advice and it worked. Many thanks...
Happy it helped!

I didn't get the pin pushed all the way down but it still worked for some reason. Thank you!!!
I guess it’s a common problem with the Toyota Corolla 2005, I have the same issue with it, every time I open the hood.
thanks
This worked, DW-40 helped the process. Thanks so much!!!
this video helped me fix my hood! turns out the lock needed wd-40
Happy you got that fixed!
I should've used some wd-40. I've been seeing that fixes the problem fast!
Thank u so much for video, my hood on 2003 corolla closed successfully 🙏
Thanks man! It actually worked for me!! 2006 Toyota corolla
Happy to help! I was freaking out when it didn't shut for me, so I wanted to help out anyone with the same issue! Make sure to view my other videos as well!

Thank you.
Perfect solution. Worked like a champ the first time! Thank you so much!
Hey Larry will you please help me to understand this correctly, so all you do is use something like a screwdriver to push down through the latch/lock and then pull lever to pop the hood and then it should be able to lock into place?
thanks bro it worked !
Happy it worked for you!
Great video and it taught me a little more about my car, but I think the cable is shot, so at least I can describe what I think the problem is to my mechanic.
Naomi did this work for you ?
@@freeytyee4815 No, for one thing it was impossible for me to put the leverage on the toggle to push it down. I'm going to bring it to the shop.
THANK YOU SO MUCH IT WORKED FOR ME!!!
hey thanks for the tutorial. I tried what u have said. but the problem in my car was the frame holding the latch mechanism bent down so hood latch couldn't close properly. I went to mechanic nd he fixed it nd charge $45. I did not know the problem otherwise i could do it my self.
Dang, I'm happy you got it fixed though
Thanks so much for posting, especially about the gloves, LOL
Those gloves really help, back when I was younger I never wore them, but now I do everytime I have something to fix
Thanks

@@jarrydjackson361
But, didn't work on my car!!!
@@eduardoguzman2282 Interesting. If it didn't work it might be a more serious problem that needs repair and replacement. What's wrong with it?
@@jarrydjackson361
What happened is that my car battery was stolen and I think they broke or damaged the latch hood.
@@eduardoguzman2282 That sucks. If they forced their way into the engine bay it could definitely do some damage
it worked, thanks
Nice, happy to help
Spray some pb blaster on it…saturate it and let it sit for about 5 mins
Spray some penetrating oil on that latch and springs let it sit for a couple of hours then lubricate with some 3 in 1 oil and you won't need those screw drivers. Just need to get the rust out of there the latch looks to dry and corroded.
This is exactly what my hood is doing, thanks! But what is the root cause / long term solution? Does it just needs to be greased somewhere?
I the whole cord needs to be replaced. it'll degrade with time.
Thank you bro
No problem!
Thanks man
It worked!
Happy to help!
Im going in boys, hope ot works.
Update: it didn't work for me even though the lock mechanism works.
Time to check the cord now.
Dang, I wish it could've been a simple repair. I hope you got that cord fixed up!
Thx Bro!!
No worries! Happy to help
Do it work for 06 Lexus
crackheads messed up my latch and cable stealing my battery. i gotta see if this helps to get it to stay closed. thanks!
Man, I hope you get that taken care of.
If they messed up the latch or cable, that might be a job for a mechanic
What happens if you try everything you said but it won't lock into position?
If that's the case, the cable might be so worn, it needs a new one
@@jarrydjackson361 Appreciate you bro 🙏
@@kumeshendanarrah480 No worries! Let us know how it goes
@@kumeshendanarrah480 Wait, I just thought about this. If the lock isn't going into position, it could be rust or corrosion on the actual gear mechanism. Either way, it sounds like it might need some replacement
@@jarrydjackson361 Yeah , I felt as if replacement was the best option and it was corrosion bro on the old part I mean it's a 20 year old car something had to go lol
Just pull the hood latch from inside car to reset hinge.
Hey just wanted to let you know, I didn’t get the latch to actually lock. But attempting to I think made it looser? Anyways I shut my hood normally once I gave up and it closed right away.
Thanks for the video brotha.
Happy to help! It was stressful when I tried to figure it out, so I was like I need to make a video
This does not work on mine cause of the rust on the inside latch macanisme . Ultimately you have to get rid of the rust that is causing the problem get rid of the rust problem solved .
Will you be able to clean it multiple times? Or is it better to get it replaced on the long run?
I see your Corolla also chooses not to wear hubcaps.
So basically we're just resetting the hood latch is that what we're doing.... So then after you reset it it remembered how to do it and it's ready to go.. 🤷🏽♂️
Yes, this option is a quick fix. I'd recommend getting the latch cable system looked at by a mechanic if you want it to operate as normal
Bout to try this high as fuck
Did it work?
@@jarrydjackson361 nah bro the shit hood is like there was a little earthquake or something story is the shit needed some fat metal to let the latch reach the lock the lock was (here)while then latch was( here) apart go the junk yard they can help for 100 or more less that wat they charged me
This shit happened to me yesterday and now the right side of my car just came off completely
Dang
I don't think I can help you on that part, but I hope it gets fixed soon
15 second fix spray wd40
M
M? What does that mean?
Mine didn’t work but thanks anyways
Ok ay I’m gonna try that out
Thanks! Worked for me.
Happy to help!
