Had a KitchenAid from the 80's for 25 years. The rack coating failed in spots but the washer was still working like a champ with its sturdy Hobart motor. Replaced it with a standard Whirlpool model ten years ago. It still cleans very well and without ever having had a service call, so far. K.I.S.S. REALLY ENJOY your videos, btw. Love your style and presentation. Keep them coming.

Kitchen Aid wash motor is of bad quality compared to the sturdy Bosch. I bought Kitchen aid dishwasher KDFE104DSS2. While it performed incredibly well, it broke down after 4 years and will cost more to repair. It also caused damage to my kitchen floor. I would not recommend Kitchen Aid to anyone. To my experience, I had a Bosch in my previous home and that thing is a beast. Bosch 300 or 500(not available due to high demand) are the best. Please DO NOT buy Bosch 800 (their new crystal drying method is a health hazard in the making due to the zeolite crystals in there). Zeolite is not all that great to be used at home(only meant for industrial use)

You might want to also talk about filtration. Kitchenaid, on some models has no filter for the end user to clean or replace. It has an innovative pump system which utilizes a mesh filter to separate soils from the water. Not so good if a large particle tears the filter but something to tell about I think.

Excellent and timely video! Yours are the most informative I've found!
I've been studying your videos for the past several months, Bosch vs. KitchenAid. Been going back and forth. Was so close to buying the KDTM804 because of the better gliding tracks. Do you think the KDTM604 tracks are almost as durable?
Thank you very much. Wish you had a store near me.

To me it's hard to justify the price jump to the 804. No slight on the 804, it's just quite a jump to get there and the 604 is already so feature rich.

How about LONGEVITY ? That is what matters to me. Another Whirlpool brand?

    • @YaleAppliance1
      @YaleAppliance1  2 года назад +1

Complicated. Normally when someone says that they mean how long will it last in my space without service. Service is going to needed for any dishwasher at any given point. It can happen in 6 days, 6 months, or 6 years. It doesn't mean it's not a good machine and give you plenty of good years, but appliances are not built for longevity nowadays... they are built for convenience. And convenience comes with a price... in the form of longevity. An average life expectancy for a dishwasher is about 7-10 years no matter who you buy and how much you spend on it. Miele probably makes the best machine on the market in terms of build quality because they own almost the entire process in house and still, I'd be hesitant to tell anyone their machine will last longer than 10 years.

They're so quiet because they have weak water jets and no soft food disposers.. The side vents destroy cabinetry. Whirlpool (the manufacturers of KitchenAid dishwashers) will do nothing about this.

I have a Kitchen Aid DW that is now involved in a Class Action suit. The plastic components dry out and break. This includes the rack wheels that fall off and the upper rack ball bearing fall out enabling the rack to fall down. So I am not understanding this review. Look up the things I have posted here.

That is common with Whirlpool dishwashers. We had a Whirlpool Gold dishwasher from 2006 that had the same problem. KitchenAid dishwashers have been made by Whirlpool for over a decade now. They used to be manufactured by Hobart.

We bought the model that hold cups and glasses on the top rack and VERY sorry we did. It does a terrible job with cups used for tea and milk. It doesn't clean them and we resorted to putting them on the second rack, which does a much better job. Also we put all out knifes on the top rack and they look horrible with some kind of staining that is almost impossible to wash off by hand. They were always fine in our replaced Maytag. The knife blades also got the staining in the basket, but NOT as badly as the top rack. We are using the longest cycle, rinse aid, dry feature and detergent in the prewash section. The top rack spray arms are too weak to really clean anything. I wish we bought the Bosch instead. I'm going to call Kitchen Aid and ask if we can return it for a refund.

I would not be able to recommend a model specifically. What I can tell you is there is usually a small basin on the inside of dishwashers that heats water (roughly 130-160 degrees depending on the model/cycle/etc) but I am not sure how effective that would be if its hooked up to a cold water feed. I would assume not very.

2 huge elephants in the room in this video are that
    1. food is constantly getting stuck in the water jet systems and the water pressure is weak (adding to the quietness of the machine). Not only do you have to thoroughly clean the dishes before you use the Kitchenaid, you have to remove the arms and physically clean them out after each wash (this is after having thoroughly cleaned the dishes, which is a huge pain and time consumer. Notice how he didn't show any dirty plates being loaded and cleaned? Cleaning the bottom arms are a pain but they do at least remove from the central turner. The top arms are all part of one piece. It's a crap shoot whether or not the food will come out of those. We didn't have the 3rd wrack system, so we had to use the basket for tableware. Our normal sized knives would block the arms from turning, so we had to load all of them on the far end of the basket.
    2. It vents on the side and will warp and destroy your cabinets, which it has done to ours. Still trying to figure out how to proceed with this one.
We now have a Siemens (fyi, Bosch, Siemens and Constructa are all the exact same machines, just with different branding) and this machine is a workhorse and does the job. We never have a problem with food getting stuck in the jets and the clearance is not a problem for normal size table ware. It also vents through the top. The Kitchenaid is quiet, much quieter than our Siemens and that's the only thing it's got going for it. Don't buy the Kitchenaid. It's a joke.

I remember when Kitchenaid dishwashers were the gold standard by which nothing else could ever compare. I do like the look of that new 3rd rack they came out with, particularly being a small household that rarely uses the lower most rack. I never liked the racks in European dishwashers, they always seemed very cheap and inadequate to me; however, a look at least at the more recent Bosches would indicate they have improved on that shortcoming. The drying system they use seems rather unique.
