Ugh unfortunately true. After just 3 years of very light use, mine stopped cycling. First repair guy came out, poked around a bit and told me I’d have to get an official Samsung technician. At least he was honest. Samsung guy just swapped out the computer chip “brains” and I had to pay almost the full cost of a new appliance, another year of light use and the damn thing stops cycling again. I can get it working by re starting and opening / closing the door about 6 x till I trick it into completing the cycle.

I agree with most of your points. However, my kitchen is next to the living room in my small home. I love my super-quiet Bosch dishwasher. It is 20 years old. Looking back at what I paid for it, it works out to 40 dollars a year -- and it still works, so every year I own it, the cost per year goes down. I'm good with 40 bucks a year.

Bought an old style whirlpool washer and dryer back in 2004. Both lasted until last summer (2021). Repairs just weren't working anymore. For the washer, we upgraded to speed queen and love it to death! But for the dryer, I asked my husband to just go to a used appliance place and get the cheapest, oldest, working dryer they had. We got one that was about the same age as our old dryer but had recently had several parts replaced. It works perfectly. At the end of the day, I just need the clothes to be dry, and I didn't care about fancy technology.

I love ❤️ your videos. We bought LG products originally for the slate type color. BIG MISTAKE. The dishwasher lasted 3 years due to water pump failure and the range hood 2 years the motor went up. Thanks to your videos l learned about quality over aesthetics. Based on your videos we bought a 800 Bosch integrated panel dishwasher and painted the panel the same color of our cabinets . I love ❤️ the dishwasher . We also bought a Fotile wall mount range hood and a hood cover that we painted the same color as our cabinets and it’s powerful and sucks most of the smoke 💨 out of the air when cooking. I would suggest anyone looking to purchase new appliances to do research and look at your videos so that they will not buy inferior products that they have to repair or replace in a few years. Lke-for-like a gas dryer will usually dry a load in half the time of an electric dryer.
This is due to the fact they fire and provide maximum heat output instantly.
I searched across more than 10 different sources and they all state an advantage of gas is faster drying time.
It's likely you had a defective model with one or more failed solenoids which caused your long drying time.

Another thing is the more ‘bells and whistles’ the appliance has, the more likely to have some kind of service break down. Example: ice maker dispenser on the door of the refrigerator. Ask an appliance repairman what he repair the most. For the cost of ONE service call you can buy a small freestanding countertop ice maker that makes ice quickly and efficiently and keep its frozen and makes more when needed.

The secret to maintaining black stainless steel is to buy some microfiber towels from your automotive supply store. Do not wipe the surface with paper towels or regular towels. They can scratch the surface. I like the black stainless look much better then the sterile hospital look. Not very warm and inviting. With a little cleaning care you can maintain it's look.

The mechanic refused to fix our machine after we reached their limit. He said, “I won’t fix it anymore, get a new machine”. The 5+ fixes was at year 10. 😅 We got a new one recently, an LG. The old one was an LG too. Their washers are amazing. I highly recommend their machines. From what I heard the dryer has a 5 star rating on energy. 😮 Very Impressive.

Yeah, the more complicated the machine the more that can go wrong with it and the more expensive it'll be to fix. Buy less expensive but QUALITY products. Or buy brand name used, basic model reconditioned appliances. Or last years models that are new. Or dent and ding stuff. There's plenty of good used stuff out there. Know your brands and get a warranty! Unless you can find it new for a good price. 👍

Another owner of the same model on Amazon updates his enthusiastic review on a regular basis. He felt his machine wasn't drying as well as it should and, being handy, removed the cabinet and vacuumed it out-it was pretty linty. I'm not sure about this video.
First, dual fuel is great. Nothing beats the accuracy of an electric oven and I would not place an induction cooktop on anything that can get that hot. I don't care if it's Miele or not. You are asking for problems. In my opinion, for a 30-inch range with an electric oven and gas cooktop is still the best. A lot of people do not have induction-ready cookware. And remember, if you have a non-stick pan that's induction capable, I guarantee that you'll be throwing it away in a year. I have induction and gas. I never use induction with non-stick. It just destroys it.
Secondly, I couldn't live without my steam oven. From steaming eggs to roasting chicken with 30% steam. There's no dryness happening here. In fact, I use my steam oven for just about everything. Even making yoghurt. Everything comes out perfect. When it comes to fish, it knocks it out of the park. I barely use my standard electric wall oven anymore.
I will agree that black stainless and downdrafts are the worst. Actually, only to be eclipsed by drawer microwaves and pot fillers.
And nice choice of having The Galley sink and faucet in your kitchen. Those things are simply excellent.

    • @shank296

I will never create a blog or video that everyone will agree with. Nor do I want to. Steam is awesome, but my GF does not want to use it. Gas Vs induction is a multi-level conversation. Induction is easier to vent, far more child safe, and easier to clean.
You do not have IAP and IAQ concerns with electricity as you do with gas. However, gas is more reliable in a full range and better in certain instances.

I have an older all gas (propane) 30" range and that thing is spot-on with oven temperature and I bake a lot. Not to mention it heats up very quickly, unlike a lot of electronic ovens I hear about. I'm not convinced dual fuel is the way to go at all.

The only thing is, because it is a condenser, it takes longer to dry the clothes but I now have it sussed and have speeded up drying time. I clean the lint out every time it is used and it does have a filter. My dishwasher is due for replacement (it is about 20 years old now) and although looking the worse for wear still does a good job but it won't last forever. I will probably get another of the same brand (Hotpoint - I'm in the UK). I don't mind if it makes a noise or not and wouldn't pay extra for a quieter machine.

My neighbor had a straight up ROOF exhaust for his Dryer vent on his new house. I was asked to take a look and told him that I knew what the problem was before looking, as I had seen the way his home was built. A dryer vent that goes up through the roof or even up through a wall and then across the attic is a huge mistake, and can rarely be fixed to pass code. Also, when it had rained for days they built the forms for his driveway and the hole was nothing but 8 inches deep of watery mud when they dumped in rough broken stone AND DID NOT COMPACT IT INTO THE MUD, just poured the concrete on top, and it has massive cracks in less than a year. Many of the new houses in Wood's Edge, Gr######e had these design/building flaws. The construction company paid Fees, (bribes), to the city to "Allow" the variations off of building codes, like my neighbor's 10 foot high fence, where the city building code says no more than 6 foot. What do you expect from a Corrupt City government that works closely with the expensive college that brings in students from all over the world? The local DA never presses charges for gun crimes because this makes those parents scared to send their children there, so even Lifetime constant offenders get NO gun charges, even when found with several guns, thousands of dollars, and many pounds of drugs, every year.

As a former appliance repair man I can agree with a lot of these points. On the topic of longevity, the culprit for the short lifespan is 100% cheap manufacturing AND "Green" regulations. Legislation that requires units to operate as certain voltages in order to be "Energy Efficient" just means we have to install computer boards onto each and every unit, and those boards are not made well and not meant to withstand a lot of the heat that certain ovens and driers will put off. So now we just fill up landfills with huge hunks of cheap metal because its cheaper to replace the whole thing than the boards and electronics to repair it. How's that for a "Green" solution... SMH.

In Germany every single oven or range I can think of has a hot air/ air frying feature. Nothing new, probably standard for the last 40 years or so.
About the combo washer, totally agree: Had one and it was the worst ever.
The downdraft vent is by far the most stupid design ever. It gets dirty easily and it always fights against physics. Hot air and steam rises. When we ordered our new kitchen ( which is fairly high end) the salesmen tried to convince me to buy a downdraft vent in combination WITH GAS BURNERS, even after I explained him how stupid the idea was. It even sucks the heat away from the pan or pot.
We went to another store where more common sense was present.

My mother has a washer and dryer combo that is as old as me. Has been working for over 30 years with no issue. These machines have been around for forever in other parts of the world, they work perfectly fine, if you know how to use them. Reminds me of split air conditioners, they have been common for decades outside of the US. I have hear some people here complaint here that they don't work as good as a central air unit, yet when I go to their house I only see 1 split unit in the living room, and they complaint that it doesn't cool or heat their bedroom upstairs. You are supposed to install 1 unit per room. No, it doesn't matter that they BTU is rated for the total amount of square feet your house has, that doesn't change the internal architecture of your house nor physics.

    "Downdraft vents reverse gravity"
They actually work against thermal dynamics. Heat rises within an atmosphere. Gravity plays a part, but in a vacuum, gravity would pull the smoke down. Reverse vents simply work against thermal dynamics by trying to take something that would normally rise, and forcing it to go the other way.

We had a washer-dryer combination in 1955. It took up a little more space than just a washer. It did a very good job of washing and drying because the drum was large enough. The appliance never gained favor because the stupid salesmen bad-mouthed it at every turn without evey having used one. More commission on two machines? My parents had it till 1978 when they moved away and the appliance was too old to travel. The current problem is that the drum needs to be bigger to work as a dryer and the manufacturers don't do what is necessary. It was great not to have to move heavy wet clothes. They need to improve the combo machines. They were great!

If any type of vent (down draft or over the range microwave) cannot capture and draw the air from the room, then the industry seriously needs to do some re-engineering. A vent should have to be directly over the stove to capture the air. That makes zero sense to me. I’m not a mechanical engineer (different type of engineer), but I’m sure they could come up with a better design.

Samsung waterwall dishwashers, or LG Linear drive compressors are both distsasters that they're trying to figure out still years later. If you don't get extended warranty you'll be left with a hefty repair bill. Manufacturers are overenginering and making appliances beyond gimmicky nowadays for little not no added benefit. I'm a service tech and most stuff I work on is less than 6 years old.

Well, I never heard of the vibration reduction technology in our washer but apparently it uses some type of ball bearings to help balance the load in the spin cycle. It was new technology but we got lucky; it works great. There are a few caveats, of course, like being aware of the load. If too small, the spin cycle has a hard time figuring it out. The same with an unequal load where items tend to be heavier on one side. What the washer does is spin up slowly. If it cannot balance the load, it slows down, does a few backwards spins to redistribute the load, then tries again. Mostly it works fine but sometimes if the conditions I mentioned already are in effect, this prolongs the spin cycle quite a bit. So, once in a while, it’s just a matter of physically redistributing the load manually to get it so it can balance properly. All in all, it’s pretty impressive. It will always prevent the machine from spinning out of control and causing undue vibrations. Oh, it’s a Samsung and we have had it in our four unit wood frame building over a dozen years now.

One huge advantage the Miele dishwasher is the fail safe leak system. Quietness is just a side note. As for a steam oven, I use it all the time. I think that we are in the waning days of gas appliances and in my next kitchen, an induction cooktop. In my kitchens it is always the trifecta of Sub Zero for refrigeration, Wolf for cooking and Miele for dishwashing and for the laundry probably Speed Queen next time around. For cooktops, always place against the wall, never on an island and have a good vent that vents to the exterior of the building and if over a certain CFM, you MUST have a make-up air system.

Certified Whirlpool Appliance tech here. Do not but their new front load washers which are under the name Whirilpool and Maytag or their new dishwasher which are under the names Whirlpool, Maytag, and Kitchenaid. Both of these units are junk.
The washers have had control board software issues since day one. Error codes constantly. The door seal is prone to ripping which causes leaks.
The dishwashers have an issue where the heating element seals wear away within the first year of owning the appliance causing leaking and floor damage.
Consumers do your research before buying. Do not complain about the appliance after you have bought it because "it looked nice." Don't want to hear it. The nicer it looks chances are the worse the function is.

Don’t use gas ovens, they are really inadequate in manufacturing and become very degraded internally with bugs, grease and the electronics still die.

As far as the cooktop, all pots/pans work on gas. Peppers roast on gas. Popcorn pops of gas. Stir fry works on gas. Gas works in a power outage. An oven with an air fryer is the biggest con in the history of kitchen products. All convection ovens can "air fry", because air fryers are simply miniature convection ovens with a catchy name. Nothing more, nothing less.

For brands, stay away from Samsung and LG for sure. They make good consumer electronics, but their appliances are horrendous. GE, Jenn-Air or Thermador if you can swing it. And yes, those down-draft vents are useless.

Thanks for the black stainless tip, I was considering one of those. I got a Samsung ceramic glass oven a year or so ago by a local store's "counselor" and it's my worst nightmare. I can't cook anything properly anymore. It's either too much heat or too little and the electronic panel is already messed up. I'm just about to go to a flea market and grab a coil model out of frustration, lol.

Hey, but the silver lining is that Samsung has absolutely abysmal customer service and warranty service.

Years ago we bought a super quiet dishwasher, that also means much less spray pressure and much longer run cycles. Also much harder for the tough dishes to get clean

I had a super quiet kitchen aid - didn't clean worth a darn, it was basically used to sanitize the dishes. It was a piece of junk. I regretted that purchase within two weeks. But, - too late.
I now have a super quiet bosch from a better appliance store. love it love it love it. (it has a coin sized light on the floor so we know it's running.) We've had it for three years now, and it cleans really well.

@@harmarize I have a Bosch 800 series too. Fantastic dishwasher. Only thing that doesn’t completely get clean is when I put small bowls on the third rack. But it’s designed for utensils, and those always get clean.

Just learned the hard way: DON'T buy LG Refrigerators. Had an LG with Linear Compressor feature just die on me after less than 5 years. Tried reset on main board but nothing. Repair would have cost over $600.Good thing my spare WHIRLPOOL in the garage which is on year 25 is still going strong.Went out looking for replacement and EVERY store I went to had over 70% floor models that were either LG or Samsung. Another customer comes in and I overhear him tell the salesperson his LG fridge also just quit after 3 years. Bought a GE French door model - had to wait over a month because of the chip shortage due to Covid. A coworker has a SAMSUNG that started acting up after 6 months- Ice maker freezes up and he has to defrost it with a heat gun once a month 🙄. They just don't make 'em like they used to 😌.

Black stainless. Looks nice but I always show people our nicked up floor model.
You need to look into what "black stainless" really is. It's not an "oxide" coating. It's a thin polymer coating, think of it like a lacquer. If it was an oxide coating like gun bluing, it could be retouched but the simple fact is that that you can't blue stainless steel.

And I will say this a dual range stove is a great thing to have propane or natural gas gives you more accurate heat for cooking on the top but electric oven is a no-brainer good even Heating and no carbon dioxide poisoning we are cooking at 24-pound Turkey all them pies we had this happen one Thanksgiving when we were cooking that 24-pound turkey with a bunch of Pies we had to open the back door to get some fresh air in the house people were starting to fall asleep

Great advice and insight, terrific channel. I wish you were in Los Angeles, I'd gladly pay a premium for my appliances to know that I'm getting value for my money and I'm not about to stumble into buying junk. I just bought an LG refrigerator. I had a few questions, I first went online, then called LG. Two hours later I gave up (the operators didn't actually know anything and were looking at the same useless web pages that made me call them in the first place. I figured out enough to swap the door, shrug off any other questions I had and just got on with it. One troubling detail. Doing research prior to buying and while trying to set it up, I found many people asking, "Is the stainless steel door magnetic?" (I know that generally stainless isn't but nickle content varies so some stainless is) Every answer was "No, the doors are not magnetic." My magnets say otherwise. Whose answering these questions?
(That's a long beef I've had with Apple. Have a problem and they direct you to the customers supporting customers web chat where.... you can find a lot of people with the same issue or question; of course they don't have answers that's why we're there. It's like going to the doctor for a medical problem but instead of ever getting to see the doctor, you can only speak to other people in the waiting room. If they have the same symptoms they might have some knowledge- if they knew the cure they wouldn't be there. How effective is that going to be? When the Magic Mouse (version 1) had reliability issues the top rated answer was You should only use the Apple branded rechargeable AA batteries because _they're a slightly different size_ than all other AA batteries. Seriously! The world's largest company was addressing a widespread consumer issue with pure nonsense. The second answer was how to fold paper to squeeze into the battery compartment. The answer I finally arrived at was, get a Logitech mouse.)

I never knew that about the Magic Mouse, I just assumed the mouse I was using at my job broke so we replaced it. Good to know that wasn't the issue 2 years later lol

Bought one Apple product. Ipod. Cost like 160. Lasted barely out of warranty. It looks like new. Never abused or even dropped.
      Never again. Overpriced scam.

Beware of Whirlpool refrigerators! The one I have has no suction relief vent! When loading your groceries and close the door the suction is so bad you can't open the door again for a minute until the suction bleeds away! ULTRA MADDENING! (trick: Reach into the ice maker chute with your finger and lift the flap to relieve the suction.)

In 40+ years of servicing all brands of refrigerators, I've never seen a " suction relief vent!" on a refrigerator or freezer since the late 70's on a handful of large single door upright freezers. This proves you have a good gasket. Not an issue worrying about.
