Don't feel alone. Everybody thought Bobby was black when they heard the song unless they saw the music video and even then it was hard to believe he wasn't black!
Everybody thought Bobby was black. I did. I pictured him as looking like Curtis Mayfield.
You should watch the music video for it, so you could see how he performs
Absolutely!
This was Bobby's biggest hit in 1978. The R&B label that recorded this left his picture off the album & most people were shocked to find out that he was white. Bobby ended up having great success writing hit songs for other artists.
Watch the video!
You have been lied to. This is the a song straight from a white man's heart
Question every thing, .😊
This brings me back to 8th grade and after school dance parties in a classmate’s garage. Definitely watch the music video to see him in action.
If you want to be amazed again, check out Bobby's song "Open Your Eyes." It will probably seem familiar to you. Also, not sure if you've reacted to any of Teena Marie's music but, they intentionally did cover art for her debut album that didn't include her face, for the same reason.
My reaction too, back then.
Don’t be shocked, music is music, if it’s good it doesn’t matter who sings it.
The 70's had so much good music in all genres, by all types of
people.😊
I just found out that my sixteen year old son has this song on his playlist…he absolutely loves this vibe..😎. I grew up listening to Bobby’s music…great music transcends generations and time…👍🎤🔥
Blue eyed soul 💙
Soul comes in many colors.
Bobby was part of our local S. Florida music scene and some of my friends played with him. He recently passed away.
Top ten black cook out songs Doesn't matter what era
You definitely should've reacted to the video!
Dang!! You didn’t pick the official video! To watch him and hear his voice…it’s like a trick on the eyes!
The late 70s was full of this style , The Doobie Bros had changed up as well from folk and rock to this .. Check out Gino Vannelli I just Wanna Stop ...
Next one; Teena Marie’s “SQUARE BIZ” and “BEHIND THE GROOVE”; another Bobby Caldwell situation 🔥
In my top 20 all time songs till I die. TIMELESS PERFECTION!
LOVE THIS SONG!!!
I’ve always enjoyed this song, such a great vibe. I like how it isn’t super repetitive lyric wise.
Love your reaction. One of my favorite songs right there. You should watch him sing it live. It’s Amazing! ❤✌
LOL, surprise, surprise… we all though the same when 1st heard it. Fantastic song. Great song writer also, among many he wrote The next time I fall in love sung by Amy Grant and Peter Cetera.
1978!
Albert Einstein;
“ The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know“
You say the same thing in many of your videos. Basically,Quoting Einstein and not even knowing it!
Reaching the same conclusion as Einstein!
This says a lot about your thought process.👍
He plays most of the instruments as well on this.
Not really. He plays keyboard & guitar.
Please try, Take Me Back To Then - Bobby Caldwell. Beautiful song.
LOL-you need to see the compilation video where people realize he is white-hysterical! Wish you would have reacted to the video of him singing this.
... there was a reason the record company put his picture in silhouette on the front cover!!!! They were initially afraid R&B stations wouldn't play his music if they knew he was white. Once the stations played his music, and found the listeners liked it, then it was OK for him to be reveal as a white man, but if the stations had known that ahead of time, since he was relatively an unknown artist at the release of his first single and album, then yes... they probably would not have ever put his record on the turntable.
You aren’t the only one, and I use to listen to this song on the radio back in the day and thought it was maybe earth, wind and fire? Wasn’t until couple months back, I watched these reaction videos 😮😮😮 if the DJ didn’t mention the name, how was I supposed to know 🤷♀️ not sure if this was before mtv? I was in college at the time, and there was no need to pay for cable in socal. (And never watched midnight special). 😢 seems like I missed out on a lot.
Watch the video to see him playing several instruments.
Watch the video!!!
You need to check out George Benson. Look him up. Had a bunch of hits in the 70's and 80's. Similar smooth soulfulness but he also plays amazing jazzy guitar that blends & harmonizes with his vocals.
Join the million people group who thought the same as you😊😊😊😊😊
Listen to the song "Tennessee Whiskey "
You should have watched the actual video.
❤❤❤ watch the video ❣️
RIP Bobby Caldwell. 1978 so I've been loving this song since I was 10. I've actually sang this during drunk Karaoke.😁
I remember 😂
Haha! I just saw your world get rocked! Love it! 😂 We all love and make good music ❤
Yo, Natalie Cole, and Peabo Bryson do a fire cover 🔥 of this. It's not to be missed!
As a 65 yo white dude, I bought this album immediately when it came out and knew he was white from the get-go so I never really understood why everyone thought he was black. lol Grayson Hugh, on the other hand I thought was black till I bought his album Blind To Reason back in the late 80s. Talk It Over was his highest charting song at #19 on the Hot 100 and #9 on the Adult Contemporary chart and he gives off major Chris Stapleton vibes, check him out!
Musicians are a very open bunch! Of course, there are racist musicians, but most musicians only care if you play or not! And, real talent can change minds, if not hearts. Bobby flat-out kills this song. How can you NOT love it???
Racism goes Both Ways!!!! I never new my mother had racist bias until I invited a girl how for Thanksgiving from the University; She was just a friend that was stuck on campus and happened to be WHITE; but my mother gave me the Lecture and Looks.... LOL
Grocery store karaoke song. My wife tends to walk away a lot.
IF I'M MISTAKEN, THAT WAS THE THEME MUSIC FOR THE SHOW TO CLOSE FOR COMFORT.
The long pauses without saying anything are diva-like.
Yo ... I just watched your reaction to Rage Against the Machine.
I left a couple of people to check out. You should definitely look up HED P.E. they have a couple different sounds.
I think Too Close for Comfort just ripped it off.
So it seems after all white men can jump ,,, and sing soul too!😊of course when you listen to Daryl Hall and John Oates, The Righteous Brothers and a few others you realize soul comes from the inside and not what anybody looks like!
Dramatic much?
M&m white and i dont like rap make your own music instead of stealing sampels
