Wait until you them do "Rapture", and then you'll understand the hip-hop connection as it was the first song to feature hip-hop lyrics that hit #1 on the charts.
Worst rap ever, but funny.
She also worked in the Playboy Club in NYC from 1968-1973 as a Playboy Bunny. She truly was uniquely beautiful.
I think she's pretty traditionally beautiful.
Their song Dreaming is even better. You will especially love the drums in that song.
In the history of the world nobody has ever said Debbie Harry sounds out of pitch.
He changed the course of history
@@yournamehere6002 Right.
I definitely get what he means.
@@rb7007 I also get what he means, but it's most definitely not true.
Well, let's not pretend she was some sort of powerhouse vocalist, she wasn't - at all. A unique voice goes a long way, especially when used within it's limits.
I remember dancing to this in the Disco that they had on Sunday afternoons in town where I grew up for ages 13-17. Like it was yesterday, & I’m 58 now.
There aren’t many boys of a certain age who didn’t have a crush on Debbie Harry. This song comes from Parallel Lines which I think is their best album. Well worth a listen to more of those tracks. This is an absolute classic. The synth sounds, the drumming, the vocals. Iconic. A New Wave classic.
I had a crush on her, well she was a playboy model once, and great singer! Peace from Northern Michigan!
she's incredibly gorgeous
I'm 57 and you are so right! My husband passed away 5 years ago @ 56 , and he adored her.
I was at that age, it's all true.
Debbie Harry has a voice that cuts through every instrument in her band. She is an incredible vocalist. Check out the very first rap song I ever heard. Blondie-Rapture.
*All their songs sound different. PLEASE check out "Hangin' On The Telephone," "One Way Or Another," "Rapture" (the first #1 rap song!), "The Tide Is High," Call Me," (the theme from the Richard Gere film American Gigolo)...*
Great band! Debbie Harry is a talented singer and there is nothing pitchy or off key about her voice. Blondie have a diverse catalogue of songs. This was the disco hit and their other music is different so definitely check out more. Some good suggestions have already been made in the comments.
Their song "Rapture" is considered by some to be the first rap tune.
My favorite years for music are the 60s & 70s (think bands & artists like Yes, Traffic, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Allman Brothers, Little Feat, Rolling Stones, Jackson Browne, etc.) but I fell in love with this song & band (and I did not care for disco at all) the first time I heard this song. They had that much talent and ability to make such a huge impact on me. ❤️
Rapture wasn't the first rap song at all. It was the first number one song with rap in it, and the first time a white band recorded rap.
Dear Debbie,
I still want it.
If you like the drumming on this song, check out their song called “Dreaming” 🔥
blondie did difrent styles of music, punk, rock, pop, reggae, disco, try atomic, call me, tide is high, rapture, she write v first song wit rap in it 2 go mainstream. wasa world wide hit.
Blondie's Drummer was great. Try the song "Dreaming".
always felt this was kinda pop punk disco - great song! ♥ You gotta check out their song - *Call Me*
You should watch their live performance from The Midnight Special. Debbie Harry was high as a kite. Still knocked that show out of the park.
You are going to love Rapture! Great song. You should check out the Charismatic Voice breakdown of the vocals.
Truth
I’ve always thought of Blondie as more Punk influenced
"If she was singing this to me in this room, I would be like." Lol.
You're just too good for Blondie in her heyday.
*No, Debbie absolutely IS pitch-perfect. HOWEVER, when she draws-out the entire phrase "Once I had a love....", the word "love" falls into the next word as a bridge to the changing note. It's not out of pitch, it's an inflection which causes the intentional ANGST AND LAMENT of this classic one-of-a-kind masterpiece.*
‘I can feel the cocaine’ 😂
You're right. It is a bridge between disco and the upcoming 80s.
I could never understand what the heck she was singing but always loved the songs nevertheless! Great beats and melodies. Very cool and of course she was visually stunning. The 70’s had so many incredible songs. I really hate that we always want to rate things. I’m guilty, but how many times can you say this is one of my top ten favorites when you love thousands of songs and hundreds of singers!
Blondie is technically a punk band. They were one of the earliest bands that "sampled" different genres. They had no problem using reggae, disco, rock, whatever to make a song. Their music can best be described as having a dreamlike quality to it.
The singing from the band “Cake” has the same brake down of lyrics is similar. That’s a band you should check out. But blonde is no joke, heart of glass is one of their most popular and “radio pope”
“Rapture” I believe is their most rapperish
WTF LOL STUDIO 74 LMAO I GET LIKE A SUPER HEAVY METAL SWING TYPE THING LOL . STUDIO 54.
They have the first no.1 rap song
I love this and many of our songs. When "Rapture" was in the discos, we lost our minds on the dance floors. We'd never heard rap before! There are several videos for "Rapture," and the one I like best is "Blondie - Rapture (Official Video)
Blondie (apart being the focus of all us teenage boys at the time) also did the the very first RAP on British TV
Check out "Rapture" ❤
Studio 54
Blonde was the first rapper, with their song Rapture. A year later, after Rapture was released, The Sugar Hill Gang released Rappers Delight, and rap music was born.
They showed Studio 54 in the beginning of the video.
Blondie is a group way ahead of their time. Mixing elements of punk, new wave, pop, rock, disco, reggae, rap. Try Rapture, Dreaming, One Way or Another, Call Me, Hanging on the Telephone
Well, I have no interest in you seeing Rapture now. You've kind of ruined the surprise.
One of the best songs of the '70s. I don't hear anything flat in her singing.
Check out Debbie Harry rapping in “Rapture”
Debbie also did the Scarface soundtrack Rush Rush 1983.
What's he mean by "flat"?
When you read your initial research on the band, you real that the band had an 'electric ' blend of music. I'm pretty sure you misread 'eclectic'...which is important in helping you to understand Blondie's style. ALSO...you wondered what was making the wirey sound in the song... just after they showed you the guy making the sound. 😂 You are funny. This band is and was always fire.
She does have a song in Scarface LOL 🤣 - Debbie Harry “Rush Rush”
Got to do Call Me.
The Toadies did a really good cover of this song.
I think she is slightly sharp consistently. Her voice is airy so it needs that to cut through. I've seen Sade on pitch monitoring software and she does the same thing. As we're finding out from constant pitch correction a perfect voice can be very boring and mechanical.
I always thought this had a little edgy ABBA in it, but that’s just me. She also loved rap and hip-hop. She was one of the people who help get it to the mainstream from what I read, but someone can explain more accurately than I can.
Debbie Harry was originally a brunette, but yes, Blondie like the much older comic strip.
This was a disco hit so of course Studio 54. When Blondie got word that the song was a hit....
Out of pitch? You're kidding.
Drew, you’re going to have to retract your statement before there’s a news story about a reaction video calls Debbie Harry out of pitch. 😂 never have I ever! Hahaha, next, Call Me please along with Rapture.
❤
I think you will like "Rapture"
Do Hanabie Be the Gal Early Summer Version, and turn on Subtitles
You'll be amazed by Rapture
Selling rights to songs late in life is not uncommon... adding to a cause is perhaps vs top $$$. Debbie Harry is 79 yrs old today.... and no children.
Do a more modern Disco song, technically Kpop
9 Muses Glue music video
You picked the censored version.
??
@@nim4464 Unedited. Verse 3]
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out to be a pain in the ass
Seemed like the real thing only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind.
@@briancleveland6115 it says that in the video though, its not censored
@@briancleveland6115Those lyrics are in this version. Right near the end.
@@blairhaffly1777 I accidentally made that comment for the wrong video.
"Rapture" is the song where she raps.....late 70s so be ready for some corniness by todays standards.
Crappy reaction. To say her voice is out of pitch is just ridiculous. Her voice is amazing. Thumbs down.
Cocaine, just a little heh.
Next stop, Rapture then One way or another and Hangin on the telephone.
Keep going from there.
Good one here.
