She doesn't get enough credit for the quality of her voice. She was actually excellent, both in studio and live. Very pure tones. There's a clip of her doing a cover of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" that really shows her voice's quality off well.
Not only is she a pitch-perfect vocalist , but she also wrote interesting lyrics . Who else would say, "Mucho mistrust?" Only Debbie would throw in a Spanish word like that.
@ a great example 2 b sure. For me, the peak of her writing was Rapture. OMG! Just take a read of those lyrics. Eminem would be proud to come with anything that awesome.
@@solipsismworld When I saw them at the Cleveland Agora nightclub, and Debbie did "Goldfinger" by Shirley Bassey, complete with an obscene gesture, I did not get that opinion.
Think this first time I seen anything live by them. Have to be honest, I think this band carried her in this performance. Not great vocals so sensing she was not great live but the guys in the band seem like they can at least play live.
Creo que en una entrevista ella dijo que le gustaba usar ropa reciclada, de otra época ,es posible que sea una falda trasformada con ese diseño, a ella le queda bien bien.
why didn't you? Were you into different bands/music at the time? Or not into music much at all? I ask because I am shocked at so much great music I have missed out in my lifetime because my obsessions were elsewhere at the time
@@smashedpumpking I was mostly into heavy rock, but was always open to other styles. The only songs I heard were the two hits on the radio such as One Way Or Another. @MostlyBrenda Thank you for sharing your thoughts. If it wouldn't have been for you... I would've never known about "The Midnight Special" channel. 😊 Thanks again! 💖
Long before Botox, fillers and all other manner of injections. I know they had plastic surgery in the 70s but women still looked a lot different and didn't go overboard with it.
I just cant get over her outfit, I dont know if I luv it or "hated it"... I'm glad she didn't wear that on stage when I saw them in '80 in Boston, she would have "popped out" several times!
What I just found out only weeks ago from one random comment on RUclips is that the dress, designed by her designer friend Stephen Sprouse, was meant to be worn with the backside in the front but Debbie being the punk that she was flipped it and wore it backwards. I never knew this and always thought how she wore it was how it was designed.
She has a nice blue sleeveless dress, nice blue tights, nice blue high heel shoes, nice jewelry, nice makeup, and nice blonde hair, she looks very beautiful
Can I just say that this channel is FANTASTIC! I grew up watching and listening to these bands, and would catch The Midnight Special when I could (i.e. if my parents weren't around). I now live in Australia, and you give me the regular nostalgia trip I need. Thank you.
What a great band! Wish I would have caught them live BITD. Sadly, her commentary about nuclear proliferation midway thru the song is still so relevant today.
the band , that drummer are, were awesome. All the best bands had in total - the best complete members contributing to blossom and accent the singer. Very Important.
This was after Eat to the Beat came out. She wore that unitard for every appearance the record company made them do. They finally gave her something new to wear for Dick Clark’s Rock’n New Years Eve a few months later. I remember that very distinctly; my family and I were on holiday in NYC from Sweden. That night was my introduction to Blondie, and I wanted to be Debbie Harry. She left a major impression on my 10yo self. So much so, I attended university in NYC eight years later. I never met her, but I never expected to. It’s only a happy childhood memory.
I remember dancing to Heart of Glass at the disco. Great fun. What was Blondie? Disco? New Wave? Rock? A very versatile band and genre. I still don’t know after 40 years since when they came out in the late 70s of listening to Blondie how you classify them. “Dreams” - very few songs compare to the energy and how much fun it was to be there rolling into the 80s when it came out.
Except for 1 thing, nuclear power is the cleanest form of energy known to man. Most people have no comprehension of just how big our planet is. Every human being on earth could fit comfortably into the state of Florida. We have absolutely zero control or long lasting impact on our planet's climate.
Remember as though it were yesterday my brother bringing home the. Brilliant double album London calling and the single heart of glass released the same time in 79
How the times have changed. Today she would have instead said some kind of sanctimonious platitudes about how everybody needs to obey the regime, you know, by rolling up their sleeve or giving up their gas car.
Excellent music wrapped around her BS message. I remember this so well getting stoned and drunk with my cousin, roommate, friends off the Reservation at Montana State University in 1978 I believe.
The band was top notch and she spent her professional career trying to convince the world blondie was the band, but truthfully this woman, beautiful Debbie WAS Blondie.
Debbie Harry was very creative in making her political comment about curtailing the Nuclear Arms Race between the USA and USSR during the Song ! ! The song is ranked as the #1 song in 1980 by Blondie and many critics call it the Ultimate Disco song ( along with " Dancing Queen "by ABBA ) ..Just 4 months later, the " Miracle on Ice " occurred at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , NY when the American College Hockey Athletes defeated the heavily favored USSR Elite Hockey team ! Debbie Harry and her band Blondie recorded the iconic "Dreaming " tune a few months later at a Sound Stage in NYC. She was wearing the same Royal Blue tank top ! " Dreaming " is my favorite Blondie Tune ! Please check it out on RUclips ! It is like a " Wall of Sound " video that was inspired by Phil Spector!
One of the best frontwoman in rock. Debbie is truly ICONIC.
ICON is right!
What about Wendy O williams and the Plasmatics? I think she blew everything...😂
The best IMO
Sexiest woman that ever walked the Earth..
Disco, id have to say ann wilson or pat benatar or joan jett probably give her a run in the rock category
She performed last week in Annapolis MD at age 78. She is great ever. Wasn’t Midnight Special the best music show ever? Nothing like it today.
In the late 1970's no one knows this was the new 80's sound before the 80's
Well said Amigo!
So true
They literally called Blondie and this music style “New Wave”.
You are always brilliant, you are the best for me 😍🙌
She was just unconventionally cool. Dared to be unique and pulled it off.

OMFG YES! It was a live show in London. The video is on here. Note-for-note perfection. Summer of '79 maybe?
Didn't know that - Wow
