She doesn't get enough credit for the quality of her voice. She was actually excellent, both in studio and live. Very pure tones. There's a clip of her doing a cover of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" that really shows her voice's quality off well.
OMFG YES! It was a live show in London. The video is on here. Note-for-note perfection. Summer of '79 maybe?
She is high as the sky and doesn't miss a beat.
Ca-Ca-Ka-Ka-Co-Cocaine. 🌨️
One of the best frontwoman in rock. Debbie is truly ICONIC.
ICON is right!
What about Wendy O williams and the Plasmatics? I think she blew everything...😂
If you are looking for the EXACT moment that Disco morphed into 80s New Wave...you've found it.
Very well said and summarized!
New Wave and disco were two distinctly different genres.
They may have merged from time to time but one did not morph into the other.
They are on New Wave no question…I have The Cars, though.
@@1969ETypeRoxy Music influenced the Cars and so many others. The Cars and Japan basically invented the 80s new wave sound
@@devintariel3769 "Boys~ Are you contemplating... moving out some... where?"
She performed last week in Annapolis MD at age 78. She is great ever. Wasn’t Midnight Special the best music show ever? Nothing like it today.
In the late 1970's no one knows this was the new 80's sound before the 80's
Well said Amigo!
So true
Great voice. Especially because she is singing live effortlessly.
Her outfit here is so avante garde. Spectacular. And almost certainly a "Deb Creation", something she came up with herself.
It's great until you realize the fastener clearly belongs on the back and she's wearing it back to front, then you can't unsee it!
@@sotv2045 I don't think it was the fastener she was trying to show off!
Multiverse of Michael, fantastic! 🎉❤🎉
Yes, Debbie is fantastic. But what made Blondie great is that this was one tight band with great players.
Blondie was a famously poor live act
@@solipsismworld When I saw them at the Cleveland Agora nightclub, and Debbie did "Goldfinger" by Shirley Bassey, complete with an obscene gesture, I did not get that opinion.
@@solipsismworldnot Clem burke,
Think this first time I seen anything live by them. Have to be honest, I think this band carried her in this performance. Not great vocals so sensing she was not great live but the guys in the band seem like they can at least play live.
One of the best women to ever Rock!
Clem Burke plays quite a few variations of the basic beat but never loses the rhythm, great drummer.
He is!!
Wow, not lip synced. I'm impressed ! Lucky R Blondie fans...
IKR
She's great and got the moves
Blondie Changed the music scene !
Amazing drummer!
Clem Burke is a beast on drums.
His head movements are amazing
@@kbusby4824his work on “Dreaming” is epic
Elvis Ramone is still going strong!
Clem Burke definition of being in the moment
I remember driving home, hearing this and when she said “pain in the ass” well, first time ever hearing that on am radio. Still great!
Love this raw, live version. So good. So real.
The breakdown rap about nuclear power is one of the coolest things that ever happened on network TV.
WHOA!
Except for 1 thing, nuclear power is the cleanest form of energy known to man. Most people have no comprehension of just how big our planet is. Every human being on earth could fit comfortably into the state of Florida. We have absolutely zero control or long lasting impact on our planet's climate.
@@donniev8181 nuclear power is the dirtiest form of energy and the most expensive.
@@texwilson2453 She specifically says "the use of nuclear power"
Badass Debbie but high af!
A classic hit of late 70s classy lady ! One of my favorite !
Best female singer ever ❤
And she wrote most of her big hits,
I was in grade school when Blondie was big. I loved Debbie Harry, she was my special girl on the radio. These are good times from wonderful Blondie.
With a band this good led by a singer this hot and talented-no way they were not going to be huge.
I didn't think the band was very good.
She was just unconventionally cool. Dared to be unique and pulled it off.
Debbie harry is such a bad ass
And that why WE LOVE HER❤️
Well a cute ass anyway!
This is one of my favorite Blondie songs.
It came out at such an impressionable time in my life.
Happy Thursday... thank you for sharing! 💖
I welcomed New Wave over the Disco fad. Blondie, Talking Heads etc. seemed so fresh compared to that repetitive beat. Good to see you on the channel!
@MostlyBrenda Thank you for sharing your thoughts. If it wouldn't have been for you... I would've never known about "The Midnight Special" channel. 😊 Thanks again! 💖
many, many thanks for Blondie !!!
Great drummer Great band
What a great band! Wish I would have caught them live BITD. Sadly, her commentary about nuclear proliferation midway thru the song is still so relevant today.
burke always feeling his perfect beats in his whole body
I love her outfit. 😁
More of that outfit. Super sexy. ruclips.net/video/TU3-lS_Gryk/видео.html
Love this girl
Great band, great singer. This is Rock n Roll!
I love you Blondie ❤
Cannot believe they executed this so perfectly live - wow!
She is the epitome of cool.
She is a man! Everyone is! Get with it Baphom et
Yea yea, now that one’s live!!!
Lovely stuff
Ty,Blondie for gracing the stage of the Midnight Special 🎉🎉
a true songstress & entertainer is Debbie Harry - fun to watch !
Sorry to say this but 70s and 80s girls of America are truly beautiful, more than now!
Long before Botox, fillers and all other manner of injections. I know they had plastic surgery in the 70s but women still looked a lot different and didn't go overboard with it.
She’s so cool and iconic.
Thank you for uploading these! I remember seeing this on tv when I was 11.
I just cant get over her outfit, I dont know if I luv it or "hated it"...
I'm glad she didn't wear that on stage when I saw them in '80 in Boston, she would have "popped out" several times!
What I just found out only weeks ago from one random comment on RUclips is that the dress, designed by her designer friend Stephen Sprouse, was meant to be worn with the backside in the front but Debbie being the punk that she was flipped it and wore it backwards. I never knew this and always thought how she wore it was how it was designed.
Deborah Harry is one of the most beautiful women ever born.
Can I just say that this channel is FANTASTIC! I grew up watching and listening to these bands, and would catch The Midnight Special when I could (i.e. if my parents weren't around). I now live in Australia, and you give me the regular nostalgia trip I need. Thank you.
This is a fantastic track
Man, this chick can dance......mesmerizing movement.
Debbie is stellar! ♥
Those eyes oh my God ❤️❤️❤️
Love this! 💙
Remember as though it were yesterday my brother bringing home the. Brilliant double album London calling and the single heart of glass released the same time in 79
great thing about MS, no lip syncing!
I am hooked on this.
She looks so cute here. Her hair cut, her outfit everything 😍
Ditto!
How cool is that National Map Guitar!!! Jeese!
Hey, this one is not lip-synced like the first Hear of Glass I watched on The Midnight Special video.
This was after Eat to the Beat came out. She wore that unitard for every appearance the record company made them do. They finally gave her something new to wear for Dick Clark’s Rock’n New Years Eve a few months later. I remember that very distinctly; my family and I were on holiday in NYC from Sweden. That night was my introduction to Blondie, and I wanted to be Debbie Harry. She left a major impression on my 10yo self. So much so, I attended university in NYC eight years later. I never met her, but I never expected to. It’s only a happy childhood memory.
I remember dancing to Heart of Glass at the disco. Great fun. What was Blondie? Disco? New Wave? Rock? A very versatile band and genre. I still don’t know after 40 years since when they came out in the late 70s of listening to Blondie how you classify them. “Dreams” - very few songs compare to the energy and how much fun it was to be there rolling into the 80s when it came out.
Blondie was rock and rock is diversified.
Man she was loaded lol
Debbie Harry is a fucking legend.
First Grammy winner in Hip Hop
Love that midnight special was live and had no lip syncing like all other shows.
FAB :)
I ❤ Blondie ❤❤❤
New Wave along with the Police & the Cars; love Blondie she so cute 🥰
Dropped the key from E Major to D Major (Dreaming's key btw) and still sounds GREAT!
Que bueno en vivo este temita, asta hoy lo escucho
Loira sensacional ❤❤❤
The best
Tremendous
Clem Burke is in beast mode!
Tearing shit up!
I loved how she slipped in her spoken word political message in the middle of the song on live tv. Awesome. Mucho respect, rock on forever.
My god, how she can be that strung out and still sing flawlessly is incredible
Debbie Harry was very creative in making her political comment about curtailing the Nuclear Arms Race between the USA and USSR during the Song ! ! The song is ranked as the #1 song in 1980 by Blondie and many critics call it the Ultimate Disco song
( along with " Dancing Queen "by ABBA ) ..Just 4 months later, the " Miracle on Ice " occurred at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , NY when the American College Hockey Athletes defeated the heavily favored USSR Elite Hockey team ! Debbie Harry and her band Blondie recorded the iconic "Dreaming " tune a few months later at a Sound Stage in NYC. She was wearing the same Royal Blue tank top ! " Dreaming " is my favorite Blondie Tune ! Please check it out on RUclips ! It is like a " Wall of Sound " video that was inspired by Phil Spector!
Who hasn't heard dreaming?
Debbie is wow wow
Sing It Live tried to cover this last week... Not even close
Very beautiful girl! In those times people could get close to the band, but today that's impossible 😂
Real woman, real singer nuff said
❤
SMOKING HOT!!!!
❤❤❤
Blondie
❤❤❤❤🇨🇱
The band was top notch and she spent her professional career trying to convince the world blondie was the band, but truthfully this woman, beautiful Debbie WAS Blondie.
In the beginning Debbie tried to convince the other members to bleach their hair as well but they wouldn't go fot it.
I stole the majority of my chops from
the amazing
Clem Burke,
and I can’t thank him enough
And he stole his from someone else. Hal Blaine, Keith Moon, Ringo and Earl Palmer.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMHthat’s how it goes !
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH He cites Phil Collins as one of his main influences.
This could be habit forming. I like it!

Holy cow.
Debbie is everything Taylor Swift isn't. True Class
Sounds like you’re jealous of Taylor Swift 😅
Goofball
Nunca mais vai surgir um vocalista versátil, sexy e linda como a Debby.
Simplesmente divina.

The definition of SEXY...perfectly beautiful and sultry, yet innocent... unlike most of them now...
Is it just me or could Debbie Harry and Michelle Pfeiffer be sisters?
True!
Only Debbie Harry could pull off the sexy Smurf outfit. 😂
