Thumbs up if you miss the music of the 70s!
This song came out in 1980.
@@vxy357 I think it was September 1979
1976
Life in the '70s sure was FUN!!!!!!
@@marymoran8859 as as kid, yes it was!
When I was a freshman in high school, back in 1980, I had a friend named Tommy (passed away some years ago) who absolutely loved Blondie. While neither one of us had any money at all, I managed to procure a cassette copy of something like "Parallel lines" somehow for free from some family member or other. Not wanting to give it away, I made Tommy a copy through simply playing the original cassette on an abysmally shitty home stereo system onto something like a portable K-Mart cassette recorder. The result was, suboptimal at best, but Tommy just cherished it so much. He would walk around the school track during Gym class (8AM for fuck sake) clutching that cassette player while it meekly played Deborah Harry's voice softly across the pitch of an equally shitty, not frequently used athletic field.
Long live Tommy.
Beautiful 😢
We all have a Tommy in our past, it's their memories that keep us going, without then we'd have given up long ago.
Yea, long live Tommy, and all the intrepid others like him, in a way they're lucky, unlike us they'll never get old and wore out.
I totally can can see it, thanks for the memory
We each did some crazy but harmless thing at that age.
Great description. Almost feels like I knew this guy.
I held my little tape recorder to our beautiful Zenith floor model TV and recorded this performance. ❤🎉
The feds are on their way. 😎
Blondie where also great live. No auto tune here. Just brilliant singing and playing.
Ok boomer. It's not like people have forgotten how to sing and play brilliantly.
@@ontheruntonowhere im not a boomer. I'm 64!
@@garyowens1517 You talk like one, putting down the way today's music is made. Things change, but there's still great music being made by very talented people. So what if we use autotune? If it's not your thing, cool, but autotune doesn't somehow make 70s music better because it exists. 70s music is good on its own. It's not a competition.
@@ontheruntonowhere I never condemned today's music. All I said was great playing and no auto tune. What's wrong with that comment. For your information I'm 64 .
@@ontheruntonowhere Ah. Actually you are very mistaken. Talent that uses autotune is not on the level of talent that did not use autotune. It's that simple. This peformance above, like so many back in the day is PURE.
Clem Burke...legend🥁
Hell yes!
Tremendous!!🥁🥁🥁
Yes, if only he'd have played with just a bit more enthusiasm...
I get tired watching him drum this one
💯💯
Fantastic! Debbie never looked sexier. Chris's guitar added a sweetness to the hard, driving drums. One my favourites of theirs.
She well did. This must be her worst outfit she ever wore in her prime.
Clem Burke was (and still is) one of the greatest and most underrated drummers ever!
Should have been the Who’s next drummer.
This mix had him to low, still epic
That video shows just how great Blondie really was. Bravo!
Clem Burke is the most underrated percussionist in the history of beating on stuff.
And none of them got a royalty share. That's the cold part.
He's pounding those skins like they owe him money
One of favorite Blondie songs
Clem, having his own little party back there on the kit!
What a drummer, the man can beat those skins!
Glad to see more than a few people also noticed what a MONSTER Clem Burke is on the kit 😁❤️! This, from someone who is a die-hard fan of The Who - I bet even Keith Moon is grinning his ass off over this incredible lightspeed percussion avalanche ❤️👍👍!
This was their opening number when my friends and I saw Blondie at Asbury Park's Convention Hall, on the boardwalk that summer. The ticket taker had just ripped our tickets in half when we heard Clem Burke's drums resounding down the dark passage to get to the main floor. The exhilaration we felt, as we ran toward the music I shall never forget.
Very cool! I was stationed at Ft.Monmouth and loved that place too.
Clem Burke ripping it up
Absolutley. He was always the motor that drove Blondie. So glad he's still out there backing Deborah Harry..
Drummer was the stand out. Killed it. Debbie was unbelievable as well.
What a band and so amazing live.
Just beautiful, she is a legend ✌🏼☺️
I remember this broadcast. Deborah Harry had a huge influence over music and fashion. It was a very special time in rock music. Renegades like Blondie rescued the world from the clutches of disco. For that, they have my gratitude.
this comment is amazing
This comment actually made me tear up and I'm an 80's baby.
The "renegades" were called "new wave" - including the Cars, b-52s etc.
I liked Blondie, and was there then as well, but when you say “they rescued the world from the clutches of disco” you’re talking nonsense. Their first big hit, Heart of Glass, was a total disco song. In fact, when Chris Stein wrote it his working title for it was, The Disco Song, and he readily admitted the inspiration for it was Hues Corporation’s “Rock the Boat.” Blondie regularly covered disco songs (Honey Bee, My Imagination) in their live shows including their defining cover of Donna Summer’s I Feel Love, at the Johnny Blitz benefit concert in May 1978.
Blondie did plenty, but they clutched tightly to disco, and rap, and many other assorted genres.
Clem Burke...King Of The Tubs!
What a time, what a performance, what a stunningly beautiful singer!
Agreed!!❤
Yeah. But questionable fashion sense.
My favorite Blondie tune! Love seeing Debbie Harry and the band Rockin' it!
A Beautiful Blondie... with a Phenomenal voice!
Happy Tuesday... thank you for sharing! 💖
WOW!!
What an iconic presence Debbie was.
Very controlled while she delivered excellent vocals live in such a rockin’ band! NOT EASY!
Awesome performance!!
The concept and musicianship to back it up!!
The drummer had the best seat in the house- night after night! What a view!
He was a little too busy being the greatest drummer of his generation to be staring at Debbie's ass....
Bit shapeless for me.
That’s what I was thinking
Considering he had much better views for many years in private. BTW, she's 5 foot 3. Petites are wonderful.
Clem burke killin it on drums
Clem and Debbie in matching blue!
I remember staying up late to watch this when it aired, great teenage memories!
Finally a live performance!
A very special gift to all of us.
What an iconic assembly of musicians. Back in the day, I thought of Blondie as Debbie Harry with a band. While she is an icon of Blondie in her own right, and deservedly so, Blondie was truly the iconic sum of each of its parts.
Yes... Chris Stein, Jimmy Destri, Clem Burke, Frank Infante and Nigel Harrison. Quality musicians in this 1979 appearance. Also past members Ivan Kral, Gary Valentine and Fred Smith
Another great song! 🙌😍
Clem is an absolute BEAST.
Blondie 's fans must B happy of all those posts...I just need one...
This video took me through a worm hole, right back to my teens and totally blew my mind once again; Christ what an amazing band they really were.
One of the best live performances, ever imo
Great drummer!!!
Debbie Harry was stunning. A beautiful woman and a fantastic band.
Blondie is such a good dancer , also!!
Clem Burke: world-class drummer.
What a fabulous clip of Blondie! Great song.
Fkng incredible band.
ICONIC ❤
Clem Burke was a fantastic drummer.
Going crazy while wearing a mod suit! Love it!
Channeling his Keith Moon. He is just amazing. Go Clem!
He still is a fantastic drummer
Still is !!!
That's hair helmet though
A drum solo with words.
I like how they were more guitar heavy live.
Wish their studio records had kept that sound.
Deb never gets enough credit as a singer - as if looks and talent can't co-exist.
Love this song! Thanks 💙
This is great. Thank you.
The most underrated rock band in history..A monster group
Clem is beating those skins like they owe him money.
So awesome! ❤
THANK YOU
Clear and Sound!
Who needs a drum machine when you have Clem Burke?
The Human Drum Machine
Gorgeous ensemble! ❤ beautiful blondie. Loved this era so much.
Love that 70's romper. What a fox she is.
Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Pink, none of the later year female acts will come close to her. No arrogance, no politics, no preaching, whining or acting like she is anything other than herself. THATS how entertainers should be....
Pink is good. The rest are just commercial performers. I highly recommend seeing Pink live.
Totally agree, Deborah Harry was a Gem
Really??? Deborah Harry didn’t do politics or preaching?
Watch this, from the same episode of Midnight Special as she does a mid-song bit against nuclear power.
Blondie, and Deborah Harry, were always a political band. That was their thing.

@@arlopop Ill stand corrected to a degree, they were a punk band, and most punk bands were against the establishment, if you will. And I have nothing against anyone having an opinion, that's why the freedom we have is great, we can do that. But when you become arrogant, like you are more important than the president, it goes from expression of your opinion to thinking you are smarter than people you're not. Hollywood, as well as many music celebrities have lost their place, the attention has made them think they are more than they are. Take like Swift for instance, her music is targeted at young girls, her parents taught her how to sell her lyrics by keeping them toward that audience. Her, Cyrus, and many more have to get on stage and all but strip, mainly because not much is covered anyway, that's how they sell music. Harry was indeed sexy, but she never exposed herself like they do. What she is talking about in that song was the anti-nuclear movement from the 70s and 80s. Using nuclear power scared people to death, so they were against it. But she sang a hint of it in her song, she didn't get on social media or tv and say to hate the president because she didn't agree with him. If you were blessed with a good voice, then are lucky enough to make it big, be grateful. But don't start feeling like God and instructing your fans how they should think and feel. Singing good, acting good, does not improve your intellect......
look good in blue
"It matches your skin, your eyes dripping with pain"...
Yup, I get that reference, on one of my Fav albums!
Beautiful
i miss that dress ! 😘
How so? It's here in the video. Or you had it yourself and the chipmunks stole it?
LIVE ROCK AND ROLL!!!!
Still the best in 2024! Thank you blonde for great music……not like todays garbage
Boy, they are tight live!
Excellent!😃
Yes I do... And the lyrics stand up to the test of time VERY well...! If I may say so humbly....
Awesome!
Perfect
The 80s were so epic that they started early! ❤
I was so in love with her!!! Clem Burke was great and Debbie could sing her butt off!! Go to a karaoke show and listen to girls try to sing Blondie songs!! It's an eye opener!
Drummer kicks ass. So fun to watch.
Just great.
great tune
Clem Burke on point!!!
Stunning debbie
I'm amazed! The first time I've ever seen Debbie in the same bit of gear she hasn't worn before. Either way, wonderful stuff.
What gre singer❤❤❤😊😊😊
Great band.
I finally realize and admit that Debbie Harry is an excellent singer.
My first crush
Clem Burke my favorite drummer
FAB :)
I met Ms Harry at a small London venue when Blondie first came to England, 1977? She gave me a peck on the cheek at the bar where I was standing with some record execs. I think she thought I was in the industry. I still haven’t washed that cheek to this day.
Sounds good.
those gorgeous eyes
This was when i fell in love with her.
❤❤❤
I agree Clem is great on this but Jimmy Destri is killing it on the Farfisa and Debbie's vocal is AMAZING! Not to mention what a great song this is. There's a reason this band is in the HoF!
❤ブロンディ❤最高❤❤❤
She and Siouxsie started the 80’s. Punk into alternative
I wanted this 45 so bad. Ended up with Parallel Lines L.P. So expensive to build a collection.
Most of the audience looked like they were dead. They had no idea they were living in the most special time in human history.
Even pushing 80, Harry still has the pipes.
The pipes, yes. Only the voice is gone.
They were good
🤩
Quintessencial New Wave
Clem!!!!!!!!!❤️
Back when music was great
Debbie would be gorgeous wearing a blue plastic trashbag
Unfortunately, this outfit is worse than a trashbag.
Watching this when it aired in 1979, I was in 8th grade. I kinda had a school boy crush on her, she was cool and hot 🔥!
The one time I only want to see the drummer the whole time.
Please post this whole show for the MEMBERS ONLY
