Grew up with this vinyl in my mom's collection and played it many times. Only learned Bobby was white last year! My mind was blown looking at the dude. God is great.
😄👍 - He played guitar for Little Richard, and was a studio musician, playing multiple instruments. He played all the music for this song and all the backup vocals too. What a talent! Take Prince for example...he played all 26 instruments on his own first album! Some people are just meant for music!
@@bobbyshroyer440 Of course I didn’t coin the phrase, but I can see how it would be offensive. I certainly didn’t mean to offend or upset anyone. My apologies. ☮️💟
wow, you want to feel everything you hear in this song! Look what Bobby did, in writing, singing playing this song, opened up this big beautiful door...wow! thanks for the love..!
"My whole childhood was a lie!" 🤣🤣 I'm white and I've loved this song since it came out (I was eleven) and I thought he was a brother like Al Jarreau or Donnie Hathaway!!! I just discovered Bobby was white, too and my jaw still on the floor!! Donnie Hathaway had THE smoothest voice!! He was an ANGEL and Bobby Caldwell and Al Jarreau had it too, no doubt about it ☀️😎👍🏼❤️🔥
David Pack had IT, too!! He sang for the band Ambrosia. Their hits are: How Much I Feel You're the Biggest Part of Me You're the Only Woman Holdin' On To Yesterday
I grew up on this song. From my parents jamming this song on the way to school, for family cookouts, new years eve parties, and only found out dude wasn't black JUST THIS MONTH in 2021!!!
My brother, thank you for this reaction. As others pointed out, almost _everyone_ assumed Bobby was black. I can even remember seeing a live performance of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with Vanessa Williams once and thinking “That can’t be Bobby Caldwell, that’s a white dude…” 🤣
Don't feel bad... I'm white and I thought he was black too. I just found out last year and I've been listening to this song for 50 years, imagine my shock!!
I like your sincere reaction. I also like that you did your reaction outside. I can see the life behind you, green trees, the houses of your neighbors, driving cars. It's so nice.
Yes, I remember when this song came out and got huge air play on both “pop” and “black stations”…and lots of award nominations…everyone thought Bobby was black…he’s just so smooth and got that famous style and tone that many of the greatest black recording artists were famous for…happily Bobby is still alive and performing too, at least that was what I’ve heard.
I pray that God blesses you with a wive that is just as beautiful and kind as you are. Even though I can tell you are an introvert you still shine so brightly from within in these videos and I always smile watching them.
Soul knows no colour. Bobby not only sings this song like he wrote it - he DID write it. And a whole bunch of other songs he wrote for famous Black R&B, Blues and Jazz artists. He was also a multi-instrumentalist - who played every instrument on this song. A lot of young Hip Hop artists sampled his tunes. He was a helluva Producer, too - and would occasionally wander into others' sessions. He showed up during one of Jon Benet's early sessions - and was very supportive. He was an amazingly kind and gentle man - with a prodigious talent. He will be so missed among his fellow players. RIP Bobby Caldwell. You were loved. PS - His first pro gig - was as the guitarist in Little Richard's band . . .
This came out just a couple of years before MTV hit the scene, so if you wanted to SEE your favorite artists, you had to watch _American Bandstand_ or _Midnight Special_ on the weekends. This guy went entirely under the radar. He was published by TK Records, a label that had some prominent black musicians in its stable, and the execs deliberately kept his image off the album cover to conceal his race. Apparently _Billboard_ magazine named him the "Best New Black Artist" in 1979, only to find out a few months later he wasn't actually black. LOL! Growing up in Miami, with his mom as a real estate broker, he became friends with Bob Marley, who was one of her clients. Recognizing his raw talent, Marley introduced him around, and helped him get started. The rest is history... ;-)
Great reaction! I’m white and I’m not offended that you thought he was black…🤣 This is proof that we’re all the same and need to come together as human beings.
My brother my wife and I have been married 38 years and we are sitting here in thethe dark watching your great reaction videos. I was waiting for the moment when you discovered he was white. 😂 Your look is priceless. Love your videos my man. Blessings to you.
Your reasons for loving this song are sweet and special. I love this song too. Just hang in there, you’ll find the one. Just don’t ignore red flags or deal breakers. People don’t change. Blessings for a bright future filled with love young man.❤
I'm old, and I've only met one woman in my entire life that made me do for love that I would not do. And she ended-up marrying someone else who barely did anything for her. A hard lesson about love.
It such a beautiful song, with beautiful lyrics and embracing every race! We need more love and understanding and care about each other! Love to all on this channel, and thanks for sharing your heart!
As soon as Bobby Caldwell left these reaction videos of how an entire generation only heard of him on radio surfaces and shocked to see his face and shocked to know there is an official music video of him started trending here.
Don't feel bad he fooled us all and I told him so on FB. He responded I know and thanks for the compliment. All my damn life this dude was black. I argued people down saying I'm a damn musician..I know what I hear...I was cold dead WRONG.
Hi know this is from a year ago but I really loved your reaction an the story of your grandparents, I was a kid when this song came out an I was also surprised he wasn’t black lol, it was also nice that you spoke of wanting that same type of love that he spoke about in the song an that your grandparents have. Thanks
Everyone thinks he is black until he reveals himself! I always just laugh and wait for the expressions!!
Rick Astley too. And the Bee Gees
Me too
Same! Comedy gold every time!
Sherry Brock the only word that should be black ppl's memory banks is SURPRISE!!!!!!!
Bobby Caldwell: my friends wonder what is wrong with me.
Friends: no we're wondering where the hell that voice came from.
I can’t!!!🤣🤣🤣
You are not the lone ranger. Everyone in the world thought Bobby Caldwell was black. This is one of the best songs ever. Great vibe and lyrics!!!!!!
I'm pretty sure bobby Caldwell thought bobby Caldwell was black.
Just looks in the mirror like " ayo the fuck".
Even back then when this song first came out, they tried to hide the fact that Bobby was even white and he could sing like that.
so true@@99thJediWarrior

Cracking me up over here...😁
MINE TOO! AND I'M WHITE! I was today years old when I found out this song was sung by a white dude! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A lot of people thought Bobby was black. Soul has no color. This is one of my favorite songs of all. :-)
Tina Marie, Rightous Brothers, Simply Red and a few more.
I wasn't offended at all. I thought it was hilarious and I loved your reaction when you saw he was white.
I love anytime we see a "He's White?!" reaction to Bobby Caldwell
A lot of black RUclipsrs thought the Bee Gees were black too btw.
I'm 60 years old...this was my jam and your reaction is HILARRRRIOUS 😂.
I'm sorry you didn't know, man!!😂😆🤣🤣🤣🤣
For 40 years I thought Bobby Caldwell was black!! What a great song!
Bobby has just passed away. May God comfort Bobby's loved ones.
Your grandparents never told you because it doesn't matter.
They probably though he was black too.
@@jondishmonmusicandstuff2753 naw naw, the grandparents know. For sure
Greatest comment ever!!!
They on purpose didn't tell anyone about his ethnicity and on the radio no one knew.
Thank you!

Everybody gangsta till Bobby Caldwell come out the shadows.

Ii know, right???
Blue-eyed soul greatness. Bobby has soul.💙
A lot of white soul singers have brown eyes. Haven't come across one yet who didn't hate the term "blue eyed soul."

Literally the second I saw the title I started giggling because I know what's about to happen.Who knew Indiana Jones could sing.

You should see his first live performance of this song. Looks like he came straight from a Nascar race.
Bobby also plays 2 instruments in this song & does his own background vocals.😊

I loved the song and I am a white guy and of course I thought it was a Black Dude.
