When Skizz mentioned the Forklift Certification for Costco, as a current forklift operator for Costco, it is 40 hours in training outside the store with a trainer present before you can enter the store with the machine, then another 40 hours inside/outside the store driving before you can be evaluated for the final sign off. So he went through 80+ hours of training just to ensure the correct items were dropped for his peeps to stock. Which solves problems that shows up once or twice a week.

Being entertained or making others laugh doesn't have to be just for bad times or bad days. Most of the times it's just comforting in general and everyone needs something to feel happy about. Regardless of their previous mood. I just think you mention it a whole lot and it feels like it's a requirement to need cheering up in order to watch and enjoy happy videos.

Awww. Don’t feel like that. Everyone is welcome to enjoy, of course! But the fact that their form of entertainment actually does help peeps balance the bad times gives them added incentive to continue. Like, its not “just” fun, its helpful, too. Everyone in the community learned how important they are during the pandemic, and it was an epiphany. They’re still trying to get used to the idea, really. ❤

I had the same job Impulse had! Mine was at a standalone Pizza Hut though. He's right the pizza disks were just like cardboard. You would put oil on the pans ( like a ton of oil ) and then the pizza then put it in the proofer (the big hot closet basically) and then when they're done you would make the pizza itself. My favorite part of the job was making the pizza boxes and cutting the pizza. On my last day at that job I sprained my wrist taking a pizza out of the roller oven though because they would make us take out the pizza using these weird types of tongs and if the pizza was large then they were pretty heavy. Anyway, good times!

Remember there are sooo many job boards, if you’re only using one you’re not seeing all the jobs available. Get out, drive around, see what businesses are around you, write names. Even go into reception, there, and ask how to apply, and at least find out where they post their jobs. Go on the company websites for those you are interested in to find out what they’re looking for, maybe links to click directly to whatever board they are using. All the best of luck to you. ❤

My first job was at a craft store and I befriended the old ladies who worked there to pay for their shopping addiction. One of them (Cathy) was kinda scary at first, but eventually she warmed up to me. On my last day of the job, my manager was being rude about me leaving, even though I had repeatedly told him I needed to end at that time. I was on the brink of tears. Then Cathy came over and scolded him. It was still a hard day, but it felt good to have someone like Cathy stand up for me.

Great episode and loved hearing your journies through the professional world. I'm currently in my mid-20's (graduated college at the beginning of the pandemic) and a year after lockdown I was able to land a respectable job in my industry about 8 years earlier than I should have, bypassing a lot of climbing.
Unfortunately, the pay was still not good (issue of the industry itself), but the job itself was VERY satisfying and self-fulfilling. While I'd be happy there forever, I need an income I can survive on. So I actually started talking to my boss about doing more, earning more, and showing them that I can do more with my degree.
I am now in training to start a new position (same job but new WFH responsibilities) with the same company with a significant payrise, and things are looking positive and my name is being passed around the industry in good light.
Hearing stories like yours really helps me understand you don't know where life will lead, but the best you can do is work with what you have and climb from there. No one knows where they'll be in 20 years, but best make the most of it.

My big show was jumping from a vanilla inventory control career, to becoming a corporate representative in an 800,000 square foot automated distribution facility to insure that seasonal and non-basic product made it into 1,250 stores.
The learning curve was brutal, the pressure from corporate and facility management was a constant from both sides, and it was nice to see that after years of heat and pressure, I became a small diamond there. skizz, your story about spinning the little kid too fast gives me an opportunity to thank someone from a long time ago. i went to the exhibition and got on the Rotor where they spin you very fast, sucking you into the wall and then drop the floor. i was wearing a suede coat and it got stuck to the wall and didn't slide down at all. my neck was getting bent at a painfully uncomfortable angle and i was really scared it was gonna break. i caught the operator's eye and, after s few seconds, he decided i was really scared and stopped the ride early. i was relieved and just stumbled out of there without thanking him - i've often wished i had.
so... dear rotor operator - thank you so much for seeing the fear in my eye and stopping the machine.
ps) love hearing about both of your comp sci jobs :)

Having different jobs builds yourself an archive of knowledge. I started working at the age of 11, on different farms, worked on an agriculture farm, worked as a mailman, moving company, guitar store, and more. I ran through close to 30 jobs before I landed where I am today. "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one."

My greatest regret is focusing on grades and not trying for a job until after college. Zero stamina

@@theoriginalkimerli I started working in agriculture, so I could get my degree, but that company literally screwed me and I left. I got a degree in 2016 in logistics, thnx to my current work place. Yet never needed any degree. I was let go of so many times due to downsizing and company bankrupt. Don't waste time you don't have.

I would love to see a podcast episode about your wives, if they are comfortable being talked about. Whenever you mention them I like sensing the vibe about how you appreciate them, and I would 100% watch you guys (and Tango) talk about all the reasons your wife is your Person, what you love about them, find interesting about them, how they're similar to you, how they challenge you, what your approach to relationships is, when you met, what attracted you to them, what your goals are in your relationship at the moment, what your philosophies on relationships and family are generally. I think you'd have some interesting things to say!

I’m glad were back to the duo (imp and skizz)! I love the guest but I feel like recently the podcast has leaned more heavily into always having new guest. It’s the imp and skizz podcast but it’s felt like the imp and skizz + guest podcast. With our without guest this podcast is great and i hope we get more of this duo back.
