  • Fender Amplifier Channel Selection Pedals for Hot Rod Deluxe, Hot Rod Deville, Blues Deluxe Amplifier and more
This video is a re-cut/edit of a video I made in 2010. I have updated the clarity, sound and cut out all the bits it didn't need,
Fender amplifiers sound great when they are cranked! ‎

There is a third footswitch: Fender Assy PN 71359000 (2 Button FM65DSP/Super-Champ XD Footswitch). That has CHANNEL select and EFFECT select. It works very well on the SCXD amp. It might be compatible with the SCX2, but I do not know for sure and have not tried it. Be aware that this footswitch has a mono cable/plug and therefore probably draws a set switching current from the amp to operate each mode. These switching currents might be unique to each amp, hence the variety of footswitches available from Fender.

Hey Shane, I know this is an old post but I just bought a fender blues Deville 4 x 10 without a foot switch so well that switch with the Reverb work? Thanks for your help in advance,

The blues deluxe switch should be the same as the blues deville. They are basically the same amp minus the extra speakers.

The Fender footswitchs are annoying.. I did a mod on my hotrod footswitch so it could be switched with the relays in my effects unit.
Very simple, one less pedal out the front and the footswitch can still function in its own right..

please share how you did this … can you differentiate drive vs. more drive modes?

Essentially you’re hijacking the function of the switches in the foot pedal via midi controlled relays.. like most midi controllers and effects units like the tc Gmaj have on board..
But not as simple as it seems.. found it quite strange that the foot switch could have 3 functions coming from 2 wires.. and after inspecting the foot pedal circuit found it had lots of diodes.. meaning it’s a voltage/current switch.. not just a strait up close the contact kind of switch..
Clean to dirty is easy as you are just closing the switch contacts.. to which I soldered two wires from the contacts to a trs socket (drilled an extra hole on the side of the pedal and installed a socket..)
The drive/more drive is a bit trickier.. actually switched via diodes so it’s a voltage switch rather than a simple switch.. but I followed the same concept being that you’re closing a switch.. so found the contacts that when shorted turned on more drive.. soldered two wires on the contacts of the switch..
both switches share a common ground, so a trs was sufficient (not much room inside the enclosure so you have to find just the right spot to install it so it doesn’t touch other components..
potential issues arise when switching between drive/more drive.. now I didn’t want to remove the actual switches from the circuit.. so shorting the switch to turn on more drive means that both drive and more drive are engaged at the same time.. after some time using the pedal this way, I found the amp was starting to flicker rapidly between drive and more drive.. the issue was the ceramic resistors on the amp circuit we’re getting really hot.. as one of them is part of the switching circuit.. and unfortunately fender solder them both right to the board.. and they were literally cooking the board and frying the traces.. so I had to raise them up (so they could breathe) and rebuild the traces on the board.. pain in the butt.. to avoid the problem happening again and potentially doing more damage down the track, from then on I didn’t really use that function.. and defaulted to using a tube screamer for that “more drive” or kept more drive on and used a tube screamer to substitute for the normal drive mode via the clean channel..
I suspect completely removing the switches from the foot pedal board and using midi switches to do the job would be a safer option.. but I wanted to be able to use the foot switch in a normal way also.. (wanted my cake and wanted to eat it too).. and removing the switches completely would mean you’d need an extra external switch as I believe from memory the drive/more drive is a triple pole double throw switch.. and you’re switching in and out different diodes..
So I keep the foot pedal tucked away in the back of the amp (there should be a Velcro strap for it in the back).. made up a smaller patch cable to run from the pedal to the amp. And then ran the TRS cable from the pedal to whatever you’re using to control them.. (I rigged my rack fx unit so it was held on the back of the amp and then the only cables coming from the amp was the midi cable from FX unit to floor controller and my lead..
Shoot me your email address and I’ll happily send you some pictures..
