I thought it was a solid album. Caustic was an all timer for me and really represented the vibe I enjoy most out of sludge, doom, and black metal - that being real bottom level of hell type shit. Immersion didn't quite meet my high expectations, but I'm always down for some massive sludgy riffs. I think I'd also rate it around a 7/10 As a side note, I really miss the vocalist's side band Vermin Womb. They put out a filthy monster of a debut and then broke up. Really a shame Edit: Apparently Vermin Womb might still be a thing!
Vermin Womb is back and active with a new bassist. I saw them last year at the Blood Incantation release show. They’re working on new material and it sounds N U T S.
@@southerndiscomfort171 that's a great dissection/deconstruction of your average commentary section from any of the Needledrop's video review uploads. I must say, however, that you did not have to say that the only way we could be funny is committing a hate crime.
Dynamic and diverse, much more noisy than Caustic, but not nearly long enough. Part of the appeal of long-winded, intentionally atmospheric and extremely dense doom/sludge releases--especially one with funeral doom metal influences--is the long-tail tension that's built in how crushing they present the material. Caustic's one of my favorite releases because of just that. The ability to weigh down on your soul like an anchor and siphon you all the while was like very few other releases of its kind. Immersion's still super solid, albeit different. I gave it a 7/10 as well and that's a perfectly fair score. Not nearly as perfect, but still very much an experience worth having in 2020. (Not to mention it encapsulates the current year perfectly lmao)
Good album. A slight step down from Caustic, but still P//M doing what they do best. I'd probably be in love with this if I hadn't already heard Caustic.
"My thoughts on this song are slowly turning into vore, so I think I'll move on to the next track." Anthony, this sounds like one of those meme quotes everyone says about you, but this is real.
Full Of Hell is probably one of the best extreme metal bands to come out in the 2010’s. Fantano doesn’t really care for them that much but he admires them
A wrestler named Tommy End ( the former Aleister Black) talked about Primitive Man and that got me into Death/Black Metal and more of that type of alternative music. Although Primitive Man is still not my cup of tea, I appreciate it more and the two bands you recommended are really dope. Edit: could y'all give any suggestions for a noob like me in these genres to listen to and then some more advanced stuff?
Ethan said in an interview something along the lines of this album being more direct and to the point, cutting out anything they deemed unnecessary. Still thoroughly enjoy the hell out of this album and love scaring my co workers with it :)
This is maybe the most foul and crushing metal band on the planet. If you are looking for more like this (or maybe a more palatable entryway into sludge metal) check out early Eyehategod, Crowbar, and especially The Melvins. Great review here Melon!
Hell yeah! Definitely also have to throw out Full of Hell if someone wants the abrasive noise elements but just faster and more extreme. Nails is also a good example of a very noisy band if the slowness of Primitive Man isn't something people like, lol.
If you're looking for something about AS palatable as Primitive Man, i also recommend "From All Purity" by Indian. Another incredible take on the sludge/harsh noise sound
Could be that they're running into Anaal Nathrakh's early problem - Where do you go when you've gone as far as is reasonably possible without just rehashing the same old sounds over and over again. Much of the time bands seems to cap out on extremity and then mix it in with more melody in follow-up material.
This is my general feeling also. A solid, if somewhat unambitious second helping of some of the heaviest doom/sludge music on the planet. The first two thirds of this thing are really good and have a lot of wild and nasty moments but you can feel momentum being lost on the final leg and I feel like PM need to shake up their sound for their next outing or they'll wind up sounding sort of tired and worn out.
Seen em live and they do in fact crush. The singer/guitarist is a hulking dude with dreads and patches all over. Kinda crust punk, yet when you meet him he's actually the sweetest guy. Such a stark contrast from the music lol
I’ve seen this band three times and they are the heaviest thing on this planet. you should educate yourself on heavy music more before you make foolish claims.
