How to apply plastic auto body filler

- This is just a DIY, the area has been fiber glassed and now is ready for filling with auto body filler, you can use short strand fiberglass to level out the area but the down sides are it is a lot harder to sand down and is twice as expensive, body filler is the way to go to cut cost.
i have almost worked as a car painter for one year in denmark, and with good grades, been removing rust, recreating forms of bodykits painted and stuff like that, and this this is my opinion: hes techniqes are good, not as it "should be" done. and not something worth paying more than a couple of beers for.. but i mean.. if he just want it to look OK for a year more, then this IS the way to go! too much effort to do it pro for an old car:) in my opinion.. :) love to see how people do stuff, so good video! btw kurt, you only need to add 2-4% hardener, but ofcourse 6% is making it faster, just keep in mind that too much hardener reduces the chemical "quality" of the product, and way too much hardener CAN actually make it undryable.. trust me! i have seen it myself ;)
Thanx for the vid! I did this on my 84' ranger and it worked perfect. Yes yes yes I know all of the know it alls are going to say I'm an idiot and Kurts a hack. Blah blah. It's a great way to temporarily fix spots or for an older vehicle you don't want a bunch of rust spots popping out at you. I painted my truck flat black after this and it looks fine. Should hold up a few years until I drop it off at the junkyard and wipe my hands clean. Thanks again Kurt!
There are a lot of haters out there.everyone is saying he shouldn't do this or that way.But most of the professional does the same thing just a little bit better and charge you a arm and a leg for it.Kurt keep doing what you are doing not everyone have 1000 to 1200 to give away to some of these so call professional paint shops.
People helping people. That's what he's doing! Thanks again Kurt!!
Ilocos repair can help poor people like me!.Thank's very much man great job.
Thank you very much for your time and good will to help people who are not rich enough to pay others to do a job ...
Great job right there,i dont care what anyone says, and I'll bet you its gonna last a long time, thats what its all about anyway,SAVING MONEY and HELPING others when you can...

Now 9th and a bowl of fruit
I appreciate the work that went into making this video. Thanks!
I painted my 1987 chevy G20 short body (Scooby Doo type van) with a roller and paint brush. Had to cover the rust. I do have some patching to be done. This was good advice.
Strange things is I have people constantly asking me if I want to sell it. I'll get a 12 pack of Pabst in the bottles and get to work. 🤪
Great work done. I am a welder so I have learnt a lot from you. Thanks
Great video brother! It's really incredible what you can do with resins, body filler and a little elbow grease! It came out looking amazing! We just did a super similar video on a fiberglass bumper this week! Thanks for sharing your experience and keep em coming!
Very helpful. I actually want to try some of your techniques on some cool old metal furniture I was given. Thanks!
thanks for this video. it helped me decide to repair the rust on my 87 honda myself. very helpful!
👍-Good work, Fast & Cost effective -
Sure you could cutout the rust & shape & fit metal patches to weld, but if u dont have the right equipment or expertise - this is a good way to go- if it isnt a Show Car- Thanx
So awesome. Can't wait to go out and start working on my car!
Not too shabby for a diy home repair. Want it done professionally? Go to a body shop. Want to just patch an old car? This guy's fix will probably suffice. Everyone commenting about what a hack he is can go home now.
Such a relaxing and soothing voice!
Most Interesting I love Your different Concepts for Body Work!!
This videos are awesome! Inspiring me to fix a rust patch in the trunk, and maybe even give a go at DIY fiberglass fenders ha ha!
Well done Kurt, nicely explained and without all the chatter !
I'm glad you mentioned your interest in Solar panels and alternative energy projects- my
real interest in learning about. I'll look for those videos later- I'm excited to see what you've done there.
Cheers, Don.
I'm doing complete rust out on dodge fenders. Turning out great.
Its always best to apply small amounts at a time that way u uniform the job better without waisting product, but damn good job man.. thumbs up!
i agree, its like mixing clay in art class, if you dont get the bubbles out of the clay there goes the kilm, boom!
Hey man,
When mixing the body filler, you shouldn't swirl it. You may mix it faster that way, but you are also trapping air in your filler. The problem with that is after it dries, there will be pin holes in the body filler that will look terrible after painting.
One thing about rust, if u don't cut out all the rust, no matter what u do, it will come back, so make sure u cut it all out
I wouldn’t be worried so much about a collision with this type of repair, let’s face it, a car that old and rusty will get lower crash test results whether the fiberglass is there or not. I would be concerned about a tech trying to use that rocker corner to jack the car up, only to have it crash through or fall off of a rack. But without the safety concerns, good craftwork!!
what happens is you put too much hardener try less it makes it smoother
I am looking forward for the moment when i can apply this method on my car. But I dont have a car for now.
Thanks for the video,, iv got some to do on my superbike. Your video has really helped me.. Top man
This is juste me saying. A cheese grader take to much off. I've found out when it's time to cheese grade take forty gritt knock it all down quick before it completely dries. Then once dry complete take eighty gritt and sand forty scratches out. Once forty scratches are gone stop. Feather edge edes then stop. Then primer. Once primed then icing. Once icing is dry completely sand with 150. Takes a bit but outcome is great. But to each his own. Still great info on the wax paper.
Nice video, as was the fiberglassing one too. Almost have enough courage to work on my Rustarado, if I can afford the amt of Bondo it's going to take. They should make it inflatable for those massive holes on the back corners of the cab. Let's see, fiberglass, cheese grater, cheese, plastic filler, and wine.
Looks good my friend!!!
when ur mixin filler do not do the circlein thing u do it create airbubbles
great stuff Kurt, I subbed to you I'm a fan already.
ur good at wat u do tho man thanks for taken time to make a vid
Thanks for posting the vid. Ignore the negative comments.
thanks man,you inspired me
Thanks for the helpful video
It is a great video. May I know what adhere materia you were using (the blue stuff) Thanks.
I liked that video alot, I am trying to repair some rust spots on my jeep yj, never done it b-4, so thought I would watch some vedio's. I am learning as I go. If it is done right, how long would that last like say on a jeep.? If it would last a couple of years would be great. Thanks. (opie)
very good videos. can you tell me the exact material you used to earlier to cover the fiberglass cloth and the one you are using now? thank you
wax paper, I guess...
Well done man!
U helped me out alot
great job my man soo great job
Good job keep it men !!!
that file looks difficult to work with. is that the best way or should you use a rubber block with sandpaper?
nice video but many of us do not have those power tools
Repairo fantastico!!!!!!
I am about to have this same job done on my car.
If you used less hardener it would still garden but you would have more time to work with it
Thanks for sharing the video 5 stars
Good Job!
How much does it cost to buy all supplies ?
Polishing the turd.... better than a big hole.
thnks for the post!
hey guys just wondering anyone could help me ? After i fill my rusted metal with body filler is it okay to apply Anti rust undercarriage ?
can you use the wax paper idea for body filler?
Thank you for the video way easy thx budy
what is the green stuff u put before the bondo? please
people are going to think applying body-filler is easy after watching you apply it!!lol
Please don't tell people this is the way to fix rust ! This video should be used as a "HOW NOT TO DO IT !"
Your volume is too low. hard to hear without ear buds.
Use a drywall hand sanding sponge
More good tips and helptul hints
you can't apply more material if you have not sanded the material underneath it ...
The guy says it s not a permanent fix, so why does everyone keep posting negative comments?
lets see you do it STEVE KINGSTON!!
Agreed. Also, your "legal Safety inspection in canada" statement is incorrect. Road safety inspections in Canada and mandated by the province you reside and some don't even have any! Furthermore, how the hell are they going to know once it's painted?? Stop commenting on stuff YOU know nothing about, ass clown. It's an OLD car and a DIY repair.
bluebellbus70 Well said.
Leepu would be realy jealous
your awsom
its fiberglass.
I've seen way worse results from 'professionals'....this is ok for a vehicle thats only worth a couple of hundred bucks.
see in the first vid he said its for his personal car and he would never sell the car to anyone and for a 1000 to 1500$ car i would not spend 500 bucks to buy a welder so i can make a job that will last 10 years on a car that will probably only run 2 more years then get junked the job he did would last a few years no problem
after 2 years everything falls apart
hate that scraping noise when he mixes it :S
duddes this takes to long for this kind of repair! you could of simply cut the rust out and just weld some sheet meta on there ! It is to long for this kind of repair ! again only just my opinion !
you are going to see cracks in the paint right after exposing to heat because of the deference in expanding ratios.
jo baby jo baby jo !
maybe you already HAVE.
you are batman ? :))
Harden*
he can't filler at all he putting it on stink
you better keep your day job...
leute verarschen der hat kein wissen tut mier leid
man at least clean your dirty mixing board thats got to be the worst contaminated mixing board i have ever seen
fail. when you see the "suggested" amount of hardner put in the filler that's when you should realize this dudes inexperienced.
I am wondering if he intends to actually drive this car after repairing a key structural member with fibreglass and Pon!
About 90% of the effort to do it correctly but with 0% of the quality. 😂🎉
Sisyphus
These comments make me laugh.... Every 16 yr old apprentice panel beater thinking they know the shit like they have 30yrs experience under there belt. Its only fkn body filler and the obviously he uses that board for mixing so why the fuk would it be a clean brand new board
JAJAJAJAJAJAAJA
der hat keine ahnung nur blöd
you need a lesson on how to do this.....
I used to use a "cheese-grader" on the flat surfaces and 80 grit sand paper in the curves and valleys to knock down the high spots.
Misleading Title. Title should be Patching a rust hole in your car with fiberglass. These types just love to get views, they're not interested in teaching how to do things the RIGHT WAY
