In this video, I install the ORBIT 3 Valve unit. Model number 57253 . These are the jar top valves. The black part is the solenoid. Rather than try to repair my old system I opted to install a whole new one. I'm glad I did. I had no trouble with it at all. It was a very simple and clean installation. Just to let you know, the part of the video where I put grease on the o-rings is my idea and not part of the instructions. If you have any questions just ask.

I am very appreciate for people like you who take time out of your day to explain things to a complete novice and someone you don't even know like myself. You also go out of your way to explain things in such a way that a child could understand. Thanks!
Adam! This is the best tutorial I've seen. Thank you for not skipping the "Easy" parts that most of us novices aren't aware of. Thank you!
Dude thank you so much! Im going to do this for my grandma, she’s old and can’t water her plants anymore. And I can brag to my friends about it in school!! 💪
Your super cool man “no sarcasm “ I really mean that.
I'll help ya Dallas Tx
WONDERFUL EXPLANATION!!!! ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS I NEVER SAW BEFORE. I have been working as an electrician for 35 years, some people ask me if I know some of sprinklers systems, I didn't know that it was so easy. Today I did my home sprinklers system for the first time and your explanation was so accurate and clear. Now I have a couple of neighbors who want me to do the work of sprinklers. TANK YOU ..... BEST OF THE BEST.
Great video. Couple things to note in PVC. PVC is interference fit so after you apply cement be sure to hold the fittings on the pipe. What's actually happening is the PVC is melting together. Apply a liberal amount of cement to the pipe and then apply a thin layer of cement to the inside of the fittings. Awesome video!
Thank you so much for being so thorough. We just bought a house with a similar system but we don't understand anything since we are first time homeowners. We also know we have to repair the pipes through the system since some leak, cause puddles, some don't turn on, etc. Thank you for helping me understand what I have.
Thank you Adam, I really appreciate your patience. This helps everybody to understand how this device can be used at home or at work.
Thank you for this Adam! Did the install today and it came out A1.
6 years later - greetings from 2021 lol. I'm extending my irrigation system to the back yard and bought a cover box and 3 rain bird valves expecting to make a PVC manifold. Stumbled across this Orbit 3-valve manifold at Menards and it was a no brainer. It costs only a few $ more than buying 3 bare valves and you get all the PVC parts as well! Unions alone would add $20 to the price of this thing. Nice watch - thanks!
Great tutorial. I like the clean install of the valve unit and the plastic enclosure. I'll be building our yard irrigation from scratch later this summer, so this video was helpful. I'll probably make my hole and valve enclosure extra long to allow for future expansion of more valves/zones. Thanks for the tutorial.
Did my install this past spring. Purchased two to make 6 zones and highly recommend.
This video was extremely helpful. One of my valves was leaking (fixed for now) but I am considering replacing the entire valve system. Much easier than I thought. Thank you for the clear explanation.
Adam, i was exactly looking for this guidance. clear explanation. great work, thanks for the video
It went in as cool as I thought from the online pics. This vid answered something that wasn't properly answered online specs I found, AC or DC.. Since it doesn't matter which wire you picked for common that sounds like AC . Good tutorial (I will be using the piece underneath with the cutouts already there...) Thank you very much.
The best tutorial for this yet. Now you need to show how to run the wires inside your garage.
Awesome video dude! Thank you for posting. I now have more confidence to compete this project
Excellent video, clear and concise instructions, I currently have a manual system. I'm replacing and installing the orbiter 3 valve system.
WOW! Excellent video! I'm confident in my decision to replace my system now. THANK YOU!
I'm in the process of having to upgrade my irrigation system and find your information very useful.
Just an F.Y.I. , I would be cautious using petroleum products [Vaseline, etc] on rubber gaskets as tends to degrade the rubber. A silicone base grease might be more appropriate.
I almost never comment or leave reviews unless I’m very impressed. Thank you very informative! Exactly what I was looking for !
great tutorial Adam. The best, simple and to the point. Thank you
Thank you for a well laid out plan and easy to follow instructions!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have the confidence to replace my valves.
Thanks for sharing. You have demystified the timer and automatic sprinkler system.
thank you for this video, really helped me a lot. cheers.
Adam, thank you so much for a clearly worded, step by step video. I believe you just saved me $800. I'm going outside to figure out which is the "com" wire. That seems to be my only question at this point. Again, awesome video. New subscriber for all my DIY projects (dozens in quarantine! LOL)
Excellent video. I love the thoroughness. Just what I needed. I’ve always heard to not use petroleum based lubricants like Vaseline on rubber o rings. Instead we should use a water soluble version like KY that doesn’t break down the rubber.
Good video! Very thorough but not exhaustingly exhaustive.
Thanks Adam, this was very helpful!
Yes, very helpful... Didn't use this kit, but it helped me with the wiring of my existing system.
Did u also leave the remaining 2 wires open like he did too?
Nice job thanks for the video!
Thank you for the detailed in-depth video.
Thanks man. You did a great job. I’m ready to do mine
Thank you so much for this very informative video! I am currently getting quotations for an automated irrigation system and I am getting astronomical figures!! Now I understand how it works and how inexpensive it actually is. This is FAB :)
Thank you for your time. The video was phenomenal and was installing 4 valve manifold system.
This video gave me a head start . Thank you!!!
thanks for sharing wisdom stay blessed respect from Kashmir
Thank you for helping us with our sprinkler! :)
Having seen this video my confidence level has skyrocketed. If this guy can do it anyone can!!!
Excellent presentation. Nice work. A big thanks to you.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing.
Now if you have one on how to find the valve system, that would be super 🙂
Good vid. I showed the kids what our unit looked like after we watched this one together.
This is extremely helpful. Thanks buddy.
Nice, thanks! I watched it from start to finish.
All useful, no filler. Good video
tks Adam helped us a ton
Just need to see how to install the real backflow oreventer, tie in to the actual water supply and wire up a control box...
Very helpful video. Thanks for uploading.
this was a very good presentation and well done, thank you
Thanks. Very helpful video.
Great video! Orbit is the ONLY? sprinkler valve maker that provides a ready made manifold + Unions for easy removal all for $50 is an amazing bargain. A few suggestions - better not to cut the box on top of the manifold as it strains the white pvc joints a lot. Also, the waterproof grease is silicone based - I use a tube of Faucet and Valve grease with an acid brush with the bristles trimmed in half to apply it. Great on electrical connections and for lubing o-rings, and on screw heads and threads to block corrosion. Also, better to trim the hole for the pipe in the valve box extra wide - protects the pipes if the box ever needs to be pried out to repair or extend system. Good to take a magic marker and label pipes & valves AND (wires with tags - eve though color coded makes it easier to work on valves without referencing the chart back at the box). Ex Valve "A1" "A2" etc the draw an arrow with flow - "A1 IN" , "A1 OUT" etc. Sand all connections before gluing PVC & use less cement - it can drip in to the pipe on the inside also excess cement is supposed to be wiped off as it can weaken the pipe. Put bricks under the box to add more space under the valves - easier to remove / install new valve. More room to work. Put gravel around the side of the box about 3/4 to the top, then lay fabric on top and cover with mulch.
this is really helpful. thanks
Really helpful video, thanks.
Wonderful, clear explanation. Thank you!
Good job, Adam!
Awesome! Thanks so much for the great tips!
I was strangling to installnit thank you i learn much from you
Nice work man!
Great job, thank you!
Very helpful, thanks!
A good rule of thumb is to make sure your poly line's rated 100psi or better. That said, I prefer poly for the outgoing zones, and hard pipe before the valves. The run through the vac-break is traditionally copper, as it's stronger and isn't affected by sunlight..
Poly ...god sent.....
Orbit is so great love there product
This is great, exactly what I was looking for.
It is very clear and easy to follow.
Thanks
Very helpful man thanks for your time
When i watch a video and the guy is the type a guy that i go through 8 employees to find...i just enjoyed watching good ole sprink work..thanks man....
Thank you for taking the time to share.
This was such a great video! Thank you! Would you be able to show what to do before the snowy winter season comes?
Hi. Thanks for the video. I just hooked an orbit timer to my orbit valves similar to yours. I have not hooked the water up yet but I did a dry run using "manual" to see if the valves would open (to see if the power was working). The valve made a continuous electric motor sound and there was no turning motion of the black knob on top. Is the black knob just for opening by hand? Is the continuous motor sound (quite loud) normal? I can't hook up the water right now because I have to take the long trip to town for more parts.
Great video! I always shove it deep until it touches the back.
jlb197736 I use a 1lb deadblow hammer.
Thank you very much. It is a very useful video. I have been wanting to do this.
Awesome video!! Thank you so much for a how to video on this sprinkler setup
😀The best video. The instruction is very clear. Thank you so much Adam
Beautiful garden sprinkle system. I am living in Malaysia, how can i buy the overall sprinkle system for the garden use. I want a fully automation system. Thank you for your video sharing.
What a helpful video thank you very much.
This is extremely helpful! I totally feel like I can do this now. My only question is about the other end of that wire...does it have a plug 🔌 on the end? Does it go into a timer? Does it need to be hardwired in? (How do I do that?!) and does it need its own fuse?
Thanks so much!
You helped me a ton!
Thank you for the video...very helpful. I am new and can i ask how deep should i barred the 1" pipe to the ground. I heard from 18"-2 feet. Any recommendations? also do you have a video to connect the control module? and how to connect the water supply?
Thanks Adam good video
This is an amazing training video. Are there large enough cover to for 8 manifolds? Do I need to use multiple covers?
Thanks for the video. It's very helpful. I didn't know if this question was asked or if it was covered in the video, but I see that open tube/pipe sticking out and it's exposed when you cover everything. Is that to help control flow of the water? Or is it for possible room for expansion of more sprinklers?
Thank you for your video! I have a question I have the same system but I need to reduce the pressure on one for my shrubs how do I do this? The drip tips keep getting blown off due to the pressure
Very useful. Thanks.
Oatey has a pvc primer/glue combo that works pretty well
Hi. What is up with the open PVC pipe facing the sky? The physics of it? Does one valve or access pipe need to be higher than the other valves? I'm fixing 9 valves and there is one valve that sets almost a foot higher than all other valves. I can't get that high valve to flow. Any ideas?
Thank you so much for your great video 👍👍👍
My new place had wire nuts outside the box with jell, and I wasn't sure if the box was some kind of control thing. This helped by showing it's nothing special.
Do you have a video with the next part... I mean on the Orbit sprinkler timer ?? thanks, regards from Chile.
Awesome video. I have a question though. Could you use pex tubing for all the connections after the solenoids that run to the sprinklers?
Thanks that was very helpful. To better understand the wiring. You have 3 stations. Each station goes for example, the first on trees, the second on flowers and the 3rd on vegetables? A 12 zone irrigation system can handle 12 stations?
Very informative and straight forward. TYVM!!!!!!
Is there a maximum distance you should put your valve manifold from where the actual sprinkler heads will be? I have a huge back yard and my main comes in from the rear of my back yard, and I'm putting grass in my front yard. Curious as to where I should put the manifold. Thanks for any help.
lol I have no clue why on earth Im watching this I have no idea but very helpful if I was working on this.
This was an awesome informational video!
One question... how did you tube out to the watering areas?
Great video! Does this system come in 3/4” since this is what I already have?
Hi, Now that this video is a few years old I was wondering if you had an update on the system. Is it reliable? any issues come up over the years ?
Nice video..I have a question..when a solenoid goes bad.do you need to cut the water presure off? in order to replace it .or can you do it with the water pressure on??
Yeah this was just what I needed great video
Adam I love the video, my question is that I have an older 4 individual stations in different part of my yard is it possible to change them them out with multi manifold to one area as you are showing in the video and if I do this will I need to replace all wiring and run new wiring and replace the pvc pipes when replacing the old valves in the individual zones?
"Laying your own Pip....uhhhh starting from scratch" hahhaha
He caught himself about to say it! It even funnier hearing him try to come up with another way to explain himself! Hilarious!
nice clear video thanks so much
Ewing sells rainbird valves for $16. You can unscrew the bonnet and leave the body in place. Done in 4 min and the probability of a leak is approx. 60 percent less.
FYI.... to cut and weld PVC takes an additional 6 min.
