He is not a criminal and as a man I was kicked up the arse when I was young and learned from everyone of them. Smithy was brave and faced the music. We respect that as well and what many expect is a better man to emerge from this. A better character and hopefully a better player. That what I expect from a young man not defeat. No Keegan, the thing is board will examine if any match fixing is involved, if this was been instigated by some crooked interested party, etc. That is the reason why incidents such as these will be examined and root cause analysis done. We live in extremely corrupt times, hence the hullabaloo across the world.

As an Englishman, a former umpire and a cricket fanatic I love to see the Australian team get a spanking on the pitch when playing England, but the three lads involved broke the rules and should be punished, but this is too harsh, I agree they should have been sent home from the series and Warner and Smith should have lost their captaincy roles for at least 12 months but to ban them from playing for a year is too much, we all make mistakes in life, what has been lost is 3 great players will not be entertaining the cricket world. His apology is clearly honest and heartfelt, it is never good to see a grown man so upset

I actually think CA has been quite canny with the 12 month ban, because while sounding like a huge punishment, they would not have been playing that much cricket in the next year anyway; a 6 month ban 6 months ago would have hit them harder.

This is an anomaly and in no way an indication of past stpoetsmanship by the Australians in all sports around the world. They are probably the cleanest players anywhere in the world and I come from Sth Africa. They have an excellent track record. I guess it’s this has Ben taken to badly in Australia. We should allow him to reconcile himself with reality and make amends for himself for future. Hopefully he will come out of this stronger and once again gets opportunity to represent his nation in his game. This will be a blot on his career probably which he can never wash away. In future, hopefully if he will make a comeback, there will still be some people who will hold this against him in his moment of glory. But he should not allow that to affect him. As they say - People who hold your past failures against you, are afraid of your successful present. Let's give this guy a break.

As a South African, hats off to you! You're taking it full-on! Unlike David Warner and, especially, Darren Lehman. Personally, I think it is a good thing that this happened, 'cause you and the team were getting pretty arrogant, cocky and overly confident! This will bring you down to earth and will hopefully not impact your cricketing ability too much! You're a crazy talented batsman and I truly hope that you can bounce back! Cricket lovers and players want the best to succeed! You look like a decent bloke and I am confident that this was just an error in judgement. It happens! Learn from it! He has done a lot not only for Australian cricket team but more for the world cricket. He has a devoted fan base in India although being an opponent. Our high regards and respect haven't reduced by a bit in spite of this controversy. We want him back in the playing Aussie squad ASAP. We want him in WC2019.
    An ardent Indian Stevie fan.

i disagree mate, u have to take some serious action so this sets an example for the future cricketers to never even think about cheating, had it been a one match ban, no-one would understand how serious is the mistake he had committed. Tampering of the ball has happened before, but it was the first time some player premeditated it, they knew that the quality of the bowl would worsen, so they brought sand paper with themselves, previous issues of bowl tampering were never thought out or basically planned.

Eros hey are you seriously a idiot the guy did a level two offence meaning the maximum ban should have been for 3 months and to guy that compares match fixing and tampering seriously bro are you from Pakistan I mean match fixing is you selling off it nation for money this is no where close to that

Not just the media, Australians are disgusted by this team. Deserves every day of it. Let down his nation, cricket and himself. He can come back once he's done his time.

@@kpverma2175 No it isnt, have a look at the ICC rules handbooks on their website. Just like bowlers are allowed to scuff footmarks to allow them to get better grip, pretty much all players are allowed to alter anything behind the crease line. Its not recommended, and its bad sportsmanship, thats why no one does it, but theres nothing saying you cant do it.
