Before anyone asks, yes. That is a CHOIR of heavy metal singers.
And, just like that, I´m searching for Heavy Metal Singers Choirs....
I still dream of that choir, hope someone else makes music with a heavy metal choir again

More precisely, Choir of Heavy Metal Singers who are also fans of DooM since the MS-DOS era. Yep. Mick Gordon wanted it.
KAR EN TUK!
"It almost feels like the chainsaw"
Fun fact, apparently one of the instruments Mick Gordon used for the soundtrack was an ACTUAL chainsaw.
If i remember correctly he didn't use a chainsaw for this one. He did use a lawn mower tho
It was the chainsaw sound effect of the original DOOM.
The lawnmower however was an actual lawnmower.
Wasn't the soundtrack Hellwalker? Or this one too?
@@ImmortalChanger he used a chainsaw on Hellwalker and cultist base. He also used the lawnmower at the end of cultist base. Funnily enough, I also asked David Levy, one of the DLC composers if he used any funny instruments. Immora uses a goddamn electric toothbrush.

lets fucking GOOOOOOO!
Doom's combat OST really emphasizes the developer's game design philosophy of "You're not locked in a room full of demons, they're locked in a room with you."
Damn boi that was how it feels actually in game like they're not destroying the earth but you're destroying them
A reviewer once pointed out, insightfully, that the introduction of the Imp in 2016 Doom is it panicking on seeing you and screaming in terror before trying to flee. The Demons are fighting for their lives against something out of a slasher movie, and that's exactly how it should be.
@@Sorain1 Well, the thing is that for hell, doomslayer its pretty much the boggy man...except this isnt just a tale made to scare missbehaving imps but a being of flesh and blood hell bent on destroying every single one of their kind with the outmost rage and brutal pain inducing metod available...

To me the fact a "drop" never actually comes in this song just perfectly convey the idea that THE SLAUGHTER NEVER STOPS!
However, the beginning build of up this kind of does have a drop, which wasn’t shown in this video but is in the full song.
@@pickledapplez that buildup is the Slayer loading his Super Shotgun and checking his gear before jumping in the pit
@@pickledapplez it's not the full song, it's just a different arrangement of it that did have that buildup. There's a combined version out there if you're curious, since the official release has way better mixing and isn't all scrambled and weird
There are like 3 different drops lol fym
That's because DOOM has no beginning and never ends. DOOM is ETERNAL.
I love with most other songs, you can kind of tell the entire story of a character from their music. With DOOM, the entire song is just "G U N".
More like "unbridled rage and wrath"
"LOCAL SPACE MARINE LITERALLY TOO ANGRY TO DIE"
@@iraqiwalker1436 More like "Rip and Tear, until it is done"
Not "G U N"...."H A T E"
That said, slightly surprised at this point that Marco didn't say something like "this really gives me the vibe of someone who's just intensely angry, like somebody killed his... pet bunny or something, and he's out for revenge."
"They *are* rage. Brutal. Without mercy. But you... You will be worse. Rip and Tear, until it is done."
"May your thirst for vengeance never quench. May the blood on your sword never dry. And may we never need you again."
"In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one stood. Burned by the embers of Armageddon, his soul blistered by the fires of hell and tainted beyond ascension, he chose the path of perpetual torment.
In his ravenous hatred, he found no peace, and with boiling blood, he scoured the umbral plains, seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him.
He wore the crown of the Night Sentinels, and those who tasted the bite of his sword named him...
The Doom Slayer."
“Against all the evil that Hell can conjure, all the wickedness that mankind can produce, we will send unto them only you. Rip and tear, until it is done.”
If you liked this stuff, you have to watch Mick Gordon's GCD on how he did the DOOM 2016 ost. Incredible lecture.

"It's like the chainsaw"
Funny you say that, since Mick Gordon has a tendency to use working tools as sounds in his music. Examples are a chainsaw and a lawn mower.
EDIT: I do believe the thing you described as "bwwoah bwoah bwoah bwoah bwaaooow bwaow bwow bwoah" is in fact a chainsaw
don't forget the Blender and Hemi V8

I thought he only used the chainsaw for the DOOM 2016's soundtrack Hellwalker

@@moonboy8552 IIRC Cultist Base is the one with the lawnmower. But what is a lawnmower if not a chainsaw for grass?
the thing about it is that Mick Gordon created his own instrument to create the music for doom 2016 and eternal. the man is a genius

@@MarcoMeatball Music is music. Monkey brain likes harmonious sounds even if they try to sound discordant.
Lol mate. One word - Nightwish XD
Mick Gordon has essentially created a new subgenre of metal, that has kneecapped and torn apart Metal. The subgenre exuded such pure rage and focused hate that it has become the true metal. Its so metal its about to supernova a star.
This might be your first exposure to it but (not to take away from the excellent execution) mixing industrial influences with electronic, rock and metal has been mainstream for 25+ years at this point.
@@rabid_si doom eternal ost sits in a funny mix of different sub genre, it has the guitar sounds of groove metal, the synthesizers of industrial metal, and finally a hint of djent. It truly is a unique blend of sub genre that people are taking to calling it… Argent Metal!
@@rabid_si yeah the concept has been around for a long time (NIN actually got in on the soundtrack to one Doom game iirc) but Mick's specific execution is so unique. Everything about it is fine-tuned so precisely to create this exact specific sound. He takes metal and treats the mixing like it's EDM, and then uses shit way heavier than either genre usually has
@@uncroppedsoop Not Doom but actually Quake Trent Raznor created most of the Ambient and Sound effects, he also was the Sound Designer for Doom3 but saddly left the project with non of his stuff making it inside the game
@Rabid_Si if you enjoy this and other complex melodic structure I highly recommend and I MEAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND Master Boot Record it's Victorian chord structure with Heavy synth blended seamlessly with metal
The modern wave of classical music has adopted the electric guitar more and more throughout the years. Doom OST's are basically modern classical music in a few years. 🕰
You know what?
I'm totally OK with this, rock on
Definitely need to check out the heavy metal choir pieces from Eternal.
Twenty people chanting “Kar En Tuk” is an amazing sound
I absolutely love that with absolutely no knowledge of the phrase RIP AND TEAR, his first gut feeling was that this song makes you want to mimic ripping and tearing. I'd say Mick Gordon hit it right on the head...
If I’m not wrong that literally is a chainsaw turned into a synth to make some of those sounds
I think chainsaw was from 2016, and this one is a blender which is even funnier
Chainsaw was 2016, This one has a synthesised Blendtec Blender
@@dyroth that's weird, I heard the one in "the only thing they fear is you" is a lawn mower.
Hoo boy... Our best opera man is diving headfirst into the Argent Metal (sub)genre. Best get ready for wrecked ears and blown minds! XD
Anyway, I definitely agree with your initial assessment - metal in general carries with it imagery of sheer, visceral power. "Rip and Tear until nothing is left," indeed... What I would say, though, is that there's also an undertone of intelligence, which makes sense because the Doomslayer is still a man - a man hell-bent on revenge, but a thinking, planning man who knows the best way to kill demons and how to do it quickly.
Focused Rage
"You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars!"

In game thera are many signs of his humanity remaining
In doom 2016, after awakening he checks for casualities first, before hayden locks him out
Before destroying vega core, he backs "him" up.
This is probably as close as you can get to something that would make demons wake up at night in cold sweat
Sheer overwhelming power, love to hear it
After listening to it you don't exactly feel like working out, rather that you already have
Mick: time to make some metal
random house tools: my time has come
I love the facial expressions when it subverts expectations. You can feel the buildup... then theres a pause, and the exact expression from a horror movie of "Oh god... its right behind me, isnt it?"
Listening to that part at 8:32, I can't help but picture the Slayer on top of his pile of demons, intimidating all of hell from it's new tallest mountain. I think it's that kind of dense sonic imagery that's all over this album that makes it so special, it sort of forces that kind of imagination out of your brain.
I listen to this part of the song a lot when I do really heavy lifts and in my imagination it’s shows a character. Who has endured so much and now has finally unlocked a new level of power. But the power is so vast that it becomes painful and almost overwhelming in how brutal this power can be. Especially with this segment going for a whole minute it can make you feel like this feeling is endless.
This song makes me want to donate someone else's blood
😂😂😂 someone else's blood. Awesome!! Yes by rip n tear the demon horde will be donating their blood
"I'm here to donate some blood... Someone else's."
I'm glad to see that you've chosen the original version (not the merged stuff which is higher views) to react. Wise decision there, I see. Hope you enjoy this banging track and even more with Doom Soundtracks. May I suggest some of the best of Doom's theme, such as Super Gore Nest, or BFG Division?
Also, have a nice day, Sir!
Fun fact: Mick used both a chainsaw and a lawnmower to create some of these crazy sounds
Somehow Mick Gordon makes buildups feel like drops of their own
I love this song so much. The aggressive feel of it always gets my heart going. I feel like sadness and anger are opposites in a way in that sad, more beautiful songs pacify and instill calmness, heavier metal songs instill energy and action. I personally need songs like this to run to because I hate running, but when that aggressive as hell tune kicks in my instinct and adrenaline carry me the rest of the way. What a work of art.
Why do I feel like when we play DOOM, we're like "This is Hell, and I'm the one who'll walk to butcher you all."
Fun fact that will probably be relevant to a future video: The opening of Xiao's character demo "Doomsbane" OST "Path of Yaksha" uses half of the bassline from E1M1 (the first and arguably most iconic OST from the original DOOM) as an homage since he's a daemon killer who has slain probably hundreds of thousands of daemons over the course of his long life, similar to the Doom Marine. It breaks into a more intense version of the regular Liyue character motif for most of the song, but I think it's a really cool detail.
Oh damn, you're right! I don't play Genshin so I didn't know but that's awesome!
And it's not the first/only time Mihoyo have done this too: in the Honkai x Evangelion collab concept trailer when the robot surfaces and beat drops (at 1:01) it's just pure E1M1. As a 90's kid I lost my shit when I realized this and it makes it one of their best and purely badass trailers.

As someone who poked to try DOOM stuff, this is immensely gratifying. Thanks Marco! Immense fun seeing your reactions to this, and getting to hear a take from someone more familiar with classical compositions. BFG Division next if you ever consider a franchise revisit, that one actually makes me tear up often with how intense it gets.
I love how, no matter who's reacting, they always get this "that's nasty" face at some point of the track
I first heard this song before I played the game. When I heard the first notes of it is game, I just stopped, smirked, and suddenly played ten times more recklessly than I had before from pure excitement. Ended up being sad because I finished the fights so quickly.
The absolute furious anger that Mick Gordon can channel with his music can not be described by words.
For Something with a full orchestra and perhaps classical feel. I recommend: "To One with Life" from Monster Hunter 3. Though look up the live performance for the 15th anniversary for the TRUE experience.
0:45 Well about that.
I watched a composer analysis of this same song and at one point he used violins to play the melody, and it actually sounded amazing.
Check Alex Moukala video at around the 6 minutes mark. It's actually pretty darn cool.
Raw aggression, channeled hatred, bloodlust unquelled; I’ve best seen this described as the boss music all of hell hears when you unleash your fury across the realms, mick Gordon truly cranked this game from being just fantastic to LEGENDARY, you can HEAR your weapons screaming in this wanting more gore and death, doom has always been defined by the details that build it and ensuring that the music was set to match the raw brutality you enact was the perfect choice, in this you hear the screams of the damned and use it as a fucking weapon; I can’t imagine a doom eternal without this soundtrack; BLESS YOU MICK GORDON MY PAGAN GODS ARE SO PLEASED
There’s one other track from this you must listen to KAR EN TUK trust me
02:16
yeah that description alone is pretty much enough to describe entire the doom eternal vibe
A game soundtrack I'd recommend to try out is the first Redout game, it's an anti gravity racing game in a similar style to Wipeout or F zero. While the music isn't really there to tell a story, it does an amazing job of using trance style to control the pace you feel like you're going at, and keep you driving forward, while also being the foundation for other styles of instruments/music (guitars, orchestral, electronic) to give each area you race in it's own instantly recognizable flair (Each race area has 2 themed songs). Some examples i like are Subsurface (Europa), Arabia Terra and Nearby Stars (Mars), On my own (Alaska), The Lost Hook (Rotorua). Great Dark Spot and Red storm are two great tracks to hear an Orchestral style fit into a game about racing in space at supersonic speeds.
is the Redout game any good? been looking at it for a while. while I admit i was bad with F-zero i became pretty competent and really enjoyed my Circuits on Wipeout Pure and Wipeout Pulse.
Zardonic is on that soundtrack and he is amazing
@@jesseallen3109 both redout games are good, but you get a vastly different experience depending on which one you play, the first game has a lot heavier handling, and is less reliant on boost mechanics to make you feel like you're going fast, the second is much twitchier, with a lot of tight turning and heavy boost utilisation, I have more fond memories of the first game, and would probably recommend it over the second especially if you haven't played AG games in a while, the second game can downright frustrate me and feel like a slog sometimes, but then when things go well it feels amazing, but both are on the harder end of racing games.
But I'd recommend both, basically
@@someweirdguy5721 yeah on the redout 2 soundtrack, it took me a while to warm up to it but I'm enjoying it a lot more now, and while it has some standout songs (especially those by zardonic) I still think the first game is better, it just has a consistent quality and cohesive style that the second soundtrack just doesn't quite have

Do Kar En Tuk from Doom Eternal next, I love these reactions
Mick Gordon’s soundtrack on Doom is one of the shining examples of why I often feel like video game music today is the purest form of music. Doesn’t matter what genre of music you are into, like or dislike metal music it will MAKE you feel the way it wants you to feel in that moment. In this case rage, bloodlust and violence. I’ve seen the most innocent and kind people turn into frenzied murder machines listening to this track and get completely sucked into that state of mind. It’s akin to the religious experience people get in church when listening to worship music.
So much absolutely brilliant & beautiful music goes unrecognised for what it is, just because it’s in a game. Pillars of Eternity 2 OST, for example, was… truly something special 💙
The composer is currently the Audio lead on a new horror game called Routine. You should check out the brief trailer. Every sound effect is made by him. Hope its music is just as good
It would be interesting to see a mini series on Geoffplaysguitar’s Doom style covers of classical style videogame music.
I love how one can see the approach to activly listen and the total dismantling of all expectations. Lovely to witness :D
The power of music, always gets my blood pumping.
The WHIPLASH of going back and forth between the literal DOOM music and the mellow piano every time he pauses is messing with me.
Since you liked this so much, I really recommend listening to these:
1/ Rip and Tear, but listen to the 'gamerip' version by "RY0G4" instead of the standard release. IMO, that version is much more interestingly arranged.
2/ Listen to BFG Division and then Mastermind immediately after, see if you find similarities.

Glad you took a dive into this treasure trove. So much great music from these games.
My favorite description of this song comes from some other YT comments that describe it as "A Boss theme, wherein the player is the Boss, and the enemies never stood a chance"
Mick Gordon did an amazing job on this song.
Great catch on the double drop. It's a common technique in electronic music actually. It's a way to increase the perceived strength of the drop when it hits by adding the extra tension of the second buildup where you expect the drop.
Watching you react to this gives me goosebumps lol
Mick perfectly captures the games story and gameplay it’s actually insane
10:34 bro that switch oh my fucking god I just, this is hilarious adding calm music just after an enraging ost.....
There's one way to describe the feeling you get with Argent Metal, and obviously the OSTs that started it all. The word for it, is bloodlust.
Which is perfect.
Btw most of the songs, mainly the heavy hitters, have two main riffs and a breakdown section.
I suggest Cultist Base (Which has no guitars btw), Meathook, BFG 10k, Metal Hell, and both the Bloodswamps Heavy Fighting and the Atlantica Facility Heavy Fighting. Also the entire soundtrack
My brain wanted to come up with something completely opposite to this and it went to the serene music of The Talos Principle. That game is amazing, and its music just gives you a nice calm atmosphere for thoughtful puzzle solving which is just completely counter to this song and its goals.
This music not only empowers the player, but it gives the feel of different rhythms of movement and playstyle in the game every time the music changes.

Structurally this song draws its influences from electronic dance music, but it borrows a lot of the aesthetic and instrumentation of metal. It's absolutely incredible to hear how this genre blend works.

My favorite thing about watching people's reaction to Doom's music is how it seems impossible to not get excited when it kicks in
When this song comes on when you push the elevator button and get dropped into the hotel lobby and just before the music drops and the gameplay loop finally clicks and you think "I'm not stuck in a room full of demons, these demons are stuck in a room with me 😈"
This is why I love your channel so much! You are not afraid to react to other types of music.

Listening to doom's OST is a pleasure and an integral part of the battle
The best to look at the final moments of the song is a Big scenery of zooming out as Piles and piles of body is shown on top of each other being Doom Slayer at the top as you hear Cheering/chanting, then the screens just “Cuts” to black.
All of those words to describe something that can be fully explained in just three words. Pure instrumental carnage! I totally agree with your breakdown of the music, those were just the words that immediately popped into my head as I listened to it.
Another three words that can be used to explain the feeling: RIP AND TEAR!!!!!!
6:00 when the time slow down effect ends is where I lose my shit man
To be honest I really didn't expected you to cover DOOM (Eternal) anytime, but here we are, and that was wonderful !
A lot of comments have suggested you BFG Division, yes, it's a real classy among others, but there's also a very violent music that hits to the core that feels like a supreme rumbling, that is "Icon of Sin". By the way I think you should give a try to Attack on Titan's ost, those are very powerful classical ones that also hits to the core, for the emotionnal stakes behind are very strong.
I didn't know how much I wanted to see this reaction till I saw the title. This masterpiece by Mick Gordon is my favorite theme in Doom Eternal and was happy we got a full version for its OST given the controversy behind it.

I love that you are constantly predicting the next tone in this song, and you are always wrong, and its much better.
nothing gets my blood pumping more than that metal choir at the end chanting rip and tear

In short: DOOM Music = PURE UNRESTRICTED *VIOLENCE*
The word i think of from this music is "primal"
Actually, I don’t expected you to react this, but, I’m glad you did this. So if you want more metal choirs you may react to “meethook” and “cultist base” , it’s from Doom Eternal too.
Mick Gordon is an absolute legend
This music has an incredible momentum. It's unstoppable movement.
I just love rewatching this video every now and then to remind myself how impressive DOOM OST really is
You know the funny thing is, the part you compared to a chainsaw was in fact made with an actual chansaw. They also used gun shots and other visceral sounds for making the ost
the high pitch in this, for me, is my enemies screaming driven before me and as for the bass lines i relate to me walking on their skulls :D
This song really brings out the primal nature within us.
Mick Gordon did this awesome panel a few years back at GDC (game developers conference) explaining how he made the soundtrack. It's on the GDC channel, called DOOM: Behind the Music. It's a really good watch.
Anyway, cool video! I'm glad you checked out something drastically different from classical :) Don't get me wrong, I love classical, but sometimes it's cool to branch out. Glad to see you enjoyed this hella cool song!
