Great video, Mike. Since you talked about config at the end I thought of an idea for a new video. How about showing how to change all the defaults and then saving the config to a USB so the student can use any computer. Another thing I've shown my students how to do is export tool paths so they can import into a new file and not need to reinvent the wheel every time.
Kevin I also teach my students how to create a tool library, export ops, configure file of MC how to do basic post changes and have it all saved all to a USB. It works pretty well since the students are never on the same computer during class.
Having a library of saved toolpaths is a huge time saver. I have a bunch saved up with the the tool, wear, lead/out, cut parameters all set. Import and select new geometry and tweek if needed.
Before I started school for Precision Machining I thought I'd get ahead and pirate a copy of MC2019. My school was still using 2017 at the time. Well when I wanted to try 2022 some years later I couldn't download the demo. After a week of errors I called tech support and turns out there's a .sys file that gets embedded in your directory so even if you format your computer it's still there preventing you from installing. I mean the difference is being able to post or not had I known that I would have just downloaded the 2019 demo haha
Its not a difficult one to get around but another speed bump to put in their way. Anything that makes cheating more work ends up making doing the work the easier option.
I thought I had a video up coving how to select non standard editors in Mastercam, but I guess I don't. Put that one on the list! Basically, in your Config on the Start/Exit page, under the Editor pulldown select OTHER. When you do you'll be taken to the windows browse menu. Now just point to the exe of the program you want to select. For Notepad++ this is typically located in the C:\Program Files\Notepad++ folder, select notepad++.exe there and then click Open.
@@CamInstructor Hi thanks for the reply. I got all that sorted but when i do the shift crtl alt right click nothing happens or if i get it to go do not see the expended menu I tried to open in notepad but need to select proper language I believe
Absolutely. You'll have the same time stamps in your files. Why do you want to cheat though? What good does it do you? If you signed up for the class, do you not want to learn the content?
You could use the info in that long data sheet shown in the video but there would be too many variables for it to be reliable. Are you trying to run a timed test? Or just curious of the amount of time spent on a file?

Both great video ideas, thanks!

Every video is more awesome than the last! Keep up the good work!

The last one about the NC name is easy to change but being a student they may not know how.

is there a way for my professor to find out i’ve cheated, if i transfer my friend’s file to my computer and change a couple of dimensions?
Absolutely. You'll have the same time stamps in your files.

@@CamInstructor i dont want to cheat, do you have a set of tutorials i can go through to learn the basics? i’m on the verge of failing the course
Thats a good conversation to have with your instructor. I'm sure they would be more than willing to help you out.
Don't so straight Sir
Not sure I follow
Exelente video saludos 👍
Thanks!
Is it possible to see how much time has been spent on a project?

@@CamInstructor Hi thanks for your reply was just curious.
