      Bronn is a very smart fighter. He deliberately moved to a close distance and concealed a short dagger. If Cersei hadn't stepped between them, Bronn would have killed them before they could draw their swords.

  • @jsephtes5456
    @jsephtes5456 2 года назад +7317

    If there's one thing we know about Bronn is he's actually a very rational person and approaches every situation carefully. So the fact that he even considered laying a hand on the hilt of that dagger shows us that he genuinely believed he could take them both.

    • @tubeyoukonto
      @tubeyoukonto 2 года назад +1105

      Another thing we know is the fact that he knows _when_ to fight. He won every fight he got himself into and never got himself into a fight he couldn't win. E.g. when he declined to fight the mountain. Meaning there is a high chance that he would have killed those two with ease, as there was almost no reward, which means he considered them to be of even lower risk.

      And it doesn't even make sense how he can just march right up to Tyrion in the last season at all, is he that unguarded. Would he be allowed to hit him in the nose?
      Nope, the only reason Bronn stuck around so much is because viewers liked him, but they didn't really know what to do with him.

He knew one slip was all it would take, and even if he won, then what? Tyrion couldn't really offer him anything concrete, and he might actually lose on the deal overall even after winning the fight. He had a lordship and was already sitting pretty ... why f*** that up fighting an insanely dangerous opponent for someone who couldn't really even meaningfully pay him for it?
    There are people who'd put everything on the line just for friendship, but did anyone ever really believe Bronn was one of those types? It's just like he said: he liked Tyrion well enough. He just liked himself a little bit better.

      Being better than a few common foot-soldiers and a fool armed with a wooden stick while you are armed and armoured in cold steel (the best kind by the way ie castle forged) is no vindication of your capabilities as a fighter.
      As for Syrio being first sword of Braavos ... Me bringing 50% grade and being the valedictorian just because the rest of the class brought below 30% is no vindication of my scholarly prowess. Now this may not be true of the Braavosi but it also may. "Trant was in the top 0.01% or something"
      The king of Westeros and indeed the hand of the king are supposed to be ... what 0.00001% of the nobility. Then how is it that so many inept kings and hands have occupied those positions. You didn't answer my question as to how a craven like Boros Blount got in if the selection process hadn't succumbed to corrupt practices (eg cronyism, nepotism)?
      As for Jaime Lannister talking shit, for all his crimes, he was deemed worthy of knighthood at age 15 and even after months of being chained, underfed and being unwashed (infections) and having his hand bound in chains, he fought a humongous cow, that too a well trained one like Brienne of Tarth to a bloody draw (at least in the books). That too Brienne was in armour and he was in rags. I'd like to see you even run for half a mile after that, leave alone fight someone. So if Jaime Lannister speaks in his own mind (POV character) that Meryn Trant is shit, I think its safe to say he isn't talking shit.
      Besides that, if the Hound himself, the man who could take a sword to even the mountain and hold his own, says that Teryn Mant is a Joke, then there is good reason to assume he is.
      "You don't make kings guard without some serious talent."
      Same old lack of logic. Wont repeat myself. Maybe Trant is a good enough fighter, but thats about it.
      "He was trusted enough as a protector to accompany MACE TYRELL"
      Mace Tyrell is one of the characters people in Westeros give the least fucks about. Proves nothing.
      "He's jealous of Trant for becoming the head of the kings guard"
      Ehm. Jaime is Lord Commander.
      "Sell swords are foot soldiers"
      Last I checked, Trant spent the majority of his day on foot and that in a duel, Knights had to dismount and fight like anyone else.
      SellswordS. Plural. We are talking about one single sell-sword here. One who has faced knights on multiple occasions and has never failed to kill them.

    The moment he was within distance to reach out and touch them, they were already at a disadvantage against his dagger. Both were standing too close together and wearing swords facing each other, and so not only would Bronn be able to stop them from drawing swords by simply moving 1 step closer, they also wouldn't be able to draw blades unless they moved further apart. Meaning that Bronn could probably grab the guy on his left with his free hand and pull him close, stab the guy on the right in the neck, and then proceed to stab the guy on the left as he tried to wrestle free. Even from a non-medieval standpoint, that's just shoddy security.
    I worked with a guy who did professional security and one of the first things he explained was "You never stand shoulder to shoulder with another guard, and you always position yourselves spaced out enough that at least one of you has time to circle the guy trying to start the fight. Cause the moment you both stand next to each other his odds of even hitting 1 of you by accident increases. That Bronn reaches for his dagger shows perfectly how he’s actually a killer, whilst the other two are only able to look intimidating. He could slit both their throats in the time it takes to unsheathe their swords and swing the blade. This shows the difference between Tyrion’s logical practicality in hiring a cutthroat as a bodyguard, and Cercei’s ignorant favour towards grandeur, fostered through her sheltered upbringing

      Bronn himself is one of the best fighters in the series, and extremely quick. While the kingsguard are usually good swordsmen, that isn't always the case. Cersei neutered the Kingsguard by filling it with toadies that she could control, but who didn't really belong there. Trent, for example, is an extremely poor swordsman (according to the Hound), and holds his position due to political favor rather than skill. Bronn would kill him easily. Especially given they get that close to Bronn with their swords still sheathed.
      Frankly, at that close range, Bronn would probably deliver a fatal blow to both of them before they finished drawing. You can be the best swordsman in the world, but it won't help you if you're dead before you've got your sword in hand.

    As Oberyn Martell once said: 'Longsword is a bad option in close quarters.' Bronn has a longsword on his hip, but he doesn't reach for that. He goes for the dagger on his back. The Kingsguard both go for their longswords and although we don't see the fight take place, we know how easily Oberyn handled the Kingsguard in the brothel when he reached for a longsword and Oberyn managed to stab him in the wrist before the sword had even cleared its scabbard. He knows how to use which weapon at which time. And so does Bronn. Bronn has seen and been in enough fights to know when to pick them and which weapons are more effective in the given situation.
    If Cersei had left that room 1 min later, she would have found 2 dead Kingsguard in the hallway and Bronn covered in their blood. How he would've explained that situation, I don't know, but Meryn Trant and Ser Whatsit of Whocares would have been too dead to give a witness statement, lol.

      Nope, look at the positioning again. The whosit guard on the right can block the incoming slash attack, while simultaneously drawing his sword. And at the same time, Trant delivers a nose-hit with his sword's pommel, again while drawing it. Bad news bears for Bronn all around. On top of the fact that those guys had some neck protection from slicing: that leather/metal bit dangling from their helmets. Meaning, Bronn would have had to stab, not slice. And while he stabs one, ther other stabs him in return.

      @@VG-fk6nk They are fully armored in fairly shit armor. There's metal but no real protection/gambeson under the armor to protect all the joints and other open spots. The helmets look like they are designed to direct weapon strikes into the head. The open bottom of the helm looks like it's designed to funnel any edge blade into the bottom/side of the head. The "knights" would be drawing their longswords from the same spot allow easy blockage of the draw as Bronn had moved himself up close. Multiple ways to stop the draw and kill the guy on the right in a couple seconds with a flick of the knife into the helm/neck area while maintaining control on the left. Even if the first stab on the right isn't fatal the next stab on the left side should be fatal. Getting stabbed in the face/neck/head is painful and bloody so the guy on the right would be dazed for a good bit allowing time for the finishing. The knights were not in a stance to deal with a physical impact as they were standing improperly while Bronn was already leaning in. That could just be the crappy way they portrayed fighting in the show though. The actors being bad at sword fighting is pretty par for the course in that tv show. One thing that is clear though is that Bronn is NOT the type to get into a fight unless he knows he will win. Consistently the character has shown that he is careful about picking his battles. I love how Lena Headey didnt even look at Jerome Flynn, in mind that their past still affects their work. It might be the only scene where these two characters were present that close to each other.

    I noticed Bronn was getting closer and closer to them throughout the scene and is standing only like half a meter away when he's getting reading to draw his dagger. That's because he knows the closer he is to them the more advantageous his position is with a shorter weapon against two undrawn longswords. I don't know if they did this on purpose but it's a very clever detail. No wonder he won so many fights through sheer tactics, he really know his craft.

    Bronn stood a good chance of killing them. The truth is the kingsguard has become a joke. A parody of itself ever since most of Aerys kingsguard died. The Kingsguard now are slightly skilled cutthroats who believe having a white cloak makes them untouchable.

      ***** As stupid as they might be, the members of the kingsguard are still some of the best swordsmen in the kingdoms. Bronn's cheap tricks works well against average soldiers and knights who do not know him but he wouldnt stand a chance against competent soldiers.

      john doe Their hands were on their swords- no hand free to break his arm. And dagger vs drawing a sword at close quarters - Dagger wins. Then there's Bronns comment about "better at fighting little girls", they're knights but haven't seen (as) many real fights like Bronn has. Lets not forget Bronn has already shown he can kill a guy wearing FULL Armour AND a shield with neither on his persons. & Ser Barristan Selmy could cut down 10 kingsguard... i think you're overrating them, slightly.

    • @rutgerholtzer3961
      @rutgerholtzer3961 10 лет назад +5

      john doe Mhe Jamie is captain of the Kingsguard and any farmers son with a pitch fork could take him down as he is now. And Meryn was seen struggling with Syrio forello who was armed with nothing but a toy sword. I'm not familiar with the accomplishments of Ser Boros, but Bronn seemed to have little difficulty with the Champion of the vale, and in the books he seriously considered fighting the Mountain, the ff-ing mountain. If he has a chance against the Mountain (and Bronn wouldn't consider fighting if he had no chance ) than two measly Kings guards who most likely were appointed by favor, not merit are no problem. Besides Ser Barriston claimed he "could cut the 5 of them like carving a cake". While Barriston is certainly a badass, if he could easily defeat the 5 of them, Bronn should be able to take 2 of them.

    • @Johnnythefirst
      @Johnnythefirst 10 лет назад +4

      john doe 1. Syrio was unarmed, Bronn is not. 2. Trant's face is exposed. 3. Their swords are hung in a position (on the inside) where they would actually hinder each other trying to draw them quickly. 4. Bronn is too close to make a swing or jab. 5. His dagger is already unsheathed. He could stab one of them i the face and shoulderbump the second one out of balance while he's drawing. 6. Nowhere in the book these two are mentioned as exceptional fighters. After Jaime and Selmy, most men in the kingsguard were there for political reasons.

      john doe Well if you're taking quotes from the Hound in the latest episode....what about the sentence right after the one you quoted.. about anyone with any skill with a sword could kill "5 meryn fucking trants"

    • @Johnnythefirst
      @Johnnythefirst 10 лет назад +1

      TheCaptainmarvell Also, Bronn is wearing chain mail. Which is the better, more flexible armor type when fighting blades. They could only pierce it, not slice it. And guess what's made for piercing and not slicing. A dagger or dirk. :)
