Lock Actuator Replacement-Volkswagen Golf 2015-2022(MK7)

Tools Needed:
-T20 Torx
-M6 Triple Square
-Flathead Screwdriver

To install the actuator put the door cables on the new part and reassemble in opposite order.

Thanks for a very helpful video. Some additional details for a 2016 MK7 GTI driver's side replacement. To remove the door lock module I used a T20 driver for the right side black screw (head is on exterior of door). The left side recessed screw required a T15 driver. Furthermore I pulled and held the door handle open while turning the screw counterclockwise for 5 turns. I pushed the screw in towards the front of the car. Then I let the door handle go. The door lock module came right out just pulling with my right hand and lightly prying with a plastic pry tool. I replaced the actuator with a used OEM VW part. The door works just like it always did!

I thought my door lock is doomed. The tempatures these days were around -10. I consulted my friend mechanic and he said that i should try WD40 before anything else. I sprayed with nozzle inside the door lock and other holes, and it fixed the issue. Mk7 driver door lock. Good luck!

When you say nozzles, what holes did you spray wd-40 into?

@@ChristianZ86 On the lock there are couple of holes (I think 3), just spray in each of them. In any case you cannot damage anything with WD.

Thank you for sharing the video. Could you please clarify what issue you encountered with the lock? I noticed that after removing the door panel of my car to address the speaker gasket, the interior door handle only partially engages, and the door doesn't close, suggesting potential issues with the door actuator.

My issue was that after locking the doors, they would all unlock. I could audibly hear them lock, then unlock. After some online searching I found that the lock actuator in the driver door was the likely culprit as it controls all the doors somehow. After replacing the actuator the doors all stayed locked.

I would start with the VW Vortex website and do a search for your issue in order to diagnose the cause. My problem was that the lock actuator itself no longer worked, when I locked the doors they would lock and then all unlock, as the chip for all 4 doors is in the driver door.

@@bensgarage1 In my case, on the other hand, they all close except the driver's, after closing you hear a second click of the rear locks never done before which certainly detects an anomaly but no warning lights came on

I wasn’t receiving any error code, just noticed that the door was not locking when i clicked the fob.
