@@timotmon i am reading many comments where it is written that sigma have dust problems, but is it true? because I am very undecided between this new Samyang, the Sigma and the Tamron G2
@@giorgiomonteleone285 I'm in the same boat as you... So the newer Sigma's are supposed to be fixed but I've heard that they're still a problem but not as bad. Apparently all variable focus lenses have some issues because you're creating a vacuum when you expand it. I think the serials with 5400XXXX and below have the biggest problem but if you buy a lens from a reputable dealer like B&H for example you should get one of the newer ones. It's clear the sigma is the best for quality, but I'm starting to side for the Tamron more and more. @@giorgiomonteleone285 I don’t have any dust issues of my Sigma 24-70. It is one of the newer serial numbers, but I think it’s rare to buy the old serial numbers new. If you got one second hand then you may see those serial numbers more. But yeah, no issues here, and the lens is unbelievably sharp

Very unlikely to squeeze parfocality into such small design. Take a look at cine lenses, which ARE parfocal, they are much larger. This is varifocal with AF motor compensation, a reasonable approximation to parfocality for basic use.
@@roymayh3819 Agreed. True mechanical parfocality is on a different level and complicated to engineer. Which is why I wish there was some demonstration of it. Depending on how well the compensation is done, it could be the difference between a god tier budget lens or just another lens.
Good review. However, to test parfocality turn off AF and focus manually, otherwise you are simply testing the AF motor zooming in/out to adjust for varifocality. You may be surprised at how not parfocal it is. Thanks for posting this review.
After using Samyang 75, 18 and 85mm I was sold by it. I used to have Sony GM and Sigma, but these are way too big and heavy. Samyang small, but still comes close. It was cheap too. Was looking for 24-70 by Tamron, Sigma, then decided with Samyang. Oh yes Sony GM is way too expensive
I bought this lens after many reviews but with my own experience I now have mixed thoughts. My reason is the 24mm wide angle. I'm getting some very odd looking bright corners top left and right. I doubt this would be the result of the lens hood...i'm seeing lens refraction from the inside...this lens is brand new and has not been dropped...it's rather annoying
Owned the 35mm for Sony and had major focus issues. Switched to sigma and never looked back. Don’t think I’d ever make the leap back to samyang with the way Tamron is innovating right now
Wow the images from this lens looks beautiful for it's price. I have Samyang AF 35mm f1.8 (sony-E) and really love it. I think i will skip this FE 24-70mm f2.8 just mainly because of 1kg weight of this lens. I'm so tired lugging around heavy setup, I'm now all about lighter setup and this lens is way to heavy. I will go with Thamron 28-70mm f2.8 instread for replacing my canon 24-70mm f2.8 for my a7sIII, just because it is almost half weight lighter than Samyang 24-70mm (540gr)
But it's priced against the Sigma 28-70 contemp and Tamron 28-75 v2. I've owned the 35f1.4, 50f1.4, 14f2.8, 18f2.8 and 35f1.8. their build quality and AF just isn't there...
Excellent review, thanks! Was there a color tint? My Samyang 85mm has a slightly yellow color tint which might be to some peoples taste but not to me alas. Thank you.
I want buy lens for video and photo. Choose between Sigma 24-70 and Samyang. Is anyone tested this lens for video. Which sense will be better? I watched in other review is showing that par focal not working when first focus at 24 mm and the zoom to 70
Last year I spent almost 3,000 EUR on a 24-70, only to use it for a week and then forget about it... I just always end up using either my 35 or 50 instead and not only that but that 24-70 is my least used lens. I think I used it maybe 3-4 times since I bought it... Again, if I need that range I just always use my 35, 50 or 85 and if I need a wide angle, I just go with my 16mm 2.8... I'm eyeballing that RF 70-200 but I feel like it will be the same thing as happened with the 24-70... I'll just end up shooting everything with the 100mm instead of the 70-200 lol... Any advice?!
It's good to have at least one mid range zoom, because it allows composition that can't be done with a prime, for example, using perspective distortion to your advantage. While this can sometimes be done with primes, it isn't always an option.
Any comparisons between the Sony Zeiss 24-70 f4? Currently have this one but I want a faster all-rounder so thinking of upgrading to this or a Sigma Art while also selling the Zeiss
I really liked this lens, but be very very careful as this have a very fragile lens mount. If I mount this on an APS-C camera with a 1,5 crop value, it would have a range of 36 to 105. Would the autofocus work over the longer range of mm's? Make sure before answering.
it was a really good lens for the short time that I had it- was a bit heavy though- but I liked it a lot. image quality and lens performance were excellent... however, there are two really huge problems with it: first, is that the mounting plate is screwed into four small plastic posts- this is all that is holding your lens onto your camera. so let's say you trip and fall and you bang your lens on the ground (which I've done with my sony 28-70mm kit lens- but it still works perfectly), or if your tripod with your camera falls, as mine did, the plastic posts will simply break on impact and your lens will just snap straight off your camera. the second problem is trying to get that repaired. it will not go well because repair shops cannot get any parts for your lens, and Samyang has only one location in the US to fix the things covered by their warranty... so ultimately you'll learn that you've bought a $1000 disposable lens... a real shame because I would have easily replaced it with another. Instead, though I'm gonna miss the 4mm on the wide end, I got the Tamron.
This will have to priced below the Sigma 24-70, otherwise no real compelling reason to buy this over the Sigma. And Tamron just updated their 28-75 and it's likely going to be stellar.
