Do you like the soft film look?? :D
Sure we do! Such a smart DIY idea!!!!!
Haha thank you 🙏🏻 🤩🎥
Try use black spray paint, it lift the contrast also :)
🥳🥳🥳
Yes sir!😍
I just want to say this was done extremely well, you're providing a service for those of us who don't have it in the budget or just want to try out a look that we see is really popular lately before spending money on a filter but at the same time you really gave props to the company selling the product and it was pretty much a free ad for all the services they offered as well. If I'm dreamfx I honestly wouldn't be mad at you, I'm more likely to buy one now than I was before just based off this video
Thank you. That is very nice of you 🙏🏻 I hope you enjoy trying this out and let me know how you get on 🎥 thanks for watching
If you used spray clear-coat, like artists use for sealing charcoal drawings, it would probably dry without being sticky to the touch
That’s cool! Thanks for the tip 🙏🏻
This is genius
What's the exact name?
Hahaha who would’ve thought HAIRSPRAY on a filter would create such a beautiful effect. Super creative!
Thanks my man 🤩 🙏🏻🎥 such a cool look
Anyone who was into photography in the 60s and 70s, probably - it was a standard trick then.
I intend fitting a second UV filter over the new diffuser face to protect its effect. Cool 👍
alternative you can put a lenscap on it to protect it as well ✌️(if you dont have a Filtercase or 2nd uv Filter)
Yeah I’m definitely going to give this a try, might film it seeing how I get on, crediting this video of course!
My brain just exploded with this, thanks for the tip
Haha you’re welcome 🤣 let me know if you try ir
Absolutely great idea ! I'll try now !
🤩 let me know how it turns out 📽
I love the grading 👍👍👍
As much as i want a prism fx this is a neat way to test out fx or even get creative making your own filters!
thank you so much for this video. same “problem” with the shipping + currency exchange and you just saved me!
Ah that’s awesome. I hope it works. Let me know 🤩 also thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
Thanks for your video! I bought a UV filter for all of my lens diameters and spray hair spray in the air and sweep the filter through it and the effect is amazing.
Ah that’s cool. So pleased you tried it and it works. Thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Hey, mind asking what brand of uv filters you bought? I want to buy a cheap uv filter, but I'm worried that the flare at night will be too strong...
lovely video, thanks so much!
Thank YOU for watching! 🙏🏻🤩🎥
Just what I was looking for. I figured I'll give this a try and if not, spend the cash for the BPM!
great video! Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻🤩🎥
Another tip to save big on this if you're on a budget.
Get a really cheap small desk picture frame on sale. The glass works great. Also I try different material. Petrol jelly and coconut oil are pretty interesting. Both of them and hairspray too can be cleaned of easily with rubbing alcohol.
I did this wih black spray paint, also very good effect
👌🏻🎥
I love my old Cosina ! ❤
Oh my gobe. 😂 nice trick! Gonna try it.
Thanks for sharing this. I bought two cheap UV filters, sprayed one with hairspray and covered the front by screwing the second UV filter to it. Hopefully this will protect the coating on the first filter for a while 👍
Nice one Dan. Good idea 👌🏻 thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland How is this setup holding up? My concern with doing this has been that the light flares will be super strong.
Great vid man thanks heaps.
Thanks Michael 🎥🤩
yep , good trick man , I use also GOBE for long time , great mid range filters :) anyway I going to try make diffusion glass in different way , let you know how it will be working .
Dude! You are a genius! :-D
😂 thanks 🙏🏻
For those suggesting to spray the inside of the UV filter..Be advised if hair spray gets on the filter threads it might get stuck on your lens, and you possibly wont be able to remove it.
Hi. This is why I used masking tape to cover the thread. 🙏🏻 thanks for watching 🎥
i suggest spraying the filter on the inside to reduce exposure to dust
this or get another filter and screw it ontop - so the hairspray layer is in between
I was thinking that but was also wondering if the effect might be different because it might break the light a different way
Spraying the inside could cause the hair spray to get on the threads if so the UV filter might get stuck on your lens and you might not be able to remove it
love your idea of it! I can't wait to try, but how do I clean the filter, if I don't want the effect anymore?
I use this on a adapted vintage Canon 28mm f2.8 fd. Sprayed the inside of the uv filter and always leave it on the lens.
Awesome! I bet you get some cool vintage looks 📽
Hey, do you think, if black spray paint is used instead of hairspray, the image would retain its contrast? (kinda like the black pro mist filter).
You seem like a proper sound chap 👍
Thanks Lewis! 🙏🏻 I’m sure you are too! 🎥😎 and thanks for watching
Yes, you support small business! We won't ruin our stuff😂😂 Now please could you try a thin layer of vaseline instead of hairspray?
pure genius , how did you even think of that
😂 Thanks bro! I just saw an image of the actual filter and thought, it’s just textured glass - how can I make that? And that’s it. Thanks for watching bro! 🙏🏻 you gonna give it a go?
@@SamHolland I definitely have to try that hack
Let me know if you give it a go 🤩🙏🏻🎥
It's everywhere when you start looking at comprison between diffusers.
reee I just spent a lot on 1/4 promist and cinebloom 20% shipped to England too :D
Awesome
Thank you 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Hi, would it be any different if I would have sprayed it with Flat Black can spray?
What would the effect be like?
This is a fantastic video. Thanks for making it. I've got a video about the Cinebloom vs the DreamFX filter coming out tomorrow. I'd love to know your thoughts on it when it releases. (11.1.21, 0900 Eastern Time, if you're wondering). Thanks again for this!
Thank you and thanks for watching. That would be good to check out 🤩🎥🙏🏻
Wow that’s crazy, I just purchased a black pro mist 😅
👌🏻
U such a decent person.
🤩 Thank you! 🙏🏻 Thanks for watching
my question : when the hairspray are dry, will it stick to filter or just need to reapply again?
i had much UV Filter bonus from buying lens i wanna try it
Nice tips
Thank you 🙏🏻🎥
ahh ok, already tried the hairspray, didn't work for me :(
The wife did suggest though the stuff you spray windows with (frosting) not tried that though (maybe too harsh though)
use black spray paint for everlasting filter. easy to clean up with razor blade too
I just bought the moment cinebloom, I wish Ive seen your video before
😂 I’m sure the moment is great though! 👌🏻🎥 thanks for watching. You could always make one if you need a backup.
I have a Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/8 which is a bit too subtle at times. I considered a 77mm Moment Cinebloom 10% but they're on back order, so I've just ordered yesterday two cheap UV filter - not taken the Gobe (Urth now) because someone reported that the glass came off of something like that (I've read too many reviews to remember which it was).
I was going to test with a black paint spray but I'll probably test hairspray first and then later a clear coat for a more permanent finish. (Inside being better, like someone said in a comment.)
Let me know 🙏🏻🎥👌🏻
How is this setup holding up? My concern with doing this has been that the light flares will be super strong.
What a cracking idea - I love Gobe Filters use them all the time - what do you use for yout main VND I have got the Canon ones set in the adpater for my EF's lens but was thinking of upgrading the Gove one I have for the RF lenses - thanks again Blue trying to upload one at the moment it is slow tonight ! When will get get a look at the film look software/plugin ? looking forward to the LUT pack !
Hey man! Thanks for watching bro 🙏🏻🤩💪🏻 I used the canon adapter one for a bit but when I found out I couldn’t use the adapter for normal lenses too I decided to get the polar pro Peter McKinnon 2-5 stop one. Best decision ever. Soooo good! No vignetting! 🤩🥳 looking forward to your next video man. I’m filming the film software video hopefully Wednesday and I am just making the final tweaks to the LUTS and then making a new website so that won’t be too long. Maybe 2-3 weeks! 🤩 thanks bro. Hope you’re well 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland All good here thanks hope you and the family are too might have to hit that link for the PM one then ...
Good man 🙏🏻 and thank you! Man it’s deffo worth it
Been obsessed with the film look and 16mm. Might have to try this out, but get two filters and just stack one on top of the other so I don't get anything on the hairspray surface.
That is a good idea! 👌🏻 let me know how you get on. Stay tuned for a video including film software and a giveaway. Might be right up your street since you mentioned the 16mm look. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland Will do!
- this truck is well known in diy community and from experience it does yield very impressing results.
However with bigger filters I came across an issue I haven’t found solution to.
With bigger front filters, when pointing the camera on a small bright object I can see the tiny specs of the spray.
Have you ever noticed that?
Hi. No I haven’t noticed that. I think that would have something to do with how far the filter is away from the lens, your aputure setting, and how far apart the specs are. But as you can see in the tests, if you keep your aputure low, it’s nice and hazy. 🤩👌🏻 thanks for watching. I hope that helps 🎥🤩🙏🏻
I used a perfume spray and it worked too
That’s awesome! 🤩🎥
well i was not expecting to see merry hill here
🤩
hey! awesome vid, it was what i was searching for :) do you clean afterwards the filter? and re-do the process or you keep the lens like that? x
Hi. I’m pleased you found this helpful. I just keep it as it is. It seems to have lasted so far and still works great. Thank you for watching 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland thank you :) i will try it, i am digging this effect!
Awesome. Let me know how you get on. Yeah it’s so cool isn’t it
@@SamHolland i will 😉😉!! X
oooohhhhh this was a good one!! Thanks for that! I am thinking why shooting the footage with this kind of filters and not reproduce it in post? What do you think?
I don’t think it gives the same look in post. Plus it frees up processing power for the computer. 👌🏻 but once it’s on, it’s baked into the footage so you can’t change your mind. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥🤩
@@SamHolland ok thanks for the answer. There is one in a good price from k&F.
Thanks buddy, subbed :) where from in the UK you film your videos?
Thank you! 🤩🙏🏻 East Midlands! 💪🏻🎥
@@SamHolland Woooh now I see why your accent sounds familiar! I've been living in Birmingham and lastly Stourbridge 'til last October. Now I'm in Italy due to the pandemic but I'm about to get back living in Stourbridge by half May 😀👍
No way?!?! I literally just moved back from very close to there. Small world. I hope things are ok in Italy! 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHollandAhah so cool! What was that Wolverhampton? Walsall? Kidderminster? Black Country rules ahaha😂👍 Italy is alright, happy to stay here for another couple of months although almost every region is "red" (a sort of lockdown) until Apr 6th. Mate when I'm down in West Midlands again let's make few videos together, go check some works on my channel😉
The only thing that this method changed... Is... It relatively changed the front element's coating. So as light passed through my spray it warmed up the subject. Cuz the coating is different.
OMG, really? I was ready to spend 70$ for a light diffusion filter...
💰💰💰💰🤩
same here, awesome idea!
🙏🏻
I’m going to try it with black spray paint so it won’t get sticky and mimic more of the black Proust from tiffen
👌🏻 let us know how it turns out 🤩🎥 thanks for watching
Thanks great idea! You dont sound like a Hollander by the way :P
Let me know if you try it 🙏🏻 😂😂
what if you screw another filter on top to protect the hair spary coating? ...or what if you use a white/black/gray spary paint from a far away distance?
To be honest... mine is still fine. It’s set hard and still works a treat! 🤩 let me know what you do 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland Really? So it can lasts a long time, that's amazing!
Black works really good too! Try this. (far distance) You can easily wipe it off with nale polisher.
(Sorry for my bad english=
@@tillhemwell3415 I just bought a uv filter, I'll try soon😉😉
🤩
89 dollars for shipping and taxes with prism lens, i'm definitely going to use this tip instead 😅
I know!! 🤯🤯 hope it goes well. Let me know how it turns out.
Great tips! Wish there were more companies like prism lens fx in the uk shipping costs way too much sometimes 😭
So true!! Thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Have you heard about cinebloom?
oh it worked soooo well for me, screw tiffen :D
😂😂 haha thank you for watching. So pleased you tried it and it worked for you
@@SamHolland took me some attempts to get the pearl's the right size, but once I had it it worked better than expected.
Hey. That’s amazing. So glad it worked 🤩💪🏻 the good thing is, you can just wipe it off and start again. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Hi from FRANCE !
Does the filter remain as such or must the operation be repeated after a certain time?
Hello! 👋🏻 I haven’t needed to repeat the process so far. Seems to be working the same as when I first did it. 🙏🏻 thanks for watching
@@SamHolland Glad to hear it ! I wanted to know another thing, Is it important to do this outside the filter and not inside?
I did it on the outside just in case anything got on the lens 🤩🙏🏻🎥
... let me know how you get on
@@SamHolland I just ordered an UV filter with a black spray paint, from what I saw, we maintain the contrast better than with a hairspray, i'll try from the inside ASAP 👀
Did you spray it on the inside or outside of the filter?
I sprayed the outside just in case it didn’t work and it came into contact with the lens. 👌🏻🙏🏻🤩🎥
@@SamHolland Love that😂 thanks mate
You’re are welcome! Thank YOU for watching 🙏🏻🤩🎥
Those who shoot wedding keep in mind the hairspray next time your doing the bridal prep. Sometimes the hairdressers go crazy with it. We're getting a free coating while we shoot....
wow nice.. thank you ,, lol hahaha
for how long does it last's ?
Hi. I’m not sure how long exactly. I suppose if you keep it in the case when not in use then it will last longer but you can just wipe it clean and start again. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
I think it's [Go-beh] 🙂
😂
Where are the filters links?
Hi. They are in the description box 🙏🏻 thanks for watchinf
you are my wallet savior. i will buy the actual filter when i have money
Nice one!! 💪🏻 glad I could help 🎥🤩
The comparison should be with the filter you're trying to emulate instead of no filter, to demonstrate the efficacy of the 'hack'.
Sorry, I didn’t have one at the time
literally bought 2 prisms for the price of 1 of their lens prisms. paid 22. for 2
That’s ace! 🤩👌🏻🎥
you just save my ass
😂🙏🏻
WELL< i aint buying no dream filters now HAHAHA!
🤩🎥🙏🏻
has
save the money!!!!!!!
💪🏻
Bypass filters entirely and just slap a piece of womens stockings on the front. Works great
$50 dollars though mean just save up extra $20 and buy the fx one smh idk Mayne that's just me im all for saving but unless it's like under $20 or even 30 pointless lol
wtf
I ruined my stuff, 0/10
Tragic.
Why would you spray a foreign substance onto your camera gear; will your lens manufacturer cover your lens, if you get that gunk gets into your lens??? NEVER DO THIS. THIS GUY IS WHACKED.....
Just put a second filter on to save the sprayed surface...
