  • In this episode, I review Trimcraft re.Bowls. It’s a versatile high performance egg that delivers an organic single fin glide with a steep learning curve behind.
The board was hand shaped by John Oppito. John is a great shaper and the owner of Rozbern surfboards. Their boards get shaped and glassed under one roof in Asbury Park, NJ.
John shaped this board for the alternative-board collaboration Trimcraft which features designs from shaping Rich Pavel, Alex Lopez, and Ryan Lovelace.
I was always curious to ride one of those boards and I eventually had a chance to snuggle one from my friend.
I’ve been riding this board for over a month and all I can say is that the board will perform pretty well when the conditions are right. I pretty much dialed those conditions and now it makes it so much easier to make a decision on when I can take this board out.
I was having the most fun on it when the waves were from 1 up to 5 ft with clean conditions. It didn’t work well for me on choppy mushy days.
I didn’t have a chance to take it out on bigger days as those days happen once in 2 months and it’s hard to catch.
The ideal conditions start kicking in from 3 ft and over. That's when I was actually able to turn it which took me a few sessions to figure that out. After that, it was great. I was able to do basic maneuvers, cutbacks, floaters and cruising down the line with a lot of speed.
However, I’d say, It’s not as user friendly as CI Mid or Seaside and Beyond. It’s a different breed that wants to take time to build relationships and it doesn’t forgive your mistakes.
    Enjoy this episode!

Great review. I love my 7'2" re.Bowls. Check out Ryan Lovelace's Thick Lizzy model. It's a super fun mid length that works so good on flat waves. Cheers!
