Based on what? The bible never talks about these things directly. If it were indisputably "unholy" then it would be unmistakably and repeatedly forbidden - beyond all doubt the way idolatry is. But it's not.

Yeah that is not in reference to oral sex. The woman also says in Song of Solomon 4:16 " Let my beloved come into his garden and eat his pleasant fruits" Is she telling him to "eat" his own "fruits"? Ofcourse not! She is referring to actual fruit.

I would advise anyone to read and study the terminology in Song of Solomon. It is a very erotic (not to be confused with lustful) poem. Lust is wrong, but lust does *not equal sex. As long as sex is in marriage and is out of love, for the pleasure of the other, with the self abandoned, then it is completely holy. Sex was made by God and is a very intimate practice that is to emphasize the longing to be one flesh.

I really tend to agree with Driscoll on matters pertaining to sex. So many professing Christians act like a man and woman in a marriage are still under restrictions that are NOWHERE to be found in the Bible. It's too bad he subscribes to reformed theology though, that really disappoints me.

Bible says you do man putting away the natural use of a woman. I mean if you have sex with a body part that both sexes have then would that not be wrong? I mean there is a male body part and a female body part that are made to fit together, for the purpose of reproduction and physical intimacy. Just because a male body part will fit in other places doesn't mean it's okay. My first thought was:'democratic church'- church meetings led by the desires of the congregation, not being led by the desires of God/ pastors. Yet i think Mark really wants to talk about oral s-x , probably a) to help those who do have questions b) he like to be the edgy pastor c) he could well like the idea of O.S. for himself. As there is no precedence for such topics coming up in an open Q and A in the bible (Moses didnt do it, Jesus didnt do it, Paul didnt do it) why does MArk do it?
There is a precedence in 1Corinthians ch7 for the elders to ask questions to Paul about sexual matters, but not in an open anything goes format. But God does not forbid it either.
Well, Paul also said not to judge anything before its time (1 cor 4) and Jesus said you will know them by their fruits. I believe Mark is wishing to help his audience with their questions. Wether its appropriate will eventually be judged by the Lord, whether it was in or out of him, and burn up or remain accordingly. Like most of us, most of our works WILL be burnt up as we did not do them in the Lord but for our selves.. Lord, come!

I realize this comment was 9 years ago, but I'm commenting anyways. He is teaching Christians and in this very evil, lustful and pornographic world, this teaching is vital for many. I agree it is 😢 just terrible that we have to teach this but that is where we are. Thank God that someone will teach this tough topics to new Christians. Webster's dictionary defines sodomy as both anal and oral sex but it could also include all other non procreative methods of having sex which would include toys, hand sex, using the pull out method ect. The Bible says no sodomite will enter the kingdom of heaven "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? 'Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]homosexuals, nor [b]SODOMITES, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. " - 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Notice how homosexuals and sodomites are used separately meaning they are two different things.
Oral sex falls under the sin of Onan as well. In Genesis 38:8-10 Onan spilled his seed on the ground and God struck him dead on the spot. Sperm was designed to go into the vagina only it was not meant to be spilled onto the ground, swallowed or wasted in anyway.

The Bible talks about uncleanliness multiple times in both the old and new testament (2 Corinthians 6:17& 7:1 being only a few examples) Cleanliness is next to nothing to godliness! It's not godly to go drink from a toilet seat so why would Christians put their mouths where urine, blood and waste come from? If you were born in the Middle East, you probably end up believing in Islam, or Judaism. If you were born in parts of Asia, I bet you would believe in Buddhism or Taoism. Heck, if you were raised by Thelemists or conservative Celtics that follow Druidism, you would still end up believing it. I don't understand how people just accept what they are told. It does not mean that it is the truth. You can choose to believe it. But eventually people tend to lose who they really are for something that turns into an industry, where churches make millions of dollars. That's exploitation that makes me sick, just playing with people's fears of being cast in "hell" and using that to make money. That is a fatal flaw with religion that I refuse to ignore despite many other things. I am not going to be pushed or pressured by my family members or by Christians who spend their time harassing and insulting people who have the right not to believe in any religion. I believe in kindness and compassion and that is the true that one could be saved before death. Perhaps not for heaven or hell, (cuz they don't exist, to me) but for the people that you have affected in a positive way even after you're gone from this Earth. That's good enough for me, as long as they are happy. Plus, if you'd go to "heaven," what do you do there anyway? Just be there happy all the time for eternity? How would you look like? just as you look the moment you died? When you were young? When you were and adult? An old man? or are you some floating consciousness with no form whatsoever? Do you see people? can you joke around without being offensive in the littlest? Can you laugh? Can you see places or is it all white everywhere? What is heaven anyway? Ask yourself.
freedum5 I would say that you are blindly accepting what people tell you, and even what you tell yourself. Allow me to explain. Imagine yourself as a student of life, and you are looking at a magnificent math question, and when you feel like you've come close to understanding a portion of the answer, you realize you just don't have the tools, resources or knowledge to finish the magnificent math question, and you may think for the time being "it must have no answer." Then you look over at your friends paper, who has the same magnificent math question and you see that he has written an answer. He says he absolutely knows it's correct, and you are in disbelief.
What is the only way for you to know if he is wrong? Well it's to know the absolute answer to the question. So considering that you don't know the answer, you can not prove that his answer is incorrect, and you would therefore have to look to the teacher for guidance, you would have to spend time with the teacher who could walk you through the steps, and come up with the correct answer. And it will take trust on your part, in the teacher to even begin to learn.
This is actually a reality. You are looking at all these Christians who proclaim God has saved them, changed their life etc. and you are saying they couldn't possibly be right, but the truth is you haven't the means to prove their claims wrong, for you admittedly don't know the truth yourself. So instead of trying to guess, or blindly accept other people guesses, even your own, go to the teacher directly and let Him walk you through the steps. That is how these Christians came up with the right answer; they went to the teacher.

Well, for one thing, I stand by with what I say when I know that the bible has gone through much mistranslation and misinterpretation. That's not something I so easily jumped to accept. It took time. About two millenia and it's the same? Sorry, not buying it. BUt tha'ts not even the point. That's just ONE thing issue I have with Christianity and its not even major. Believe it or not, I was raised to be Christian and I own a bible. But just because I was surrounded by Christianity almost all of my life it does not mean I should just accept it and go on without questioning it. That would blind of me. It doesn't make me a bad person, nor does it make me a fool. The first thing that must be done is to confirm that he exists, for I too have sought out this "teacher" and found no one there.
I found that the only reason people believe in him is they just want to be safe in case heaven and hell exists. Christianity is an act of safety, just in case it is true. Although it's a legitimate reason to be concerned since one wants to be burning in pain for all eternity, I can't help but think that that is a little pathetic. In the end, you will come crawling to him when you're facing death. Your fear will be so overwhelming that you openly accept without question that He exists just in case there is a burning lake waiting for you, just before you die. It's quite a selfish act to do before you die if you ask me.
Look, I'm obviously not above guilt or fear of a burning lake of fire that I could suffer in for all eternity, but before I think about that. I have to take a step back and see what I am investing my life to. I have to see if it is worth it. My only time here in this world and I must choose how I am going to live life. Would living under the constraints of religion be only making me miss out on certain things in life? Would it only make me narrow-minded? Not open to new ideas and things? Would it all be for nothing? You see, I care about how I would affect other people's live if I were to believe that one way is the right way to live. As I'm sure you know that religion is not necessarily the best friend of humanity. History and social constructs today say other wise. That is my biggest problem. Although Christianity's core message is a very nice message, "love thy neighbor," I can't just accept it just because someone believes in it with all their heart. That's them. Their math answer for them. And I think that your analogy is nice but now quite putting things in the right places. The "mediator" here would be the student with the possible correct answer. It would be people that are the mediators because they are the one's you listen to and the ones you believe when you read the bible.It is Man says all the things there is to God. Jesus Christ, as I see it, was a mortal who was great. He was so great that people wrote of him. Before this gets into his supposed miracles, it's easy for people to say or write spectacular things about another person. In fact, its especially handy politically. No one will know what really happened during the time of Jesus's life. But there are many scholars who study this. Reza Alsan is one among many.
Going back to your analogy. The "teacher" is there. He must have gotten the pink slip or something. The true teacher is yourself.
