I’ve noticed how prevalent #1 is today in “the church”, and accepted as being fine. Couples living and sleeping together and going to and serving in the church every week like “we’re good”.
You know what's prevalent? The actual dismissal of marriage itself. Sex is an integral component of marriage itself. Taking a look into the story of Isaac and Rebekah would tell you *how* these two got literally married. The customs were just customary, not required. It's just considered respectful and a part of one's culture where the customs come from. Isaac never had to respect or follow the customs of Rebekah's father; he simply consummated the marriage with Rebekah through sex. How many actually realize that having sex with their first love, then going through multiple people to find *love* is considered adultery and fornication all at the same time? These people going to church fail to realize just how bad it is.
It is fine. My god would never begrudge me for having a lover who I’m faithful and true to but don’t have a silly marriage certificate legally saying I’m married. If you believe that’s a sin, you’re a fool.
This is very difficult for me, I’ve been with my boyfriend for almost eleven years, we have two kids together. I’ve recently gave my life to Christ. I feel awful every time my boyfriend and I fornicate. He says he already sees us as married since we live together and have kids . I really want to be married in gods eyes. I’m feeling close to giving an ultimatum. I just have to trust God, I know God has my back. Please pray for us.
That seems pretty silly for you guys to not be married. Just go to the courthouse. It’s free. I’m not sure what to say if it’s him who just doesn’t want to get married. If that’s the case I’m sorry for you. It must mean he’s either not fully committed even though it doesn’t seem that way at least from my limited POV. Or it must mean he’s scared of the government influence in your marriage or something. But regardless that makes no sense because if you were a woman who got tricked by the gov into being a single mom and going through the divorce machine... then you could already do that... because you guys already have kids and have lived together 11 years. I’m sure you do this often. But I’ve found if you have the courage to genuinely pray to God for answers. That He genuinely gives them. Amen. God bless you miss. Hopefully it works out and you’re a mrs soon.
It would be interesting to know if in the early biblical times it was required to go ask the government for permission to get married and then sign that permission slip upon the ceremony. Or is that just for tax purposes? What constitutes marriage in the Lord's eyes? Is it the marriage license? The ceremony? The fancy wedding feast? Expensive jewelry? Or is it the covenant that the man and woman enter into, when two become one flesh? The traditions of man don't seem to line up with God's plan for marriage.
@@billbader5755 I agree! A "legal" marriage has nothing to do with a couple offering themselves up in covenant with God as Biblical marriage is defined. You can be legally married in earthly terms but still living in fornication in the eyes of The Lord.
At this point, it does not matter anymore. You are married in the eyes of God, all thats missing is a piece of government paper. Giving him an ultimatum would be dumb at this point because then you would be responsible for breaking up your family. Him not choosing to convert is no different than you choosing not to convert to Islam. Continue to pray, but be happy you're in a rather fruitful and monogamous relationship

@@mrwolf3939 could you unpack your point more? I assume you are implying that you don’t believe God is real, therefore those who do are wicked? Am I reading that correctly? And if so, what do you believe the truth is?
Love that there are pastors willing to discuss the "taboo" topics. MAYBE if more pastors and churches taught on such topics we MIGHT see fewer divorces in Christian marriages, fewer absent parents, fewer parents turning their kids against the other parent, fewer adulterous affairs, fewer Christians going out and getting drunk etc, and so on. We MIGHT actually see the Body of Christ growing, flourishing, and making an eternal difference in the world.
I was listening to CBC radio the other day (tax funded Canadian propaganda) and they were talking about how good it was that we were becoming more diverse and accepting of the many different kinds of relationships like polygamy, open "marriages", same sex "marriage" etc. These are the days we live in. Evil is good, and good is evil.
"Everything I say is offensive, and true" is brilliant :D Sums up Christianity pretty well. I am glad to be part of the Church. All the glory to God :D
It would seem appropriate to also do a teaching on how important sex is in a marriage. Apart from a legitimate health or medical issue, a marriage without sex just seems like a friendship with tax benefits.
@@trebleboost7 because the Bible commands man and women to summit to one another. Only taking brakes to pray. So we should be serving our spouses, and giving thanks to the Lord. The enemy knows that God loves marriage so he looks to tempt us with adultery. If your partner isn't having sex with you it opens the door to the temptation of adultery. We should not put ourselves in that situation. You can divorce a spouse who is not performing there part of the marriage contract
Thank you so much Pastor Mark. I was raised in the church and spent 20 years in a black hole of sex and drugs. I'm now celibate and grateful to God for His forgiveness, because that is my only hope. I think your sermon, while excellent, would benefit from the addition of sociological evidence that sexual sins are truly destructive. I.e., swinging couples often end up divorcing. Users of pornography end up directionless. Etc. Only by casting my sins upon Jesus and living a renewed life in His name am I able to leave behind me the burden of sexual sin. I would appreciate a deep dive into EACH of the points you listed and how destructive the outcome is. Thank you again. - Sinner Saved by Grace

Recently got married after having a kid and living together with my girl. Such a weight lifted off, best decision I made. I encourage others to do the same. Especially in a society that deems this acceptable
I’ve been saved for nearly 3 years and even though I was able to almost completely give it up, recently I have developed an addiction to pornography. I’m struggling and I know it is hurting my relationship with God. I just keep praying and trying to flee from it as much as possible
Jesus sees you and loves you. When you pray, be aware of how deeply He loves you. Allow His love to push this addiction out of your life. When you feel tempted, remove yourself from the situation (or room), rebuke the tempting feeling/thought and turn your heart and affection to Jesus in prayer and meditate on His love for you. probably a lot of believers too. i've been having a debate in the youtube comments with someone for 2 days now who is adamant that you can have sex before marriage as long as neither person is married.
@@red_phoenix0570 Right. That isn't true. There is a reason why sexual immorality and fornication are mentioned. Think about this for a second. How can you get married? Through sex. Yes, through sex literally. Mind you, customs such as having a priest, officiating the wedding, having family members come around to celebrate, many people coming to join in your wedding... These are all customs and not mandatory. They are absolutely not required and they don't *officiate* the marriage. What the customs do is "tell" the world that the couple are married. What many overlook is that sex is a very integral component of marriage itself. Just take a look at Isaac and Rebekah. Isaac never had to go to a wedding. He never had to meet the father and mother. He never had to invite many of his family members, friends, and other people to see him off. Abraham simply found a wife for Isaac, brought her to him, and they literally had sex. From a viewpoint, if you apply this to the world *without* the customs, how many people are now adulterous through multiple one-night stands? How many people are now sexually immoral fornicators? How many people actually were married *before* they got customarily married? A lot. There is a verse that specifically explains this: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matthew 7:13-14)
@@BushidoBasher Spot on! Even with marriage contracts in the U.S. today, sex is required to consummate a marriage. If they marry on paper alone and there is no consummation and they choose to separate legally, it is not a divorce but an annulment. It's as if the two never entered into a marriage agreement.

The amount of comments I see trying to defend polygamy is astounding. What, are Christians trying to have more than one spouse now? That is not of God at all. God gave Adam Eve, He didn't give Adam Eve, Beth, and Rachel. And Jesus said marriage is between ONE man and ONE woman. Polygamy relationships NEVER will work, there's always going to be jealousy and strife amongst the people involved.
Anyone who thinks there won't be betrayal, envy, jealousy, and infidelity in that structure is beyond foolish and only justifying their sin. God created Eve. One woman was to be his helper and his only wife, so he wasn't alone. Adam was in the very presence of God for all eternity in paradise and still felt alone. So God gave him a wife. Not a wife and a side piece.
Remember the parable of the ten virgins. The Bridegroom took 5 of the ten. If monogamy was the only way then it should've been the parable of the 2 virgins and one should've been picked.
You can easily convince me that polygamy is a bad idea However, You would have a hard time convincing Abraham, Moses, King Solomon, David and many many others in the old testament. People that we Christians look up to and make reference to constantly. Then, people make the argument that we live in the New covenant and Jesus is our standard. Jesus didn't even have one wife. I honestly believe the reason God let them by with it Is because it served as an analogy and introduced the concept of the Bride of Christ having one groom.

I’m a v. man waiting on God for my v. woman and I refuse to lower my standards. Let me ask you a question about that statement/verse. What if the woman was married to a man who cheated on her many times and then he divorced her and left her. Does that mean a man who then takes her for his own wife is committing adultery?
@@Big86morrell1there’s only 3 grounds for divorcement in the Bible. Desertion, adultery, and death. So that should answer your question. She not committing adultery. However, the #1 cause of divorce today is supposedly money and that’s not a biblical reason to get divorced so that would be considered adultery in the Lord’s eyes of you did “marry” another person after divorcing for that reason. If you want the scripture for those 3 occasions, I’ll send them. Ultimately, if you get married you should stay with the partner forever. God did not intend for people to get divorcement. Jesus said that to the Pharisees. People get divorcement now for the hardness of their hearts
@@Big86morrell1 Yes. Jesus repeatedly condemns marrying a divorced woman even when she is innocent and even when she did not initiate the paper work of the divorce. Divorce and marriage are not mutually exclusive spiritually just as marriage and separation are not mutually exclusive according to the laws the state. When a husband and wife are separated they are still married by the law of the land. When a husband and wife are divorced they are still married by the laws of God. Divorce is not annulment. According to Gods word divorce does not end the marriage, only death does. You can be divorced and married at the same time. The marriage is in a divorced status so to speak. This is why we are commanded in scripture in cases like this to "remain unmarried or reconcile". Dont break Gods laws by marrying a divorced woman. God calls this adultery. Many explain marriage permanency doctrine away as it is so counter culture, but it is better to remain single unless there is a death.

Though I do not agree with the lifestyle, there is actually nowhere in the bible that condemns polygamy. It is discouraged and disqualifies you fron leadership positions, but it is not categorized as sin.
Exodus 21:10 If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights. Polygamy (specifically polygeny) was allowed in scripture and appeared to be practiced even in the church age (hence the qualification for elder being husband of but one wife) you can make the argument that God did not intend for polygamy but did allow it.
@@nathanmccumber8965 It is not the question what you can do but what is appropriate to do. You can do anything, but not all thing that you can do is right.
Not true, Jesus states in Matthew 19:8 "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard, but it was not so from the beginning." Meaning even Moses was not perfect, and moreso the times were not right. Divorce was never acceptable and polygamy is part of that, but an "exception" was made so to speak because of the era of Moses.
The word “fornication” is an English word that etymologically traces its roots to the Latin word “fornicationem”, a past-participle stem of “fornicari”, which means “to fornicate”, and is, itself, a derivative of the Latin word “fornix”, which originally referred to an arch or vaulted chamber but was used by authors such as Juvenal to mean “brothel”. The word’s earliest English usage appeared in Cursor Mundi, a Northumbrian poem published in the 14th century CE. Fornication, as it’s defined by modern English dictionaries, is “sexual intercourse that occurs between people who are not married to each other”. However, it is important to remember that this is a modern definition that should not be read back into ancient texts because the word didn’t exist when those texts were written. Only its use in association with Biblical texts (e.g. the Latin Vulgate) or Biblically-related texts (e.g. the Cursor Mundi mentioned above) produced that meaning. Originally it was used to refer to promiscuity or prostitution. Mark offered some verses as examples of “fornication” in the Bible. Let’s first examine the examples from the Hebrew Bible. Those verses are Genesis 38:24, Leviticus 21:9, and Deuteronomy 22:21. The Hebrew words in those verses that Mark wants us to believe translate as “fornication” are זָֽנְתָה֙ (Genesis 38:4), לִזְנ֑וֹת (Leviticus 21:9), and לִזְנ֖וֹת (Deuteronomy 22:21). However, when one compares English translations one can see that the only two translations that render זָֽנְתָה֙ as “fornication” in Genesis 38:24 are Young’s Literal Translation (published in 1862) and The Darby Bible (published in 1867). The only translation that renders לִזְנ֑וֹת as “fornication” in Leviticus 21:9 is the Jubilee Bible (published in 2000). The only translations to render לִזְנ֖וֹת as “fornication” in Deuteronomy 22:21 are The Darby Bible, The God’s Word Translation (published in 1995), and the Jubilee Bible. Additionally לִזְנ֖וֹת is translated to refer to some form of extramarital sex in the Good News Translation (published in 1976), the New Century Version (published in 1987), the New International Reader’s Version (published in 1996), and the Common English Bible (published in 2011). None of these translations are commonly used by scholars or pastors. The word that all three of those words are derivatives of is זָנָה, which is often used to refer to adultery or prostitution of some form. If one reads all three of the verses in context within the passages they belong to one can easily see that the authors were communicating that God disapproves of promiscuity. There is no condemnation of premarital sex. The New Testament verses Mark offers are 1 Corinthians 6:18 and 7:2, and Hebrews 13:4. The Greek words Mark wants us to associate with “fornication” in those verses are πορνείαν (1 Corinthians 6:18), πορνείας (1 Corinthians 7:2), and πόρνους (Hebrews 13:4). Once again, the same principle I covered above can be applied. Each one of those words is a derivative of πορνεία, which has a much more broad and undefined application as זָנָה in the Hebrew Bible example. πορνεία as it’s literally defined means a “surrendering” or “selling off of sexual purity”. It can also refer to promiscuity, similarly to זָנָה. Since there is nothing in the definitions of the Hebrew and Greek words to suggest a disapproval of premarital sex, the next question is: how does the Bible define marriage? Quite simply, actually. “Then the man said, ‘This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one shall be called Woman, for out of Man this one was taken.’ Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:23-24, NRSV) Notice in those two verses there is no formal declaration of marriage. No ceremony. No paperwork. Two partners identify one another as mates and consummate their relationship. The emphasis is on loyalty, not timing. In fact, Exodus 22:16-17 and Deuteronomy 22:28-29 are both examples that sexual intercourse can still occur before “marriage” and be acceptable. In conclusion, the Bible does not provide the reader with an explicit, definitive proscription of premarital sex, nor does it even demonstrate such a concept existed for ancient readers.
Matthew 19:4-5(KJV) And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Made to be husband and wife, one flesh. Ultimately, we are the bride of Christ, now apply that to your definition of fornication. Any sex outside of marriage is promiscuous. As we, from the beginning were meant to cleave to our wives. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point. Much love Jesus Christ is King
Matthew 19:4-6 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” 1corinthians 7:2-5 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. Why would these Bible verses advise marriage if you can’t control sexual urges. It implies that to have sex it has to be within context of marriage. It is very clear. It took a lot of mental gymnastics to try to find some loophole with the definition of sexual immorality to justify sex before marriage. But take a holistic view of the Bible’s message and it is clear what views are acceptable in terms of sex. How are you to reconcile the 2 verses above and still claim premarital sex is ok? If a verse advises you to be married if you can’t control yourself that’s a clear indication of what the legitimate contexts for sex means.
@billbader5755 The King James Version uses phrasing like “played the whore” or “playing the harlot” when rendering the Hebrew, again, suggesting promiscuity or infidelity. Meanwhile, the King James Version translates both πορνείαν in 1 Corinthians 6:18 and πορνείας in 1 Corinthians 7:2 as “fornication”. However, because of the difficulty in defining πορνεία due to its broad range and usage my conclusion is that the rendering of those words as “fornication” in the King James Version was a translator’s choice and most likely influenced by the Latin Vulgate.
@Raz0rIG The Bible does not define marriage in the same way modern readers do. I already explained that the concern of the authors was loyalty; not timing. Which explains Paul’s recommendation of marriage in 1 Corinthians 7:1-6; to prevent promiscuity or adultery. He did not explicitly outline the order of steps leading to a marriage being recognized. Your quotation of Matthew 19:4-6 is irrelevant and redundant because it simply quotes Genesis 2:23-24; my interpretation of which I’ve already included in my initial comment above.
Actually members of the LDS church do not practice polygamy and it’s very clear in their current teachings that it is not acceptable. Churches that have splintered off from the LDS (Reformed etc.) are the ones who practice this.
1 Corinthians 7:2 is usually the main verse used to argue against the practice of polygyny which states "Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband." However, when you examine the original Greek text for this verse, you will see that the word used for "own" when referring to the man in this verse is heautou (his Own wife) which represents singular only ownership and the other Greek word for own idios(her Own husband) which refers to the womens ownership of her husband can represent singular, plural, group or shared ownership. Two different Greek words both meaning "own" but the "own" used for the man (heautou, his OWN wife) always means exclusive ownership, however, the "own" used for the woman (idios, her OWN husband) can mean exclusive ownership or shared ownership. If you continue to read down to 1 corithians 7:4, this verse states the following: "The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife." This verse incontext is specifically talking about shared plural ownership of the flesh in regards to sexual relations between a husband and wife and the greek word used for own to represent this shared plural ownership is idios because the husband and wife both have equal authority when it comes to each others flesh in regards to sexual relations. All this this is dead iron proof that even paul considered polygyny as already apart of the marriage concept. Jewish could have multiple wives per the Bible. It was never condemned. In the book of Samuel. The prophet Nathan speaking on God's behalf told David God would have given him more wives if he but only asked! God seemed to condone it. I don't think we should practice it, but men could have multiple wives.
How you live has absolutely nothing to do with salvation at all. That's a service issue, salvation is absolutely free and not conditional upon service to God. That being said I serve God faithfully out of love and gratitude for the free gift of salvation 💘. Jesus is Lord God Almighty clothed in unsinful humanity and He is the author of ((eternal life)) to all who trust Him alone for salvation. I've always wanted to trade Crypto for a long time but the volatility in the price has been very confusing to me although I have watched a lot of RUclips videos about it but I still find it hard to understand.😔😔😔
I don't know how exactly to word this question, but... For sex before marriage, there's a difference between a marriage in the eyes of God and in the eyes of the government. It obviously means in the eyes of God, but how does that show God without the governments hand? Is the marriage the ceremony, or is it different? Can you be married in the eyes of God without being "legally" married (in the eyes of the law or Government)?
I had that same question last year. After giving it some thought, I came to the conclusion that being "legally" married doesn't count. My thought process: The U.S has man-made laws. The Bible has God's laws. Being "legally" married through a man-made law holds little to no value if you're not making that promise/vow to God. I would say, yes you can be married through God's eyes and not the Government. But again, this is my opinion. Based on my thought process.

because jesus fulfilled the law, we are no longer required to follow the old law. what that means is that the civil and ceremonial mosaic law no longer holds. God's eternal moral law does however. It is why we are permitted to eat pork, dress in clothes of mixed fibers, get piercings, tattoos, etc. as long as it does not cause yourself or someone else to sin the old law is gone. But laws regarding sexual morality are not a part of civil or ceremonial mosaic law.
@@red_phoenix0570 you were warned about the penmanship of the scribes. Every time you see the word inequity in the New Testament it is lawlessness. Jesus literally said he came not to abolish the law. Matthew 5:18. The biblical definition of sin is breaking commandments and the law. Which includes ignoring the Sabbath which is the easiest commandment.
@@pokemongoevolutions6308 ignoring the sabbath would be moral regardless, it's in the 10 commandments. We need to keep it holy. But just as I said, in the verse right before the one you mentioned (Mathew 5:17) Jesus says he has come to fulfill the law. No human is capable of fulfilling the law and prophecies. Jesus did, however. His sacrifice literally carried out what was necessary in the old law. It's why we no longer make sacrifices, and a large number of other things outlined in the old law. He was the sacrificial lamb. It's why with God's forgiveness we go to heaven. Without it, we would never because we are INCAPABLE of following the law. It's not that the old law doesn't exist anymore, it's that Jesus literally fulfilled it. It's finished. There will be more law and prophecies fulfilled when he returns.
Where do you come up with that? GOD instituted the marriage covenant between one man and one woman. Going back to Old Testament times, there were traditions associated with marriage. Taxes are man's law,but Jesus paid them! As long as it doesn't go against GOD'S laws, give Caesar what is Caesar's.
@@wg5768 Even you just admitted it's a ritual if man, and because we are not under the law of man we don't have to participate in them. Did Adam and Eve go through the ritual if a wedding, rings vows, etc? No! They were joined together as one by God, not men.
I thought this as well. I then remembered Jesus talking to the Samaritan woman and asking about her husband and how she had a few and now was living with someone who she wasn't her husband(John 4 16 to 18). I thought maybe my son who is living with his girlfriend longterm was OK because they love each other and only see each other. In Leviticus 18 it forbids the Israelites from having sex when the woman is menstruating. I am wondering if Christians should consider this forbidden as well. I realize we are under the new covenant and do not follow the ceremonial Mosaic laws, but Leviticus 18 also is where homosexuality among men, bestiality, and incest are all forbidden and it says that God will judge the pagan nations for these practices. If the ancient pagans were being punished for those practices, I think that is a sign that these practices are clearly forbidden for all of us, not just the Israelites. So, does that mean we should not have sex within marriage as Christians if the wife is menstruating? Is this sinful? I've never heard a pastor address this.
Yes, it is a sin. See also Lev 15.19, 20, etc. Believers are 'Israel'. Eg, notice in the verses below and also that our Father's laws still continue in the new covenant... Jer 31.33 Heb 8.8, 10 Heb 10.16

@@rlhicks1 It only clearly states it because it's seen in English. You're not looking at the Greek or the Hebrew. Fornication and adultery were not found among the polygynists but only one committed adultery by stealing a man's wife! However, in today's times, many pastors have led many astray with the belief polygyny is a grave sexual sin when in fact it's not. The Bible clearly states when adultery kicked in under King David. What the Bible did not clearly state was today polygyny is a sexual sin. The pastors say it is. No it isn't. If God is immutable, unchangeable, the definition of adultery hasn't changed. So has God's definition of what constitutes polygyny. What has changed is man's beliefs that polygyny is indeed a sexual so in. Who said that in the first place? The RCC. Who's now carrying it out? Pastors who don't even work for the RCC. Connect the dots
1 corithians 6 15-16 teaches that sex is marriage. Sex out of wedlock/premartial sex is unbiblical because sex is wedlock. Bible tells us in james 5 and matthew 5 not to swear oaths so the way we conduct marriage ceremonies is a sin in Christianity. Polygyny is not forbidden. Men in ot had multiple wives plus there are old testement laws that tell you how to conduct yourself with multiple wives. Adultery is any man, married or not, having sex with a married woman. You need a married woman to commit jewish biblical adultery. Married christian men can have more than one spouse unless he is a deacon, pastor or elder in the church. Those are the only 3 ppl banned from polygyny in the new testament. Majority of the western church doesn't teach the scriptures right when it comes to this topic and God is not pleased. it's showing in American society.
Jesus created a new higher standard by which we should live in the new testament. That is the standard by which we should live which includes NO POLYGAMY which in itself is adultery which so happens to be one of the ten commandments. Just because things happened in the old testament, doesn't mean they're permissible in Gods eyes. Caan smashed abels head with a rock. doesn't make it ok for us to do so to our own siblings. He's teaching this correctly.
@@Burgee_6289 what bible verses are you using to push your point? Let's see it. Jesus does ban polygyny. He used it as an example in a parable in Matthew 25 "parable of the 10 virgins" 10 woman trying to marry one man with only 5 being worthy for marriage. It slides to the church and the rapture but the parable used shows that polygyny isn't a sin because Jesus wouldn't have used it as a parable example. Jesus says if you divorce your wife in exchange for another, it's adultery. if I take up another wife and have two at the same time that's not adultery. He was condemning abandonment of a spouse not polygyny. Matthew 19:9 BSB [9] Now I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman, commits adultery.”
I agree with just about everything that you say in this video. It is well-presented and there is nothing wrong with "offending" people with the truth, so long as you do it in love, to point the way to Christ. I bring up the following point out of an interest in preserving the truth. Just to be clear, I do not support polygamy. However, not a single verse listed under polygamy on your list actually speaks against polygamy. The closest is the one in 1 Kings, but that does not speak against polygamy, rather it reinforces the command to not be unequally yoked with those who worship other gods. If you do have verses that actually address polygamy, I would be very interested to know the references, because I have been reading the Bible for years and have yet to come across a direct command to not engage in polygamy. Now, in Genesis and also in various other places in the Old Testament and New Testament, it is made clear that an one man/one woman relationship is the ideal. But ideal is one thing and expressly forbidden is another. Once again, I am not arguing in favor of polygamy, nor in any way endorsing it; I am, however, directly questioning your assertion that there is a Biblical basis for the express prohibition of it. If you can prove me wrong, I will happily admit it.
The bible never mentions specifically what a wedding ceremony constitutes. Paul speaks of taking on a wife. If a man and a woman have decided to stay together till death do they part and there is no cheating of any kind, they are married.
@@glenw-xm5zf if 2 people are committed before God to be husband and wife and they live together till death do they part, they have honored their vows before God. No where in the bible does it mandate a church ceremony.
Where are vows in the Bible regarding marriage? Answer: No where. Because our culture (western) dictates a formalised process, that then cannot dictate to all of the other cultures that have a totally different process of marriage. The Apostle Paul told the Church at Corinth "That you must not go beyond what is written" A culture has no authority to instruct GLOBALLY on the matter.
@@glenw-xm5zf You're 100% wrong. No vows were exchanged in the Bible, no witnesses during the first marriage. The only 'witness' in the first marriage (Adam & Eve) was the trinity, the only 'vow' was 'you are now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh'. Today's wedding ceremonies are purely human tradition. I'm not discounting marriage, as it's an important institution in God's eyes, but there is no denying that marriage ceremonies today are entirely human tradition and to be blunt, many of these traditions are heretical. I'm sure you think asking for a father's blessing over a marriage is 'in the Bible' too. Pro tip: it's not and is nowhere in the bible.
I notice for #3, NONE of the references explicitly condemn polygamy. The first two simply talk about Adam and Eve and the inception of marriage. Genesis 4 is an example of a man who had two wives and was vengeful, no connection between the two made. He's literally just telling his wives how he has avenged himself on people. 1Kings is the condemnation of Solomon, but that wasn't for polygamy, that was for leading the people into idolatry, which HE was led into by his many, many FOREIGN wives. And finally the 1 Timothy verses are talking about leaders in the church. Leaders specifically. I'm looking for verses that clearly say 'a man shall have only one wife' or 'having more than one wife is a sin' and I just don't see any. The closest I can see to justify polygamy as a sin in the US today is Romans 13:1 - Obey the government. In the US, polygamy is a sin simply because it's illegal by human standards. Can you give me anything more... root-justifying than this? We're explicitly told not to murder, and we see people being judged explicitly for murder. The same for adultery. The same for false witness. Idolatry, dishonoring God, all the regular sins.
Usually the truth is "offensive" lol. Pastor Mark, i have a question (and i hate to do it here, but...), my man and i did a marriage ceremony with God and the two of us. We said a prayer and gave ourselves and our relationship to God and asked Him to bless our union. Even though we aren't "legally" married, are we still married in God's eyes? We don't want to live in sin. ❤️
Hey! I’m in a similar situation as you and have been researching this topic extensively for a few weeks now. Hopefully I can help. Here’s an excerpt I came across recently: “The signing of a marriage certificate is an integral part of what the Bible calls a covenant. A covenant is made publicly before witnesses and with formal legal commitments that are taken seriously by the community… Contracts are signed out of the necessity spawned by the presence of sin in our fallen nature.” God calls us to respect the legal authority we are under. See Romans 13:1-2 and Titus 3:1 for example. Being legally married IS respecting God’s will. An option to explore is just going to your local courthouse and getting married there. Other than some processing fees, it’s pretty inexpensive. You could then have a wedding celebration at a later date! Hope this helps (: Not the pastor, nor a theologian, just my opinion!
How a *calvinist* should approach a person with *his* “gospel”: "Hi! I have good news for you! I don't know if God loves you, the most likely is that He hates you. I also don't know if He died for you on the cross, only a very few were chosen… But Listen!" Sad but true! This is the false gospel that is being preached in many churches. We need urgently to bring back the *powerful, simple* and *true gospel* summarized in *John 3:16.* If God says that He died for everyone, *it means that He died for EVERYONE:* *Isaiah 53:6* ; *John 1:29* ; *John 3:16,17* ; *John 4:42* ; *2 Corinthians 5:14,15* ; *Romans 5:18* ; *1 Timothy 2:6* ; *1 Timothy 4:10,11* ; *Titus **2:11* ; *1 John 2:2* ; *John 12:47* ; *1 John 4:14* ; *Hebrews 2:9* …etc Let's be very careful, let's not be found liars.
Here's another thing. You can be an adulterer if you sleep with a married person while not married to them. I had an instance, one instance 2 years ago, that made me want to give up sex for good. I still look at imagery, but stay away from physical contact. I feel like I don't deserve it.
The Law of Moses at the time only said that a king should not have “too many” wives, although it’s difficult to definitively say what the threshold of “too many” should be
@@rocksreviewsreactions337 Ok, but what was condemned was his idolatry as well as his marriages to foreign pagan women who obviously didn’t worship the one true God, not necessarily the polygamy itself. Like, I highly doubt Solomon would have turned to idol worship if he married and banged 1000 different Jewish women.
This was really really insightful, people don't categorize sex like this with scriptures on each. AMP bible shows your 1corinth 6:18 as "sexual immorality" BUT it says that includes visual. So, there's some overlap with the fornication and sexual immorality definition / words
I would like to add, if you've divorced for any cause and sleep with another woman, it is also Adultery. And if you also marry again while your first wife is also alive, then it is also Adultery. Read Matthew 5

A lot. There is a verse that specifically explains this:
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
(Matthew 7:13-14)
@@red_phoenix0570 That sucks. The Bible is actually really clear on that one.

Well said. they who try to justify and water down SIN are not of the lord. period
Look at #3
Anyone who thinks there won't be betrayal, envy, jealousy, and infidelity in that structure is beyond foolish and only justifying their sin.

@@Big86morrell1there’s only 3 grounds for divorcement in the Bible. Desertion, adultery, and death. So that should answer your question. She not committing adultery. @@Big86morrell1 Yes. Jesus repeatedly condemns marrying a divorced woman even when she is innocent and even when she did not initiate the paper work of the divorce. Not true, Jesus states in Matthew 19:8 "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard, but it was not so from the beginning."
Meaning even Moses was not perfect, and moreso the times were not right.
“Then the man said, ‘This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one shall be called Woman, for out of Man this one was taken.’ Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:23-24, NRSV)
Notice in those two verses there is no formal declaration of marriage.
Thank you for taking the time to share this. How would the same compare to what the King James Bible says?
Matthew 19:4-5(KJV) And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
1corinthians 7:2-5
But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

Polygamy 😂 yet some Mormons still do it because of what Joseph Smith allegedly said 😂
Actually members of the LDS church do not practice polygamy and it’s very clear in their current teachings that it is not acceptable. Churches that have splintered off from the LDS (Reformed etc.) are the ones who practice this.
Polygamy is biblical
I now live in Kenya. It's legal here to have up to 5 wives. It's a very strange concept to me.
Culturaly related presuppositional biases of monogamous only relationships is enforced in the christian church which came from early roman culture later followed by group councel meetings that were held between early christians leaders with popularity and credibility within the church where polygyny was deemed anathema, hundreds of years post canon (after the canon was closed).

The prophet Nathan speaking on God's behalf told David God would have given him more wives if he but only asked! God seemed to condone it.

Yep. Picking and choosing what they want to follow... Making up their own righteousness. Hypocrisy at its finest.
Marriage is man's law and we're not under man's laws, so if you're living together as one as instructed to do by God, your okay.
That Bible verse shows a distinction between marriage and living together.
I don't think the govt legal side of things is important, just the joining of a couple before God.
Hope I make sense explaining my opinion

@@dirkjensen969 What verses are you referring to?
Nope, not by a long shot.
See also Lev 15.19, 20, etc.

fornication in the bible is relating to cultic prostitution...how many years have you been teaching this and still not bothered to look up the words in hebrew or greek?
adultery is where a married woman is with another man who is not her husband or any man being with a married woman
MANY biblical men had more than one wife yet they were never called adulterers ...because they weren't
you have fornication and sexual immorality at both 1 and 9 when they are the same word - sheesh
I believe what the bible says and it defines my life but you are not teaching it by anything other than modern morality definitions
These pastors are carrying on with the same beliefs shared by a pagan church, the RCC.
No, it doesn't. The Bible clearly states what it is.
Read Galatians Ch 5 verses 21 and 22. just read it
1 corithians 6 15-16 teaches that sex is marriage.
Exactly
Jesus created a new higher standard by which we should live in the new testament. That is the standard by which we should live which includes NO POLYGAMY which in itself is adultery which so happens to be one of the ten commandments. Just because things happened in the old testament, doesn't mean they're permissible in Gods eyes. Caan smashed abels head with a rock. doesn't make it ok for us to do so to our own siblings. He's teaching this correctly.
@@Burgee_6289 god actually punished Cain for murder. However, god did not punish Jacob. Big difference.
I would then ask you why it would be banned for church leaders to have multiple wives, if God didn't to some extent despise polygamy?
Matthew 19:9 BSB
[9] Now I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman, commits adultery.”
what are your thoughts on getting married without registering it with the government?
Wrong. They are to exchange vows and be pronounced husband and Wife. Witnesses are necessary. Shacking up is fornication, and God hates it
@@glenw-xm5zf if 2 people are committed before God to be husband and wife and they live together till death do they part, they have honored their vows before God.
Well done!
Would you rather be single and go without sex or be married and have no sex? That is the reality for many men in the US.
Just wait till marriage.
Amen Pastor!❤️🔥
Usually the truth is "offensive" lol. Pastor Mark, i have a question (and i hate to do it here, but...), my man and i did a marriage ceremony with God and the two of us. We said a prayer and gave ourselves and our relationship to God and asked Him to bless our union. Even though we aren't "legally" married, are we still married in God's eyes? We don't want to live in sin. ❤️
Hey! I’m in a similar situation as you and have been researching this topic extensively for a few weeks now. Hopefully I can help.
Here’s an excerpt I came across recently:
“The signing of a marriage certificate is an integral part of what the Bible calls a covenant. A covenant is made publicly before witnesses and with formal legal commitments that are taken seriously by the community… Contracts are signed out of the necessity spawned by the presence of sin in our fallen nature.”
God calls us to respect the legal authority we are under.
Anyone know where the full teaching is?
Is it a sin to enjoy it?
To those of you who insist polygamy or divorce is acceptable because old testament people did it, please go back and read Matthew 19:8.
Just because people did it in the Bible doesn’t make it right. Practices like polygamy have always turned into a sinful spiral.

Here's another thing. You can be an adulterer if you sleep with a married person while not married to them. I had an instance, one instance 2 years ago, that made me want to give up sex for good. I still look at imagery, but stay away from physical contact. I feel like I don't deserve it.
Solomon, the third king of Israel (968-928 B.C.E.), is said to have had a harem that included 700 wives and 300 concubines. Is this adultery?
Yes, adultery, polygamy, of course, and, most likely, rape also. I doubt all those ladies were there out of their own free will.
The Law of Moses at the time only said that a king should not have “too many” wives, although it’s difficult to definitively say what the threshold of “too many” should be
yes a thousand times Yes
And Solomon was also known for turning his back on God after getting all those foreign wives. That's not a good excuse for many women.
@@rocksreviewsreactions337 Ok, but what was condemned was his idolatry as well as his marriages to foreign pagan women who obviously didn’t worship the one true God, not necessarily the polygamy itself. This was really really insightful, people don't categorize sex like this with scriptures on each. AMP bible shows your 1corinth 6:18 as "sexual immorality" BUT it says that includes visual. So, there's some overlap with the fornication and sexual immorality definition / words
