That's an interesting point but I would say that it's strange to not consider the possibility that your perspective could have been brought about through deception.
For centuries upon centuries Christians believed that slavery was ordained by God along with the inferiority of women.
Not two hundred years ago major leaders of American Christianity believed that not only was sex risky but that all sex was immoral along with spices and sugar.
From my perspective Purity culture is an extension of the same flawed tradition.
And I think that it's especially insidious when cultural ideas of sexual purity become more important than the gospel.

Not spiritual or sexual advice but alot of religious people just speaking like parrots, I am 34 years of celibacy and i broke Jesus record so take it for what its worth, Ive come to the understanding that lusting is an unatural desire of wanting some thing that some one else has and not being contented with what you have , Jehovah commanded that a man go into a woman then make her his wife, in this modern world they do things in reverse the have a wedding then go into the woman, the bible clearly states the opposite hence the reason i am in this predicament. Ive come to the understanding that prostitution is fornication, the doctor told me i need to do a semen analysis, few days ago i did some STI screenings and i have never had sex in my life of barely if kiss some one, ive been that celibate not because i am scared of women rather of hellfire growing up and also catching diseases i dont eat or drink from people too. with that said so the doctor is causing me to sin my soul and go to help, they say i need prostate check but they must stick a finger up my behind but some how that is not sodomy.. explain me this.,.. its only okay for when a DOCTOR or and EXPERT with their white privilege to do things 😒 then its okay the nurse had to touch my penis and stick a swap up it why?? because the doctor ordered it????

Masturbation is the most common and simple solution, having sex is a more complex alternative.
If you’re not willing to do either of those then maybe a hobby, exercise perhaps?

Get married. But if you're single: Don't turn to masturbation, you'll stay single for a longer time because it takes your motivation away from meeting other women. But don't beat yourself up too much if you cave in once in a while either. Just get fit, go outside and date multiple women if you have to - there's nothing wrong with that until you start taking someone seriously and you're saving a lot of time. The Bible teaches that sex before marriage is immoral in a couple of different passages. One is 1 Corinthians 7:2, which says, “But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.” In this verse, marriage is presented as the “cure” for sexual immorality. Sexual union within marriage, which is commended, is set against immorality, which is to be avoided. Thus, any sex outside of marriage is considered immoral. This would have to include premarital sex.
Another verse that presents sex before marriage as immoral is Hebrews 13:4, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” Here, we have both adultery and fornication contrasted with what happens in the marriage bed. Marriage (and sexual intercourse within marriage) is honorable; all other types of sexual activity are condemned as immoral and bring God’s judgment.

There’s also a much higher risk of problems, whether that be marrying too soon(because young Christians are horny) marrying someone your incompatible with or just the general fact that if you spend so long avoiding and often fearing sex, that doesn’t just go away when the vows are done.
To say nothing of toxic assumptions about sex or sexual roles, women who wait to have sex until they’re married often suffer much higher rates of vaginismus, which is attributed to them having sex out of obligation rather than genuine desire.

You focus on the wrong word. It's not sexual immorality that makes your case against premarital sex, but sexual greed. Greed is a much more solid notion than immorality, and implies anything you are drawn to out of an insatiable desire to have it. Then you have the third buzzword, impurity, which is a solid 10/10 unmistakable definition of whether you have done it or not.
Of course, all of this means little to nothing as linguistic nuance gets utterly lost in translation. So if you really want to follow the word of God, you better start learning Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, because ANY translation will be an interpretation of the translator, who without cultural competence (where cultural context can shift in as short as a few decades) can not have the innate understanding of the true meaning behind the words, the connotative meaning of the phrases... you know what? I'll just stop here instead of giving you a linguistics course.
Words can carry additional meaning beyond their straight translation. And no amount of paralel texts will teach you the zeitgeist of a culture to capture the nuance of every single word.
To genuinely adhere to the tenets of a religion, it is crucial to consider the cultural context that was present when the religious texts were originally written to understand the vernacular fully. That context is no longer possible to retrieve. All you can do is approximate it to the best of your capabilities, by studying the original language, and reading the original scripture, because even speaking about the imprecise nature of a translation in the language of a translation could be considered a form of the tu quoque fallacy.

That's very true, but it's also not what the text said.
Sure Greed could cross over into sexuality, but that is just one type of sexual immorality among many.
"Then you have the third buzzword, impurity, which is a solid 10/10 unmistakable definition of whether you have done it or not."
Not necessarily, it's definitely a meaningless buzzword.
But sometimes people can lose their "purity" just from extended time in the presence of the opposite sex.
It's an amorphous turn meant to be used to enforce whatever arbitrary biases of the speaker.
"Of course, all of this means little to nothing as linguistic nuance gets utterly lost in translation. Very true, but I'd also argue that there are many steps that people can take to improve accuracy of interpretation without learning several ancient languages..
It can be as simple as learning the parts of speech or as complicated as learning how translation works in an entirely separate language..
My studies in anthropology and linguistics certainly have helped me, but I've also spent a lot of time as an interpreter for unrelated languages and that's probably the biggest help to me when it comes to interpreting adjusting for difference in language.

I agree that sexual self discipline is definitely a very important virtue. However, whether sex is god or bad in God's eye cannot depend on the approval of a bishop, priest, pastor or state officer. This is most obvious nowadays when the same people also approve same sex relationships. In the bible it was usually the brides father that did the wedding. And fornication is basically voluntarily changing sex partners.

Jesus didn't up the standard. That a misreading of Mathew 5. The "you have heard it said" wasn't Jesus quoting the old testament but the scribes and Pharisees. And saying "but I say to you" wasn't a law but wisdom on how to become the type of person that would not commit these sins by dealing with the source attitude. The Greek word "a woman" often means "wife" so there is nothing wrong in being attracted to a single woman, that's not adultery anyway. The word "lust" or 'desire" is the same word used for covet in the Greek translation of the ten commandments"you shall not covet your neighbors wife"
Just meaning Jesus wasn't raising the standard just clearing it from religious interpretations. And the law of Moses weren't actually laws, as in legislation, but wisdom..torah is the correct word. Moses writings uses the Hebrew word "Torah"'which means instruction in wisdom... And it illustrates that with examples. I hope that explains what I mean. Most of the so-called laws of Moses begin with the phrase "If a man" .. if a man finds an indecency in his wife and he gives her a certificate of divorce and sends her from his house..."

Matthew 5:27-28 explained correctly. Jesus was not 'upping' the standard. He was pointing out the standard that was there all along.
A bad translation of this verse. In Greek, they don’t have a separate word for “wife” vs “woman”. They are the exact same word and only context can tell you which is which. The point Jesus is making is about adultery. Biblical adultery can only be committed when a married woman is involved. Therefore, the women mentioned here must be married. If she isn’t, then you simply can’t have the sin of adultery. It’s literally impossible.
A more accurate translation from the Greek, "but I say to you that everyone who gazes intently at a [married] woman in order to covet her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
All of a sudden, the whole verse makes perfect sense. Jesus says that if you covet your neighbor’s wife, you’ve as good as committed adultery with her in your heart. The issue is coveting another man’s wife, not noticing an attractive woman.
The Greek word Pros conveys intention. Jesus was talking about intentional, purposeful looking/staring here and that’s the first crucial point. Jesus is not talking about an accidental glance or catching a bit of flesh out of the corner of your eye.
“lust” in that passage is the Greek word “ἐπιθυμῆσαι” (epithumeó). It means to show focused passion as it aptly builds on (Gk epi, “upon”) what a person truly yearns for; to “greatly desire to do or have something - ‘to long for, to desire very much‘

    • @PrzybyszzMatplanety

That's actually bs. The Bible is quite straightforward about sexual immorality and defines it pretty clear: homosexuality (whether gay or lesbian), premarital sex, willful negation of procreation are morally wrong, ie. sinful. It's quite clear and if someone is defending different notions, they're either full of shit and/or uneducated.
For example: why was Joseph so troubled with accepting Mary and the Scriptures spin the tale of dream and angel messengers (buttery butter as "angel" by itself means "messenger")? Because being pregnant before marriage was clear sign of premarital sex and it was big no-no in Israelite culture.
Old Testament is clear about the fact that man laying with man (ie. having sex) is so bad that they're both basically dead already.
St. Paul mocked Roman pagans by stating God gave them to their shameful lusts and women were drawn to women in unnatural way, men to men (Romans 1:26-27).
And yes, there are people who try to play with the words and say that Paul used Greek word ἄρσενες in the meaning of "boys", not "men" - ie. Paul is condemning boy-man relations known in Greek culture - or that it have nothing to do with homosexuality at all but cult of Cybele (mother of gods and protectress of Rome), but it's all really sloppy scholarship as OT and NT as a whole are pretty consistent in absolute condemnation of any homosexual acts.

    • @ryangreene2159
      @ryangreene2159 Год назад +21

That's not entirely true, man did not define all of it. It specifically lists adultery and fornication as sins, as well as homosexuality and any form of lust. I don't know what version you're reading, but it's there, even if not spelled out to your liking. The Bible is inerrant, and the issue with people who think otherwise is that they're not informed enough to understand the consistency, and sometimes they're just looking for excuses to live the way they want even without realizing it. Sin is black and white, not grey, and it's our responsibility to apply the seemingly "vague" principles of the Bible to the different areas of our life. I don't know what you mean, there's only one religion that adheres to the Christian Bible which is Christianity. Muslims may worship the same god, but based on the claims of a man who came much later and the Koran. Maybe you're referring to different denominations of Christianity, in which case you're right that there are different interpretations of certain things, like baptism for example. There are certain grey areas of the Bible that Christians can agree to disagree over because they aren't as serious, but sin is not one of them. Sexual sin is laid out clearly enough for those willing to listen.

I'm not saying its OK because I don't know, but pornography and masterbation are not mentioned in the bible. Lusting after another woman when married is as in the case of King David and Basheba that seems obvious. But the scripture called song of songs is very explicit and some pastors will claim they are married, but that's not clear. Then what about married people that read this passage, is that like reading pornography? Too many question, too many opinions and not enough factual answers.

Masturbation is in violation to none of God's commandment. Anyone who claims it is sin teaches human bids, and is a heretic.
And Matthew 5:27-28 is one of the worst misused verses in the bible.
These verses are horribly taken out of context. First of all: OF COURSE adultery can only be commited as long as there is a marriage included in the situation. If you read the bible in its context you will understand that Jesus adressed the unallowed lusting for another man's wife. Nothing else.
It's about intentional desire to get what is forbidden according to the law.
A single man lusting for(wanting to get) a single woman is of course not sin. How could otherwise a man even search for a wife?

It's important to realize that the era of Jesus's teachings also demanded that women obey and submit to their husbands. So a man could marry a woman without any worry about what kind of wife she would be, and a woman would accept that whatever kind of husband he was, she was prepared to be obedient to him. He could be a total lout and an a**hole, but she had no choice but to do as he asked and stay silent. And she could insist on not doing certain things, and he had the authority to force her or force his way on her. (It wasn't a NICE thing to do, but it was his RIGHT, and no one would interfere, because the roles were understood.). That was the general culture. It's actually remarkable that we've come this far as a society that men and women find value in legitimately caring for each other, wanting to be kind to each other, and reaching compromises (at least, in SOME cultures... in many, it's still back the way it was 2000 years ago). And I think entering a marriage knowing your sexual compatibility is an important part of that. THAT SAID, the GOAL is ONE person you find to be your partner, not a high body count. And you can pretty much figure out sexual compatibility LONG before the actual ACT. I mean, that's what 1st, 2nd and 3rd base are all about. And really, just making out with someone you care about is a thrill to make last for as long as you can.

Not quite, fornication did not imply pre-marital sex when it was first used in translation five centuries ago, that connotation grew out of cultural biases, which are closely linked to the loss of inheritance rights for bastards in Britain.

God is pure and He wants us to be pure in our behaviour. Sex before marriage excludes God from the marriage covenant. I also feel that this is why so many relationships fail down the track. Looking at ANY unmarried woman with desire equals ADULTERY, a sin which commands DEATH as punishment.

It says that fornication is a sin and that includes sexual relationships with people before you are married, regardless of whether you think that you love the person and has a desire to eventually get married and have children, and definitely even more so outside of your marriage.

"and disrespects the idea of marriage."
      I fail to see how.
In fact, from my perspective treating marriage is if it were the vehicle for sex is so ludicrous that it diminishes both marriage and sex.
"Have you not read the Bible or something?"
I have indeed, I have a degree in theology and I'm afraid that they don't give those out for being pretty.
"Because that’s literally what it says."
      No. Incorrect.
The Bible literally never prohibits pre-marital sex. It makes maybe one specific allusion to it.
"God intended for sex to be marriage and reproductive purposes only."
The Bible definitely never says that.
Paul(in 1 Corinthians 7) referred to sexlessness in marriage as some sort of deprivation, so clearly sex involves some sort of mutual satisfaction apart from duty and reproduction.
"He also stated that “every man should have their own wife and every woman should have their own husband.”"
You might need to check your sources because it sounds like your misquoting from memory.
Paul explicitly states that remaining unmarried is preferable.
"Now to the unmarried a and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do."
      1 Corinthians 7:8
"That means that He does prohibit pre-marital sex "
That does not follow, even if Paul said that people should be married, which he didn't, that doesn't mean that he things sex should be limited to marriage; that's an entirely new concept.
"It says that fornication is a sin and that includes sexual relationships with people before you are married"
The Bible never says this, you are applying a modern definition to a medieval word.
If you do insist on using five century old translations, please do consider learning more about the English of the period so you can avoid these blunders.
"regardless of whether you think that you love the person and has a desire to eventually get married and have children, and definitely even more so outside of your marriage."
These are all just your personal preference, it has nothing to do with the meaning of the word, it certainly has nothing to do with the scriptures.

Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage should be honored by all, and marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge both the adulterer and and all the sexually immoral.” What this is saying is that marriage and sexual intercourse only within marriage is honorable and any other types of sexual activity are condemned as immoral before God’s judgement. The Bible honors marriage and therefore it is strongly promoting abstinence before marriage. Before marriage, the couple have no binding Union and they have no sacred covenant without marriage vows and they therefore still don’t have the right to have sex without that. It’s more about just love but an official legal binding union and vows. And literally “according to whom”? And “by what authority”? Um…God Almighty’s say and authority. That is not true, it is _you_ who are assuming that abstinence is the only morally correct way to honor a future marriage.
"Before marriage, the couple have no binding Union "
Yes, but somehow people date and meet one another anyways.
" and they have no sacred covenant without marriage vows"
Covenants are never described as part of marriage in scripture, and they are described separately from marriage.
This point doesn't make sense and it is irrelevant.
You don't need to be eternally bonded to someone to have sex with them.
"and they therefore still don’t have the right to have sex without that."
Adam and Eve never had a covenant or marriage vows and yet we all still got here.
and of course people can have the "right" to have sex, it's not granted by marriage, it's granted by the willingness of a partner.
You don't get to decide how other people behave.
"It’s more about just love but an official legal binding union and vows."
      Yes, of course, duh.

No darling, everything that was said in support of your conclusion was said by you, not by God or scripture.
If you are unable to separate your personal opinion from God you should work on that.
"Several Biblical verses state exactly that."
No they don't. You are lying.
Because if any verse said "exactly that" you would have shown it already, instead of quoting what is essentially a random verse about marriage and then inventing a story about what it supposedly really means.
"That sex before marriage is still a sin by God’s word and authority."
      You made it up.

@@Grokford There are Laws in Levitical law that apply, although that is somewhat less important, basically besides the 10 Commandments, keeping the Old Testament in mind, the New Testament teaches a form of virtue ethics, it teaches a virtue ethical framework, not a simply only a list of everything that is morally permissible and everything that is impermissible, it teaches someone what virtue looks like, what it is to be ethical in hopes to guide their future actions. A tenet of virtue ethics is that you have to study the circumstances in the natural world to know what the virtuous action to take will be, knowing natural facts is an important element for us to know how to act virtuously.
Premarital sex may be a sin, but if it's not it's certainly not virtuous nor good if you dont marry that person. If you read Exodus 22:16 KJV, it's obviously a bad thing to have sex with someone and not marry them, the Levitical application would have you marry that person, but as we are not under that law anymore, you would not be forced to marry her but that does NOT mean that it's not a sin nor not immoral. This is a case by case basis as there were also ritual laws, but the distinction is clear in biblical context, for example it was not wrong to eat certain foods because those foods were immoral, it was wrong to eat those foods because God told you not to at the time and it would be openly disobeying God, but it was wrong to have sex with a woman, defile her and not take responsibility because it was immoral. There is objectively nothing good about having sex and not marrying that person, but there are objective benefits to marrying that person, that is good.

Honestly, this is disappointing, you go through the trouble of revealing the controversial fact that the Bible never condemns pre-marital sex, and then you repeat folk etymologies based of human tradition.
The original Greek has No connotations of marital status, it made no specific claims at all, that’s why modern translations used “sexual immorality” because it was not specific in the original language either.
Trying to specify without other biblical evidence is just creative writing.
Especially when you push the very modern 1 Man+1 Woman=Marriage idea.
There is no definition of marriage in scripture, God is never described as creating marriage. The passages people reference for those claims are explanations for contemporary behavior not rules or claims about all relationships.
Obvioisly the Bible readily recognizes polygamous marriages too.

I also hate it when people talk about “God’s standard” when they mean their personal interpretations and opinions.

Leaving your spouse yes, having more than one partner no.
It is not aa divorce to marry two people.
" He also said not to look at somebody with lust because that's a form of adultery."
No. More accurately, he said looking _to_ lust is an act of adultery.
But it's not adultery if there is no agreement or relationship to adulterate.
If you are not violating the terms of your relationship then there is no adultery.
"That said premarital sex isn't the same as getting married which makes the situation rather bad because then the other person might become somebody else's spouse,"
      Why is that a problem?
All of us are many things, am I any less a brother or a son because someone treats me as a friend?
"hich would mean you were lusting for someone who wasn't for you."
That's not true, marriage is fine but it's not the single domineering relationship of human life.
Do we waste our friendship on people who aren't in our lives forever? Do we waste kindness on strangers? Of course not, so why then is Loving(sexually or not) a problem just because they might not be long term fixtures?
"If you do only have premarital sex with one person and then marry that person, that's not a very good basis for a marriage either because until you're married you're single"
I don't get your meaning, most people are single until they're married.
Why should that impact a marriage?
"and don't know the future, so you shouldn't be taking such risks"
None of us _ever_ knows the future.
You are no more guaranteed a partner on your wedding day than you are in your first crush.
Marriage is not a change of eternal status, it is a change of current priorities.
"you shouldn't be taking such risks as sex because it can cause more harm than good for you and the other."
      What harm?
I don't share the presumption that sex is evil or harmful inherently.
And perhaps more importantly, have you considered the harm of the alternative?
Sexual shame and ignorance are not without their victims, in fact most of the victims of sex are hurt by ignorance and fear, not by the sex itself.
"That isn't how love should be."
And who are you to say?
Love is infinite, it does no always appear the way you imagine.
The real question we ought to be asking ourselves is why is sex(not Love) distinct from other practices and where is it appropriate.

Fornication is also sleeping with father or mother, sleeping with your own brother or sister, sex with animals, when a man has sex with another man, etc. Sex before marriage is a sin for virgin women! Why? Because virgins belong to their father's and a dowry is paid for her. Virgins must also prove that they didn't have sex before marriage by presenting a bloody sheet after the marriage is consummated. If blood is not found, she is to be put to death. That law is not for every woman. NOW, PROVE ME WRONG!

1:23 This is actually not the case. Nowhere in the Bible is there a definition of sexual immorality. It is, in fact, depending on the context. That means that God did not define it once and for all, but the society we live in does. In western culture, sex is permissible if the partners consent to it while the have the power to decline it.
1:28 That the man leaves the parent's household and moves to the woman's household is a description, not a proscription, so no commandment. If it was a commandment, then there has never been a Christian who followed it, since in patriarchy, the woman moves to the man's household, and in modern western society, man and woman start a new household together. Besides, while Gen 2:24 (which Jesus quotes here) limits the man to one woman, there is no limit given for the number of men the woman can have. This indicates that "God's design", if there is one, is not patriarchal.
2:19 The English translations of this verse is wrong. It does not say "with lust" or "with desire". It says "in order to covet". Jesus is referring to the tenth commandment that prohibits to covet the wife of another man. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the view of a beautiful woman. It is a calling for men to do that.
3:02 There is no evidence whatsoever that sex is bad for the body. On the contrary, there is plenty of evidence that sex is very beneficial for one's health. What Paul is referring to here is the fact that the body of a Christian is the temple of God's spirit, and as such it should not connect to the temple of an idol by having sex with a temple prostitute.
3:15 You have not at all stated what God says in his word. Instead the author only stated what her own bias reads into the text. And she has ignored some important things the Bible teaches regarding sex.
The Song of Songs celebrates sex before marriage. The female protagonist says she didn't protect here vineyard, she meets her partner outdoors and wishes he was her brother so she could kiss him in public. That is all evidence for the couple to not be married. The Song of Songs also gives the female protagonist the leading role. That is another blow against patriarchy.
In the mosaic law it was entirely permissible for men, even married men, to have sex outside of marriage and have multiple wives and concubines. In patriarchy men suppress the sexuality of women in order to enforce a male bloodline. In Gen 3:15, however, God assigned the bloodline to the woman, even after the Fall. So there is no support for patriarchy in the Bible, and the rules given are based on societal norms.
The final blow against patriarchy comes from Jesus himself in Matthew 19 (which the author quotes) when he permits divorce only if the woman commits sexual immorality. So the power to end the marriage is with the woman, and she can only be divorced, not killed, as the mosaic law required.
