I have gotten multiple years out of my Jansport backpacks, and still look pretty much brand new. I am also not rough on my bags. That was one of 2 backpacks that really used during my college years.
These things are beasts. I love my JanSport Hatchet and the little taco pouch that doesn't exist anywhere anymore. I do love the fact that the pockets don't eat into each other's space.
Kudos for doing a budget backpack review. And a pretty detailed one despite its simplicity. Coincidently i just bought Jansport Double Break for my boy.
I have a connection with jansport! Great backpacks 30 years ago I had a version of a SUPERBREAK! I love that backpack,my wife is an artist. she drew cartoon character. Great back backpack. Jansport is a wonderful and always have backpacks that fit every one’s budget. Here’s to another 50 years!
I had that backpack and last me 7 years until I gave it away from going to school to trips around my country, I don’t know now days, but back in 1999 it was a great backpack.
I still have a Jansport Fifth Avenue Hip pack and it's still in great shape, it's 8 years old. I change bags so much though that I haven't given that thing a real heavy use but still it's surprisingly durable for the price point.
the zip tag thing is not a mistake. You use the one tag to tie it to the other zipper to prevent it from accidentally opening or being opened by a pickpocket
Thank you, Aaron, for doing a review on JanSport. I would say that I kinda think this particular bag is intended for either Jr/Sr HS students or the budget-conscious; for those customers, JanSport rocks. Their Campus bags are a bit better. And yeah, they don’t offer much built-in tech protection, so protective sleeves/cases are a must. But they also hold a ton, and are pretty indestructible (my wife has a Campus that lives on the back of her chair and carries what feels like 30lbs of stuff). Definitely not accessible for the visually-impaired who need organization, but all those PU coated YKK AquaGuards are neigh inaccessible for anyone who has muscle control issues. For the right customer, they’re perfect. 👍
Started using Jansport when I was in uni (some 10+ years ago lol) and my bags are still going strong. I used to carry a lot of very heavy and big nursing books and none of my Jansport bags ever broke. I tried Herschel and it broke after 2 years. 😅 don’t think I can switch anymore and will stay loyal to Jansport. I want to try Fjallraven but they don’t really do sales and is quite expensive. 😂
The Superbreak has only one pull-tag and same with some other models. You can remedy the dangling straps by looping them around the base of the strap. The best basic backpack I've seen is the Eastpak Padded Pak'r Backpack--weatherproof nylon material, great zippers, and wide straps.
Jansport is such a classic!! Used to seem them a lot here, in mainland Europe. The one you used to see most, and still see a lot, is the Eastpak. That seems to be a mainstay amongst the young'uns and also makes some cool, affordable packs.Cheers, Chris
Super hard disagree on the video,I've had a Blue Jansport I've been using for almost 20 Years and besides needing a wash it looks pristine with constant use as a nomad. Possibly the best ($15-$20?) Ive spent in 2004 dollars. Id buy another without even thinking about it.
I am about 2 minutes-something into the video, and to my understanding, I swore the regular Super Breaks bags do not have the water bottle pocket, but the Super Break Plus bags do? Maybe? I thought that's what I found while checking out their bags. I could be mistaken, tho.
@@Nomads.Nation Ok, so after looking on their site, the regular Superbreak backpacks DO have a water bottle pocket. BUT. Apparently, there's the Superbreak, the Superbreak Plus (which, too, has a water bottle pocket AND a laptop compartment), and then there is your bag which is a Superbreak One. I cannot find the Superbreak one on Jansport's site, so I'm thinking it's a discontinued variation of the Superbreak. And it appears that the Superbreak One does NOT have a water bottle pocket. Mystery SOLVED. My job here is done. 😁
@@Nomads.Nation lol it was bothering me. I went back to your Amazon link, and I found there IS a red one pictured with a water bottle pocket, but I figure that Amazon just put up a wrong picture for the bag, but maybe that is the one you thought you were getting?
How did you get the version without the water bottle holder or laptop sleeve? I keep looking everywhere, but all they have are the low-quality versions with those additions.
yea, these big companies (like Osprey, Nike, etc) move so fast with iterations and they never make announcements or update their websites, so its very difficult to know what is available and what is out of stock
For me, here's a lot of nostalgia with Jansport. I bought one when I began college in 88ish, and dropped it in the trash in 2018. It was a school bag, teacher bag, and finally a beach / pool bag. It was kind of gross at the end.
The use transparency with this bag is off the charts. Thing doesn't draw _anyone's_ attention, even your own. Nothing to brag about. It just functions as a backpack, not as a statement. That being said, the quality of this bag is like $10 in my opinion. $40 seems ridiculously expensive for a bag this bare-bones
Aaron while I loved this review - I can’t abide by Jansports after spending $50 on a Main Campus pack and finding it to be the worst backpack I’ve ever bought. Later donated it to a charity that was looking for school supplies for kids.
@@rbaziuk4053 the straps weren’t wide enough for me so they were uncomfortable. Laptop sleeve was small for my liking and it was touch trying to get a 15” Dell into it. Water bottle pocket is that mesh netting type that I knew wouldn’t last. Zippers felt incredibly plasticky and cheap. Main pocket was okay but didn’t offer much space and for my job at the time, I was bringing a jacket or hoodie and my lunch and that was a struggle. The outside pocket was okay but as I started to carry more EDC items, I couldn’t keep them organized (I’ll admit to some OCD). Top carry handle - yeah. That stitching. It has a real polyester crinkly feel to it and I don’t like that noise. If I hadn’t taken the tags off I could have maybe exchanged it at the store I bought it from or maybe reached out to Jansport directly but I was so annoyed I ended up donating it and I’m sure it found a better home. I now use this hiking/camping backpack from Walmart and I’m still searching for the right one.
I have had Kankens, Ogio, Jansports, Timbuk2, etc., and while those are all great for different uses, I always default back to Jansport. My sons both used the same Jansport backpacks throughout their ENTIRE elementary through highschool years. They never needed, nor requested, new backpacks. I used, I think, a Big Student backpack through college, and I carried a ton of sh!t, and tossed that bag everywhere. It went through it, and it never even had a snag or scuff anywhere on it. I just ordered a Main Campus for work (to carry my lunch, tablet, work binder, and everything else I bring to work). So affordable and durable for *my* uses. But I don't go hiking in Illinois, and my bag is not typically exposed to various weather conditions. ❤❤
