- Gregory Peck - amazing performance worthy of the academy award he received.
(I do not own the copyright to this film. I simply want to spread the joy of a special movie moment, and encourage people to seek the entire film)
I”ll never forget watching this scene in high school where everyone, especially the boys, were cheering for Atticus to just punch that douchbag after everything he’s done. But when Atticus cleaned his face, glared at Bob Ewell, and walked away without never losing his dignity, the whole class was in awe for how cool Atticus made it look. To defeat someone without throwing any punches. Atticus Finch, you truly earned your place in the American Film Institute’s #1 Hero.
Lol I actually was one of those boys who rooted for him to slap back and everyone else agreed in class
I was hoping for that too
You see bob back away when Atticus comes closer .
I think that shows how much of a coward he really is as a character.
@@vgg31 totally agree with you there. I think Bob Ewell just wanted to provoke Atticus enough that he'd stoop to Bob's level and spitting in someone's face is about the lowest thing you can do. I've had the same happen to me when I used to work in customer service this dirty bastard spat in my face over something trivial and my reaction was like a bomb going off and acting dignified went out the window!! I won't repeat the language I used but the air was blue! The guy legged it as soon as I went to come out from behind the counter and he's lucky the door was locked because me unlocking it gave him time to run and get away. Had I got my hands on him it would have been a murder scene. It's the most disgusting thing ever to have someone spit in your face it really shows their contempt for people when you cross that line and go that low.
Atticus would have broken Bob Ewell in half .
However Atticus has forbidden Scout from fighting, So Atticus must lead by example.
Cuz he's a bitch. Coward who abuses his daughter and picks on much weaker people
This guy got some self control.
Not just that but dignity, common sense and strength..anybody else we would had loved seeing them kick his ass but not Atticus
Atticus just stared him down and that scared him more than anything else
I still think he should have said something along the lines of ''Stop beating your daughter.'' before leaving.
@@Gab98Spyro "Beating" *&* raping.
Yep, and the act that all Atticus had to do to scare Bob was stare him down, was the reason Bob went after Jem and Scout.
And, his cowardice to go after Atticus' family became his downfall, quite literally with a knife
Atticus could've have flattened Bob Ewell with a single slap. You can see for a moment that he wanted to, and cowardly Bob sensed this. That Atticus held back says everything about the strength of his character.
Knowing how filthy the environment bob ewell lives in being spit on by him has to be 100x worst than being spat on by anyone else
I remember watching this scene in class and when Bob spat in Atticus' face, I said out loud "That's just disrespectful" and my teacher was like "You're right." THE DISCUSSION AFTERWARDS THO!!! Everyone was upset that he didn't knock him out but we understood why he didn't and we all agreed that spitting on someone is beyond disrespectful and to flinch after you do it is a cowardly move.
Atticus is amazing. When I read the book, I was more on empathizing the kids more. I know how Atticus was, but seeing the movie helped me grasp him better. After getting a little older, I feel like I could get his perspective better. That one saying about understanding others by walking in their shoes may be a part of it, but with age.
We all need to be more like Atticus
Was waiting for Atticus to one-punch the guy
I've never hated someone more than Bob Ewell in a novel
Alas, there are plenty of Bob Ewell types running around today.
I didn't like him, but I hated Frank Bennet in Fried Green Tomatoes even more. Supposedly, the actor (Nick Searcy) isn't much different from the part he played. Maybe, that is the reason why he played the role so well.
Archibald Cunningham in Rob Roy is just as bad, if not worse.
“I wish he didn’t chew so much tabacco”
Did you notice that Ewell almost shit his pants waiting for Atticus´one-punch-reaction? What a coward. . . Sincerely GdN
If only Atticus wasn’t so much of a gentleman, he would have started a fight or somthing
Bob Ewell would've *"started"* the fight, but Atticus might've finished it.
Bob Ewell wanted Atticus to attack him, but Atticus showed that he was the better man by not sinking to Ewell's level.
"With great power comes great responsibility."
That's why Atticus didn't take a swing at him.
If Atticus wasn’t such a gentleman he would’ve folded him
Sometimes, silence is a weapon
Bob Ewell is an absolute villain.
Makes any of those horror movie guys such Michael Myers a choir boy .
Just by Atticus stepping closing to the guy and he backs away, Atticus pretty much showed who was the more dominant one in this encounter.
Ewell is not a very big or imposing man and used to whaling on his children and Mayella so he is obviously scraed when an grown man steps up to him
0:59 TPUFFFF
He turned the other cheek. Atticus was Christ-like in this scene.
If looks could kill....
Atticus no doubt didn’t react cause he knew Jem was their and didn’t wanna start a fight with his son watching.
Well said, Bob
Ewell shrinks away after Atticus stares him down, even he thought he was going to get clocked
Atticus knew he won when he took a step forward and Ewell stepped back, proving he is just a coward.
Who else is watching this for a essay💀
I am
I am
I am
an* essay.
Atticus's better than me, no doubt.
Love seeing this punk look so scared and shaking going up against Atticus!
Look at him flinch when Atticus takes one step towards him. Such a coward
I thought Maycomb was a real town but it was actually just a fictional town
He's such a coward. He beats up and violates people who are smaller and younger than him but then when someone else looks like they're ready to fight him and they are his size or larger you can see him backing away
His son was the same way in the novel, verbally abusing the teacher until another male student confronted him and he was scared.
The things black people had to endure in these times. Getting called "boy" is already despicable behavior, let alone by someone you have about 20 years or more on.
"i d like if bob ewell dont chew tobacco"
(i dont know the original i red the book in spanish hehe)
Atticus could've knocked him out here with a punch. But by reacting as he did, Atticus knocked him out far harder.
Old south
I saw this movie when I was a kid back around 1970. I could have swore Mr. Ewell called Mr. Finch a n word lover? Maybe cut that line out.
This was basically the old-timey version of the scene from The Last Jedi where Luke brushes his shoulder like a boss
Bob Ewell? More like Bob EWWWell
Ewwww😝😝😂😂
If i was attius i would bet his ass
Farmer look like George Bush
Bob Ewell?
