    I’m tackling this job soon and from all the research I’ve done you have to unbolt the motor mount and lift the engine to get the headers out. That was the most intimidating part for me and you showed me the engine doesn’t need to be lifted! Thanks for the confidence boost, it’ll last until I probably snap a stud knowing my luck lol

      You got it! Give yourself a good amount of time and don’t worry about taking it slow. I got super lucky with the studs for sure but still gave myself a 4 day window to work on it. Let me know if you have any questions!

    Thank you for the video!! I own a first generation Sequoia 2001 with 315K, this job that you just did is going to be required soon.

    Just picked up some cheap new JBAs on Facebook. Now I just need to convince you to take a FL vacation.

      Hahah maybe it’s time for a road trip! Good job finding them on marketplace! It’s almost impossible to find Sequoia parts on Facebook!

    Anti seize is your bff when dealing with bolts that heat and cool down. The gaskets are meant to be slipt that way. Their not traditional paper gaskets. I bought my sequioa without cats so i had to put them on and of the 6 bolts connecting to the headers it felt like i had snapped the bolts but it turns out you just need a confident pull for it to snap and then i could remove the nuts. Super cool man.

      Thanks so much! It‘s scary pushing that hard on the bolts isn’t it!? Especially considering what would happen if you snap a stud…yikes!

    big props to you. just had a shop do the driver side and it was $1400 including oem parts. subscribed!

      Thanks so much, I really appreciate that! I got a quote for $4,500 (parts and labor) and that was the moment I decided I'd rather suffer for 1-2 days than pay that price haha!

      It actually doesn’t sound much different with just the headers. However, my friend just helped put together an entirely new 3” exhaust. I’ll share footage soon!

    Nice work Maxwell! That was a tough job. I've been wanting to do this exact job with the JBA headers since they claim to add around 25hp and 35 tq, which is impressive. But after watching this, I think I might just pay a shop to do it. Are you a mechanic by trade? I see your Subaru hoodie and wondered if you work there as a mechanic?

    • @maxwell.peters
      @maxwell.peters  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks! Definitely was a challenging project! I’m not a mechanic, the Subaru sweatshirt has just turned into my dedicated car project “uniform”😂

    How were the gains after you installed them? A lot say that shorties make you lose performance but I have a set for my 07 sitting in the garage waiting to be installed and wanted to see if it was worth my time putting these on or not.

    Hey I’m new to the sequoia scene, those yellow lights on the hood are very nice. What brand are they by chance if you remember? Appreciate and you have a very clean sequoia 🫡

      Welcome! I added links to both the ditch lights and ditch light brackets in the description of this video but you can also view them here:

      Ditch Light Brackets: amzn.to/3JfIofx
      (The ditch light brackets say they're for a tacoma but I can confirm they fit on 1st gen Sequoias as well!)

      Just cut the stock bumper with an angle grinder! Super easy and took less than an hour!

    I have a 2002 Sequoia and pretty sure I have the same exhaust problem. Did the new headers actually fix the problem ? I am sick and tired of the exhaust.

    • @maxwell.peters
      @maxwell.peters  4 месяца назад

      I don't know if its 100% fixed but I will say it is wayyyy better. I can accelerate with basically no exhaust smell anymore. The ticking sound is also gone. I do get some smell when windows are down (especially the back window) but from what I've heard, that might be normal for driving with the back window down. Hope that helps!

    Appreciate the video. Is the exhaust louder with these headers and did they help/improve acceleration?

    • @maxwell.peters
      @maxwell.peters  4 месяца назад

      The exhaust wasn’t really any louder after installing the headers. However I did do a custom exhaust after this video which did make it louder! I didn’t notice and acceleration differences, it’s still a big and slow SUV😂

      It actually sounded pretty much the same after installing the headers. Don’t worry I did an entirely new 3” exhaust right after this and it sounds a lot different now! I’ll post footage soon😁

    Did you get a check engine light after installing the headers?

    • @maxwell.peters
      @maxwell.peters  Месяц назад

      No CEL from the headers themself. However with my new exhaust, I'm pretty sure I've blown out my catalytic converters. Been dealing with a P0430 code for a while now.
