Sitting here watching this video on a Sunday night, so happy I don’t have to go my cube tomorrow morning. I was miserable at my job due to management. I finally decided to let go and although I’m somewhat scared, I know this will be the best decision I’ve ever made. I told myself I would never let any amount of money or great benefits keep me somewhere I’m not happy. Best of luck to anyone going through the same thing!

When one door closes, you will find another one opens. Sometimes the hardships you may come across going through this transition can be a moment to reflect on yourself and your overall situation. Never give up. You will be just fine in the end. Nothing feels better than to tell your supervisors, to go fu©k themselves. Something we all want to do, but suppress on a daily basis. Just remember.." your in charge."

I honestly have no idea if or when I'll ever be able to go back to work. The best advice I could give someone is to leave as soon as a job starts getting bad. It will never get better and just continue to get worse. Prioritize your health and quit right away. Do not wait until you're suffering from burnout because you may never fully recover. It's an uphill battle and all for a paycheck.... what a waste. I wish I could go back in time and quit sooner or have never even worked there to begin with.

When you are the star performer, management gets the bonuses not you. They push you harder and harder to produce the numbers and you just get so stressed out you hit a brick wall exhaused wondering "why am i doing this?" I'm not going to get a bonus or even more than a
15 cent raise for the year. But your boss is happy cause he got the $500 bonus on his next check not you.

I quit my job for mental health reasons. I got great feedback from clients and colleagues. I was being paid reasonably well. In the end, there were too many broken promises. I knew I deserved more and I was never going to get it. I had to see other (less competent) people get promotions because of their connections. The atmosphere was also toxic. I left and have no idea when I will be able to get a job that pays anywhere near as much. But...I had to do it.

but who ever created workplace 2.0 doesn't understand that people need their personal space to thrive and do their best creative work in an office. It's that lack of cubicle or office space that makes me want to leave my job because they think we will be more collaborative. I currently work for someone who micromanages everything I do. Nothing is ever good enough. I feel as though he is always looking for something I’ve done wrong and never notices all of the things I do right. One minute everything is fine and my boss and I are extremely close, the next minute he can be having a bad day and decide to take it out on me. I know that I am a good employee, I just feel like I am drained and have anxiety about going to work.

Most leader today doesn't know how to lead. The wrong people are getting promoted. If your good at your job, you get overloaded with the expectation of doing your job and most of someone else's. No appreciation, little to no raises or bonus and in my case asked to continue working at this high level at a lower salary, then reading that upper level managers got huge pay increases. I QUIT! When the culture is brutal, toxic, rude, and uncaring-- you don't owe them one more second of the goodness that makes you a fabulous person. We went from a culture with a flat hierarchy, open collaboration, and endless possibilities, to small, isolated silos, with the new manager creating a foggy, chaotic, goose chase where the focus of everything seems to be his needs before even the clients. Thank you for this Christie! I experienced extreme burnout as an employee last year that, others on the outside thought I had the perfect job (the pay, the title, etc.), but being the overachiever I am and my drive to learn and teach others and make a difference was such a passion, the environment I found myself in was detrimental to my health and sanity. I was stuck in a dysfunctional toxic and non-directional environment, and I felt hopeless that I couldn't solve everyone's problems (because I was known for fixing anything!)......I was forced to take the burden of others who refused to do more than the bare minimum, and although had the "title" to make a difference, was not supported to enforce nor encourage change for the better.... I no longer loved my job, lost all hope and confidence.... and I could no longer work in that type of environment... I have to have purpose and see direction, drive, and support of those I am to be working with or answering to. I am still in recovery from the PTSD it caused, and I am starting my own business so I get to choose who I will work with and the culture I allow around me.

There is a big lie that everybody can be replaced. Managers and executives use that tool as a contingency for staff turnover. I agree that you could replace anyone but I don’t believe that there is no loss in doing so. A good performing vested employee it’s an asset for the company no matter how you look at it. If you bring a new one I don’t care that they come in from Harvard or Oxford. You will need to invest money in training and getting them to the level of the person that you lost.

I agree that the company culture is set by employers and must be regulated by leaders. By position, I am a manager, but in reality I am just a super staff. I really wish that my employers understand the concept that we need to evolve in order to step out from the survival mode. I know that old fashioned semi dictatorial boss-staff relationship works. But, it is such a stressful relationship especially for the subordinates. Some people needs room to grow, and some happy with the routine. I need to grow.
