Nice work, thanks! If you’d pick up another one I would actually wait until Røde releases an updated version that’s compatible with their free Røde Connect app, which would boost its value proportion even more. Since it is already a USB-mic (as you have rightfully pointed out) it only makes sense for me that they update it for Røde Connect. That would be amazing. Currently it only works with the NT-USB Mini and surely they will make more mics comptible with it down the road. I for one am actually holding back all my mic purchase decisions until they do…

No problem, and thanks! That's a really good point...I wonder if that's something a firmware update could unlock to some current models like the VideoMic NTG (if they wanted to do it...), say vs. a limitation of the current NTG's internals.

@@andrewsaraceni unfortunately I think it’s down to the mic internals, but who knows? No-one would’ve guessed that the NT-USB mini would be capable of handling Røde Connect’s features at the time it was released…

Can you talk about how to prevent the clipping issue?

If you're using the mic really close to your subject, I'd just keep the gain low, and/or use the -20db pad.

Great Video- question If I may- I am putting together a iPhone 12 Rig was looking at the Rodes VideoMicro but listening to RUclips reviews I think the NTG warrants the expense, 25% of the purpose would be to capture my Singer-Songwriter side (Vox-acoustic guitar) you suggested its a Sans Vox application. Any other suggestion that way with iPhone 12? Cheers

Thanks! I think the NTG would work really well with an iPhone 12 setup (and is worth the extra cost compared to a VideoMicro, regular VideoMic, etc). Though it's not designed to be a vocal mic necessarily, it handles recording bands/musical audio really well. I've captured bands and live performances with it myself, so I wouldn't be too concerned there. Probably the only other mic I'd consider in this class/price range would be the Deity D3 Pro, but I haven't gotten to test that or try it myself.

@@andrewsaraceni thanks so much for the quick response and to know you have recorded some bands with it- yes the Deity I've seen that one too, I'll have to research more - thanks again

Do you Charge your mic through a computer or wall socket source?

    • @andrewsaraceni

Wall socket usually - just with a 5W adapter, but computer works fine

@@andrewsaraceniI really appreciate the reply. I recently bought a new Rode NTG however, after leaving it fully charged turned off on the shelf for a week, the battery's completely drained. Is this normal, or does this happen to you? I'm thinking of returning it.

@@josephbalogun5200 No problem! It should hold a charge if it isn't used for a lot longer than that - could be something wrong with the battery. I'd reach out to Rode support and see if you can send it in for repair.
