No offense but I don't know any root words or how to do the tricks with some words. And on practice tests they are putting words that I didn't know existed!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The vocab on the SSAT is definitely tough! If you feel like you're starting at the very beginning with vocab, we typically recommend starting by memorizing the definitions (or even just 1-2 synonyms) for the words you're getting wrong on your practice tests. There are also great lists of root words out there! This list has many of the common ones: www.readingrockets.org/topics/spelling-and-word-study/articles/root-words-suffixes-and-prefixes
This isn’t that helpful as you are using long words that mostly have a root words/ prefixes in them. Short words without bases and particular suffixes/prefixes are really hard and mostly come out in the ssat.
Thanks for the comment! Those shorter words or words where there aren't any discernible roots are definitely tough. Strategies like thinking about context can be helpful if you've at least heard a shorter word before - if not, the "knowing when to move on" strategy (plus memorizing vocab words, especially ones you've missed on practice tests) might be your best bet! That said, we've seen a mix of longer words - where the roots strategy is easier to apply - and shorter ones on the SSAT, so we definitely wanted to include it!
thanks this helped me sooo much
thank you
But good advice for longer words
