I know I'm not the only one counting down to December 1! I cannot wait to see the house finished! So excited!😃
eeeeeekkkk im so excited!!
Right!! When she took all the plywood and plastic off it was like *angels singing* ☀️☀️☀️ *sun shining* all the “ethereal” stuff lol can’t believe how much of a difference removing that stuff made!
I’m worried about all the furniture, rugs etc still needed 🥴 but course I’m excited love watching the journey. MaCenna has come a long way from the boho style with small thrifted basket flips to a DIY queen. I got my mum watching and now subscribed we talk about both channels like once a day so inspiring all the work you are doing yourself 💪👑
@@XOMaCenna so am I eek lol youre a darling love from the UK
definitely! this is also what i'll comment after watching then i saw your comment 😅 cant wait for holiday decoooors😍
MaCenna: “I need you”
Romeo: “I’m here”
Me: 🥺
MaCenna: “I need you”
Romeo: “I’m here”
Me: Yeah, I’m here too watching your videos.
I like the pencil edge because it isnt sharp
The “expensive look” of the bevel doesn’t seem to fit the old, country Farm house vibe. I recommend the square-it also reduces risk of damage, since it’s uncut. Best wishes, you’re doing a great job!!
I so agree.
I agree!
I agree. Just made that comment as well.
Yuppers! Perfectly explained. Let the stone do the talking. ;)
I agree with the bevel not matching the style, but if they are planning on having kids I would have them rounded. Every kid in our family (and there are lots) ends up running straight into the corners with their head around 2-3 years old. 😅
Personally I would go with flat, if only to counteract (hohoho!) all the original elements and reclaimed furnishings and all of that with a more modern looking flat surface. The stone itself is so pretty, it can do the personality talking by itself, I'd keep it clean and square so that it's that touch more modern and sharp, in contrast with the more rounded, intricate qualities of your other pieces. And the sharp, clean lines work with the more classic vertical lines in the house too. Not to mention that if you end up not liking it, you can always have a stone worker bevel it out, but once it is, that beautiful stone you loved is cut. For good. No going back.
I love the timeless look of a flat edge it's sophisticated in its simplicity
To me, the beveled edge looks very old-fashioned, which I personally wouldn't choose. If it were me, I'd choose the same edge for all countertops, just to make it cohesive. I think the flat edge looks the best, simple, stylish, and not too overly designed :) Love the slabs you've picked!
But it’s an old house… Old-fashioned is what she’s going for
I can’t be the only one who teared up seeing how happy she was taking down the boards. Dec 1st, WE’RE READY!!💕
Me too, I’m so happy for them
I love the pencil edge on the countertops it would provide the smoothest edge and easiest cleaning surface. The bevel seems just a little dated to me, but you got this! Love the stone it’s gorgeous. The porch is going to be 💯!
I think the bevel does have a “dated” look on its own, but I think the way macenna is transforming old styles & refreshing them to be modern, I think the bevel would make such a statement! From the “dated” bead board, the spindles, the windows and frames, the old 1904 vanity and antique sink, everything she’s used so far will absolutely be transformed into the most beautiful take on modern vintage! 🤍
Agree! Pencil seems like the easiest cleaning-wise
@@maddiez2500 and if there are going to be children in the house, the pencil one looks like a safer option too.
When you took the boards and plastic off the entryways your happiness was radiating through! Much like when you put up your own first studs frame or when you first opened the entry door to say you bought the house. Your energy is so wonderful
I think bevel will look good on the vanity, because the original top of the cabinet already has a beveled look to it, you know? I think square cut would look good too. I think I'm just a fan of pretty much anything except pencil. lol But even then, I don't have an incredibly strong opinion about it! I think the penny tile under the tub and up the surround is going to be absolutely beautiful! And the slab goes SO WELL with the wood color in the house and paint colors. Really, really lovely!
It must be so satisfying to build something and see something come together.
SOOOOO Satisfying!
You are doing a job. Every one has different tastes, I would have things a lot different. You do what you like. I am 68 and I live in a different world. People are blind sometimes. What you like is bound to be different. Bless you your house will look so beautiful. And be what will make you happy. That’s how it works.
Omg after seeing the closeup of the vanity, I definitely recommend studying some of Dashner Design & Restoration's vids here on RUclips! I LOVE to watch his furniture restorations and I've learned a lot by just watching. He also works with a lot of veneered pieces, and it looks like your vanity may have some chipped veneer. I can't wait to see how you make it look!
I second this!! Also transcend furniture gallery!
I love that channel. Funny enough, he started coming up in my suggested videos after I started binge watching MaCennas videos last year!
I agree! He’s a master of restoration! My biggest concern with the vanity is that it may not stand up to a wet area. It looks like a veneer which can be a bit iffy but it a perfect shape!
Yes he restores so many veneered wood pieces!
Dasher's videos will really help with that bed restoration too since the wood is split! Can't wait to see what you do with all the pieces!
I have been living in a bathroom remodel for the last 6 weeks & whenever I get frustrated with how slow things are going, I think about MaCenna & how hard she is working & patient she is. Thanks for taking us along, your time is recognized & appreciated! xo
I think adding skylights would be a good idea! It was beautiful to see the blue skies when the roof wasn’t covered
I agree for the porch she needs skylights, the will be really dark year round.
I'm here!!!! Was wondering why you weren't posting
Love it "you don't let me do anything" 🤣 Been married for 38 yrs always tell my husband "you didn't do it for me" it's for you also! Can't wait to see your decorating in December 👏❤️🌹
We love an early upload 😊
I feel like the beveled edge really matches the character of the house, even though it's a more "dated" look. The flat seems the most modern. The pencil edge reminds me of 90s formica countertops and I am not into it 😬
Yea I agree ! Beveled edge for sure, looks more custom. Flat is too basic & pencil edge totally reminds me of 90s Formica countertops too. I know she definitely is not going for a builder grade look ,which flat and pencil edge give, in my opinion.
Yes my vote is for beveled! I agree with Kitty that the other options are too "builder grade" that you see in every neighborhood that has 30 of the same house! Older houses always have those simple tiny details that add up to something so special!
Flat polish edges all the way!!!
It’s the most timeless thing ever! Plus to me (as a German, maybe there’s a difference) they feel the most expensive and elegant!
The look on your face when you removed the boards from the door openings warmed my heart ❤️
I would keep all the edges the same where ever your putting it, so it flows and even though it not obvious the look will hit the subconscious minds and everyone will see the high end finish ;)
It’s those tiny little details that makes it to the “high end bracket” 🥰
Always a clean look- polished square edge
At this point, I’m more excited for you to move into your home in December than the holidays 😅😂
Same!! 🙂
The way you look at things and are able to picture the finished product is really a gift! Really enjoyed this video.
Yess! I’ve been thinking the same
I would do flat polish for the countertops! It feels the most classic and this house is very classic!
I like beveled for the spaces! It gives It a slight detail and feels timeless while not going overboard with the decorative profiles. Sometimes the more decorative the profile is the more expensive It will be and I don’t think the house calls for something more decorative :)
OK!!! your cooking now, look at you go!! seriously I cry with joy for you . When you removed the big boards that were blocking the original house from the new build, and I saw how excited you were to open it up,my heart was filled with pure happiness for you . This is such fun to watch your dream come true. Your working hard and looking trim .
Hi Romeo, MaCenna, this is truly a labor of love that you are doing. I do not know how you are going to bring yourself to move back to LA and leave this home once it's done. Can you explain your thought process more?
aww thank you so much! I think it really comes down to location for us. I have loved living in LA for the last 14 years so we will be splitting our time in both places :)
@@XOMaCenna thank you for the reply and explanation. How exciting! It’s like you will have the best of both worlds. I’m excited for you and to continue to see your dreams come true.
I agree!
MaCenna, you need a Q&A… like how long is the drive or travel time between both places?
I love how you are able to have love ones helping you! I also love the way you tell your viewers what projects you are working on! And, I like how you take us step by step,in showing us on how to complete each project. I like the beveled trim for the sinks. Again, thank you for being so kind in walking the viewers thru each renovations/ restoration of your 110 yrs old house!
I am so happy that Romeo is with you! You're such a cute couple that he is missed when not there.
I vote for the the flat cut counters!
You deserve every moment of your joy! You have worked so hard!
I wish we saw more of Romeo in your videos, I would love to hear his thoughts on everything. You keep saying we will move in Dec. What is his take on all this.
I love your show ,just want to see everyone happy
My preference is flat. It’s clean and classic.
« Where just in here, like building house » haha loved it! What a mood
“First of all, you don’t LET me do anything” 🤣🤣🤣 love it!!! Bevel edge I think would look incredible! Definitely compliments the style of the house the best in my opinion! So excited for you guys! Can’t wait to see the next video 😍
I do get happy when Romeo is working with you. These clips give me hope. Be safe and keep on pushing.
Your enthusiasm is so contagious. I’m so excited for y’all.
MaCenna saying “You don’t know how long I’ve waited to take those plywood’s off” as if we haven’t been waiting along side with her! 😆 I look forward to these house updates every week since the beginning. 💓
This is probably the best episode because so much progress is done! You did such a good job!!
Ok, I got emotional when you took off all the plastic and the wood.. So exicted!!!!!! You're such an inspiration ❤
I always choose a darker grout color. Because even if your cleaning it everyday it’s still will pull in the dirt. Especially on the floors & backsplash. I don’t like to change lots of different materials for every room. I don’t like everything matching exactly. But when every bathroom is completely different. Try and keep countertops, flooring, paint colors matching. It gives your home a sleek clean, Also on the edge of countertops go with something that’s not trendy right now, keep thinking “ OLD COTTAGE “. If everything is different, it looks really choppy!! I love a island with some color change in the cabinets & countertops. Small shuttle changes look amazing. I think it gives your home a timeless look. 🌺 😁 👍👍
It's the giggles when you opened your doorways for me. 😂 How exciting to finally be at this point for you all!
Flat edge- the beautiful slab speaks for itself, and the texture adds movement on its own
MaCenna! When you are finished, you are will be ready to open your own business as a General Contractor. We already know you have a design eye but now with the actual building knowhow. the ability to manage a budget and keep a schedule you are more experienced than many. Also, with your attitude and stick-to-it-ness you are perfect for the job. Plus, we can follow along on all your projects via your social media presence! It’s a win, win, win!
ROMEO in the house!!! Yeah!!!
I'm not from design background..but ur vlogs seem so therapeutic to me...thank you for what u create...💐💐❤️
It was good to see Romeo, I think the only person you should be asking about how anything will look, is him. Love how your house is coming along, can't wait to see more!!!!
I’ve said it and I’ll say it again. Best series on RUclips right now. So excited for you!
i know i'm not the only one loving the song choice of dejavú, i associate it with you now, i love it!
Your energy is magical. The love you have for what you do shines though in every single video. The colors look gorgeous MaCenna ❤️🤩 this house is going to be EPIC!
I legit waved at the TV when Romeo popped up... 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤣. Love when he's there and the to of you work together. You guys are so fun to watch interacting.
I like flat polish edging! Love your videos and it’s so fun seeing it all come together!
Great job 👏🏻 say hi from Hongkong
MaCenna, I am living for this series! I drop absolutely everything to watch it, sincerely, and you are such a perfect storm of enthusiasm, charm, intelligence and talent...it's so satisfying to watch your vision come to fruition! You and Romeo deserve every success that comes your way, you are such hard workers! Can't wait for the end result and it's soooooo close.
Best part of the Sunday! ❤️❤️❤️
It’s wonderful that you and Romeo have such great, and similar, taste.
It’s harder to wait for the next video of progress, however, I am SO enjoying the process with you!!
Thanks for inviting us all along with you on this adventure! ❤️
MACENNA!!! I am freaking out for you and Romeo! It’s all coming together so nicely with the add on, roof, slabs, vision of the front porch… AH 🤩. I look forward to seeing the progress every weeeek. ❤️ You’re killing it!
I like the pencil finish. For me it’s what works better with the stone and flows more naturally.
as an architecture student, bevel is the prettiest for me! and it really suits the vibe of your aesthetic
I'm sooo excited for this series!!! For the stone slab counter tops - if I were you, I would pick the edge that would feel right for each individual room and let each space speak for it self. Either way, I know your house is going to look absolutely stunning!!
Sunday couldn't get here fast enough for your video.
Flat edge for all of the counter tops is classic and timeless. Trends come and go, but in your home, I would go with classic. Going back to when your home was built, there were no beveled counters. Same edge on all counter tops.
I just got home and now I can watch this being under my blanket, all cozy ☺️
When I started watching your channel I thought you were so dainty but building your house you ROCK. You are willing to do anything with this build
I’m so excited for you! I swear I started crying when you started taking all the plastic and things down. It kind of made me feel like wow one day in going to be this excited about my house!
when you get to the pretty stuff, you know you are getting close. So happy for you both
I like flat. The slab you love has alot of movement so the edge & supporting players should be more understated.
Gotta be honest, I kinds dont want you to ever be done, I am loving these videos too much! It will be bittersweet when its all over!
I think bevel looks really cool in like a bathroom where it’s just a small slab, and then maybe flat in kitchen
This is so exciting ! It’s coming along so well!
I think the flat polish would go better on the vanity you found. It’s simpler next to the intricate design of the vanity.
I’m also not a super fan of the rounded edge, I think it’s because I’ve always had that in my rentals, and it was usually super cheap countertop, so it looks cheap to me.
Your guest bathroom vanity already has a beveled edge on the top so I think I’d keep that aesthetic just so it will flow with the rest of the shape of the vanity.
Please go with the flat! I am so convinved this will help all the other *dreamy* vintage details shine! The two other options seem totalt wrong to me.
Thanks for tons of inspo. Can’t tell you how much you are influencing my style right now. ‘Midcentury cottage’ - that’s a style, right? 😅
The piece of tile you held up (that you don't think will go with the countertops), is the exact tile I put in my laundry room with my silver/grey washer and dryer! I love it
You are very skilled. It's especially impressive that you are able to salvage and reuse almost everything.
Bevel edges on that vanity! Just perfect!!
You didn't show up on my playlist as usual so I went looking for you. What a relief I found you. I can't miss anything.
I think I’d definitely go with the pencil or flat polish for the vanity. I’m with you; the bevel doesn’t lend itself to the aesthetic of the vintage piece
I like the flat!!!!!! I think that looks the most expensive and natural
Dang I can’t wait to see the finish look!!
Talk about balance.....Romeo is the calm to MaCenna's storm! 😂 project is coming together nicely. Keep up the good work!
I got so excited when you removed the plastic and plywood from the doors/windows! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I like the flat edge detail the best. I like straight and simple. Also, you may have already thought of this, but I noticed you weren’t putting the nails you pulled into a bucket or container. When you finish pulling nails, you should get a strong magnet on a string and swing it around all over that area. Otherwise you, or your contractors, will be getting flats when pulling around the yard to clean up, deliver goods, or even mowing. Don’t ask me how I know. 😬
The COUNTERTOPS ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!! Ugh with everything too!! I love! And agree I dislike the pattern but the grey in the camera bounces off the green to my eye! So everything looked GORGEOUS. ALSO. I like the darker color for the cabinets! SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!!
That patterned floor title is EVERYTHING!! I might just be biased, though, as my favorite color is gray and I am REALLLYYY into vintage patterned floor title, lately! Also, naturally, I am in love with the long gray subway tile and the textured creamy white subway tile!
I plan on renovating my bathroom and kitchen. I plan to have large matte black hex floor tiles with a textured off-white long subway tile wall/backsplash (haven't decided how far up the wall I want to take the tile, yet), with either an 'Early American' stained vanity, white-washed light gray vanity, or an ashy medium/light toned vanity... Using a combination of black and oil rubbed bronze finishes.
For the kitchen, I want off-white or cream colored upper cabinets with sagey-green colored lower cabinets. Thinking about gray wood plank floor tile, butcher block countertops, some open wood shelving or even pipe and wood shelving, wood planks over the stove hood (framed out and using proper ventilation, of course!), and using either a combination of matte stone and mother of pearl hex tile for the back splash, or using the same creamy off-white textured long subway tile that I want to use in the bathroom..
My entire home is done in a modern farmhouse, boho, vintage style, as far as home decor and aesthetics go.
Omg that lighting at 14:26 gave me the feels. Makes me excited to see the finished house!
I love how you're pulling all the colors from the slab into the surrounding decor!!
I think bevel is perfect. It’s that awesome contrast since outside it looks like a cottage, but it’s going to be pretty high end inside
I think the bevel suits the style of your house the most for the countertops!
Great progress guys ! Good to see Romeo back in Texas!!!
Your videos have me sitting here creating a full dream kitchen layout for my future home I haven’t even started saving for yet 😂 I’m so excited to see all the design elements come together in your cottage! Ahh! ❤️
P.S. I 100% agree with you on the beveled look on all of the counters! I think that’ll fit so nicely with the cottage-style/vintage cabinetry! Very classic and cozy!
Can I just say that I love your aesthetic and can't wait to see the final product of all your hard work come to life?!?! 😍😍😍
I LOVE that darker cabinet color to play off of that ridiculously extra slab piece you scored!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’m drawn to the green and copper veining
I think that bevel for the vanity it's gonna be so beautiful bc it kinda looks like the original top,but for the counter top I like more the flat polish
This series is like a calender before my Christmas calender 🥰🥰
I’m leaning towards the flat polish for the stone countertops 💖
I think Bevel would look the best for the vanity. ❤️ so excited see the house come together.
Yours is the only channel that I find myself thinking, “noooo, she’s winding up to finish the video”. Others I skip through, or don’t watch until the end. Yours I could watch for hours.
Yay! Macenna’s on, Macenna’s on!
I think bevel would look beautiful on both the kitchen island and the vanity! I think the color story and finishes look made to be with that slab! 😍
I think the flat polish is best for the style/era of the house - I would definitely do this for the vanities. Since your kitchen will be a bit more modernized with appliances and things, I'd say you could get away with the bevel edge if that's what you're really loving....can't wait to see this all come together!
