He's Such A Great Coach. Because he is fun but tough at the same time and he just creates a vibe around the club that we haven't seen for a long time
Great you say. Will be if he gets magpies in final and actually wins the prem . Then he'd be a great.
It's amazing the way McRae has taken the finalists from 2018, 2019 and 2020 to the finals in 2022. Incredible transformation.
@@carlmarks8170 You seem really upset, I'll break it down for you. Although we were doing quite well in later years the team was breaking down and with a rebuild stage in 2021 Bucks wouldnt have been able to get them back up. But from 17th to 4th in the prelims as a first year coach is incredible.
@@tom7991 think it's just people who hate Collingwood that don't like it when they're doing well trying to find any argument to try and put them down when they're up. Quite comedic if anything lmao
@@carlmarks8170 Notice how in each of those years you mentioned, they dropped off a bit and then dropped off tremendously when Justin Longmuir left to coach Fremantle in 2020. Buckley wouldn't have gotten them back up and history shows he doesn't improve in Finals the season after. In his first year he got to the Preliminary Final with Malthouse's team and then the following season went out at home in the Elimination Final against Port Adelaide. He didn't get them back into the Finals for 4 years. Honestly there is quite a strong case that Buckley underachieved quite a bit. A much better, more reflexible Coach tactically would have easily won the 2018 Premiership and wouldn't have lost to the Giants at home in the Preliminary Final the following year. Craig McCrae is clearly much superior tactically. So the transformation is incredible without a shadow of a doubt and it is by far the greatest one we have seen in the League since West Coast 2011 going from bottom of the ladder the year before to finishing 3rd. So overall Buckley was a decent Coach but his ceiling was never very high. Craig McCrae by contrast, the sky is is the limit for how great he could be as a Coach.
You can look to Jeremy Howe for the maturity of Collingwood's aggression. A few years back playing a bit more reckless, and evidence was in the injuries.
Now, they have a 'never say die' approach without destroying their bodies or risking collisions.
Kane still hates Collingwood after they eliminated Port in 2002-03.
The Umpires tried to even out the game in the first half by favouring Fremantle with some shocking decisions but even they gave up.
The umpiring, particularly in the first half as you suggest, was disgusting but probably not quite as bad as last week. The umpires these days give new meaning to the word 'incompetent'.
I hate saying this but Collingwood supporters were a class above in sending off Mundy they way they did.
Did you expect them to not be respectful to a veteran of the game?
@@angussymons Not surprised, pleasantly surprised.
Isn't it funny how Collingwood became an actual footy team again after they got rid of McGuire and Buckley?
I have never seen a team so excited as the Collingwood players in the race coming out onto the ground. You could see that they were switched on and ready to play and it showed. One game in 4 weeks will not help Sydney so I think that Collingwood can go all the way. by beating Sydney and turning the tables on Geelong in the Grand Final. It's their Destiny!
I wouldn't be making assumptions about what's going to happen in two weeks from now. Everyone was saying that about Melbourne and what would happen when they played Geelong in the Preliminary Final before the Semi Final had been played. Melbourne lost, and everyone who had been making assumptions about them were made to look really stupid. Collingwood haven't made it to the Grand Final yet, so suggesting that they will be there and will beat Geelong is just as stupid, and it's also premature and getting ahead of yourself.
@@darrenmiles-morland8038 mate if people didn't show passion and hope for there team the AFL would be boring.. let the people dream
@@paulsnow1289 That's right. That's all that Collingwood's season has turned out to be, a dream. Now for the fall in 2023.
Maybe it was their destiny but no one told the swans that. [edit] Pies played awesome in the second half. Full credit.
@@darrenmiles-morland8038 one point with 5/ 50s against. Bloody great season mate. A dream that was loved by many AFL fan's. A season that has galvanized the AFL.
Hate the pie's you can! But AFL is back mate and the pie's helped that 👍.
Go the cat's
Win the GF? Our journey to success has just begun. One game at a time. Sydney will be a huge challenge.
Collingwood best team to watch. Hope they go all the way. Hurts to admit as a bomber.
Well done Matty Lloyd. You were spot on when you made your rash prediction that the Magpies were going to win this year's premiership.
If Collingwood do make it to the grand final and win, how do you think Nathan Buckley will feel ?
This must be a thought that has crossed the players minds .
No bro bunkhead was never a good coach best thing to happen at pies is him leaving and his sponsor el presidente for life fat head Maguire.
That’s not for them to worry about, he wasn’t the best coach. Craig McRae is better as a coach for them
He would be happy. He bleeds black and white
Bucks would still be close with a lot of those guys so he wouldn't want them to lose.
Thank the Tiges for this bloke. Vfl premiership coach also, great guy.😎 taken a bit from Richmond, the way it goes though. Good on him.
Collingwood have gone from a horrible side to watch to one of the most exciting in one season and it all comes from the new coaching staff / game plan ..great job by all i used to hate watching them the previous couple of seasons under Buckley ... hardly see them kick backwards or sideways just to maintain the ball now they attack as often as they can from anywhere on the ground i do not care what happens from now it has been a great season regardless
Last year 2021 before the season started I was listening to SEN radio and I rang them and said I thought Collingwood had gone stale and it needed change at the top first of all, the commentators were not impressed lol, so what happened, shortly afterwards the President was gone, and then later the coach to whom I am gratefull because it made the way for McCrae. the President did a wonderful job for the club on many fronts, but his habit of saying silling things in public I think made it a club that many players ie recruiting prospects did not want to come to Collingwood I believe that has now changed and it was long overdue.
Never mind about a flag within 5! They will challenge their four in a row!
He has all the experience from the RFC and knows the system. He has also surrounded himself with the right people like Justin Leppitsch. Well done..
Collingwood and Richmond hold up this league on their broad shoulders
“Brisbane can’t win it”
Even after surprising critics with the wins we’ve got we’re still doubted, all I’ll say is maintain the noise.
"I dont think brisbane can win it" yeah but noone gave then a chance to win the last 2 weeks so this probably means theyll win it
Lol, Brisbane beats 2 of the teams the media kept saying were one of the flag favourites and yet we still get written off
Who cares what Lloyd thinks? We can play the underdog tag, it’ll be all the more sweeter if do win it.
@@sageslayer942 literally no one considered them favourites
Didn't the same thing happen to the 2016 bulldogs. "First year coach", "fast and furious play", it's like a novelty issue. Icarus flew too close to the sun too soon remember.? Haven't really seen them kick100points to win a match. But hey, they've had a smashing year no denying it.
Too soon? Should he have waited for it to cool down first or something?
Beveridge won the flag in his 2nd year. And did it by implementing a game plan built around a style noone knew how to combat (the fast handball) game. But was figured out very quickly.
@Soussy so he rigged the competition did he?
@@devilwarr1or my bad...that's right, it was just after the Hawks had gone back to back.. 2014.
its the mindset of the players thats better coupled with a strategy that works
A lot of the best coaches were assistants from top clubs, definitely something other teams need to look at
Kane really doesn't like Collingwood does he?
It's blatantly obvious.
The coaching has been very good apart from the foward line structure and the fowards leading. The fowards look lost when the mid field is running towards the foward 50.
maybe the fact that this was the 9th game Collingwood had played in front of over 60K crowds helped a little as Freo had none.
Extremely good coaching taking a club that finished 17th out of 18 positions on the ladder last year. And then the Pies who used a few of Richmonds reserves coaches in Craig McRae and Justin lepich. Two outstanding ex-Brisbane premiership players who have learnt we'll and from 17th to 4th in one season is unbelievably good 10/10 for leadership. And Craigs ability to communicate with all his players and get the best out of them. Hot Pies.
They play old fashioned, drive the ball foward, footy.Throw in intense pressure and getting players around the ball, and that is the game plan.Teams who try to finesse and set up plays
using handball (most other clubs) are crushed by the ferocity
This is Richmond in a different jumper
got rid of dead wood last season including Robert Harvey
The media make a big deal about the Pies rise from 17th to a Prelim Final but the reality is that last year was really an aberration. In the years prior they played in a Semi, Preliminary and a Grand Final so they certainly had the ability and they won six games last year anyway. Compare that to North and the Eagles this year. Yes it's great that they are where they are and I certainly hope they win the flag but as good as their achievement is, I reckon 1977 was better where they came from last (albeit in a 12 team competition) to a Grand Final.
Yeah last year had a lot of the Melbourne 2019's about it. We just rebounded quicker.
Not much has been made of what this result says about Buckley’s coaching.
Anything to do with the fact he’s in the media now?
As a Swan's guy, you have to be impressed by the Pies this year, but not particularly worried. They are really similar to us in certain ways, but we are basically more advanced in all those areas: better pressure side; better skilled players across the board; more even spread of contributers; much stronger forward line; (at worst) equally good in our back 50; stronger against top 8 sides; playing at the SCG where this year we've managed to get our form back
Collingwood fan here, for the most part I agree. I'm curious who you think Geelong (assuming they beat Brisbane but they could surprise us) would be more afraid to face at the g.
@@kickasskookie2535 hmm yeah after last game it's hard to know. But I still feel the blueprint the pies used against the cats (which SHOULD have beaten them) is one the swans already play with - super high pressure; strong defensive set up. But I think we can match/beat Geelong up forward more than the pies.
I disagree with better pressure side and the skill of colls players is peaking because of their confidence which means they are going past their talent. Jamie Elliot wasn't pulling this stuff to this level forward two years ago. Degoey is finding forst form right now since 2018.
@@depressedessendonfan5702 they definitely are in good form. but remember against Melbourne, the swans' pressure was the best of any side in the finals so far statically. I will grant that the De Gooey and pendles are in great form whereas our a-graders didn't actually play that well against the demons. To me though that is encouraging because: 1) they won't be *that* quiet two games in a row; 2) we are so even that even when our best players aren't at their peak we win
@@dilanabey I guess the unknown variable here is the MCG where the granny will be. I'd be very interested to see Swans vs pies there. At the SCG, I struggle to see Collingwood getting over Sydney.
They can’t beat cats or Sydney. Season is over
Lets hope so
No worries Jack where the air is Crisp!!!!!
Nailed it unlike Carlton, who bottled it and are still to go deep into finals this century, despite endless first round picks. Voss will never coach a premiership while his arsehole points to the ground.
Collingwood have lost TWENTY SEVEN grand finals…. 27!! The flogs invented the choke, and you’re paying out on Carlton?
Maybe that number becomes 28 this year… 😘
He needs to put degoey in the forward
you need the big bruising body at stoppages. he will get his chances to kick goals, as he has been.
Buckley did an amazing job with Collingwood getting them to where they are today, I think it's more the fact of losing Buckley that made the group closer and more immersed in footy rather than McRae's input into the team but each would play a seperate part in the surprising turn around from the group.
I agree.. I thunk Buckley instilled the defensive mindset and now McRae is asking them to play more freely and take more risks, since they have that mindset already
Wrong bro sorry to disappoint. Blankhead was a negative boring defence style game plan. And by pissing of the pies get a better smarter coach who had a good attacking style. Bunkly was never any good.
@@paulkyriakopoulos3444You clearly didn't read what I said.
Collingwood finished 17th after Buckley got sacked 1/2 way through…
He taught them the same attack too. McRae basically taught them to just continue to do it the whole game rather than getting an early lead and then zoning
All I’ll say is fellow bloods supporters, take it easy with the bravado and careless claims of prophetic victory! We haven’t fckn won it yet and whatever has happened, two teams will meet on Saturday and whatever they bring to the field that day, is what they’ll leave with. Don’t fckn jinx us with this “we’ll win” bs and let’s just say “carn bloods!”
To be fair, Collingwood defenders were as good as Freo mids and forwards were bad. So many dumb plays and holding the balls from Freo taking an eternity to move the ball on or overusing the handball, or even handballing to players already manned. It was a disaster from the start but credit where credit is due, Freo hit the score better than I expected given how rough they're plays were. Collingwood could've;,and probably should've, been 5+ goals ahead in the end. Sydney midfields and mature defenders won't make the same mistakes that Freo made all night so it'll be interesting to see how they can cope with that. Prediction is Sydney by 8 points.
The MCG crowd was a factor no doubt, but the "dumb plays" came via the pies press. They were scintillating in the first half.
Freo looked like a deer caught in headlights, they just couldn't cope.
@@user-iq7tp8nc9i wasn’t Collingwood pressure, it was brain fade plays, holding the ball too long when you should move it on isn’t pressure related it’s a bad play. Happened so many times. Freo also over used the handball instead of kicking long trying to get it to Lobb or at least to ground to get the smalls involved more.
@@vigour6786 Pressure is what brings about the mistakes. When they went long, Collingwood would out-mark or out-man & rebound with vigour, when they tried short combinations, the Pies would smother their air. The Pies were ON in their defensive play & set up. Freo was consistently caught in two minds because every avenue to goal was seeminlgy cut off. The most damage they could inflict was through centre clearances & in the final term the Pies practicly shut shop.
Playing in front of 90 thousand spectators, mostly being Pies fans doesn't help either.
@@user-iq7tp8nc9i They didnt make mistakes, I never said they made mistakes. I said they made bad plays, i.e handballing too often and also passing to teammates that were already manned or about to be taken down anyways, or holding the ball too long with no spacial awareness, and not going inside 50 any different in the 2nd half. Those aren't mistakes, they're bad plays and that's what cost them the game.
And people are still talking up that flog coach from Geelong
What the hell does that mean
Rent free
Same coach that has won 14 games in a row
Cringe
I detest the Scott brothers but Chris is undeniable in his ability to coach at an elite level. Absolute smashed banana, sure, but 14 in a row?! C’mon, he and the cats deserve their spot just like the rest of them.
Freo were horrible
@Steve Lozevski, oh get a load , Steve, the straight sets guy.
The guy that knows absolute squat about footy, he’s made another useless comment!
Swans will beat them again.
Yes They Well
Yes they will
Nope
Have to wait and see but seeing the form Sydney are in it'll be one of the biggest finals shocks if the Pies get it done next Saturday. They'll have to bring in the same mindset and aggression from the Geelong game to even get a sniff. Should be an absolute classic
Really dont be so positive De
oey didnt play in that game. Pies will thump the Swans and come back after the game so i can remind you.
