I can agree with that! When I got my first professional tattoo I remember the entire experience. I got a set of roses on my arm when I was around 18 I think. I remember the persons named was Kat, not Kat Von D, but another person whom went by that name. I remember he got an image from online and used speed stick to apply the tattoo stencil, I can still remember the smell from the speed stick in the tattoo shop as I use it for practice 🤦‍♂️ haha
But from the moment I was in the tattooing environment was the moment I knew that one day I would be involved with tattooing. I knew I wanted to be involved with tattooing I just didn’t know when I was going to get into it at that time.

One of my tattoos is completely blown out and while getting it it literally felt like i was being stabbed. It hurt SO MUCH MORE than my other tattoos had and i just told myself it was because of the area (inner upper arm), but now seeing you demonstrate the blow out, it validates my feelings. I’ve been a tattoo artist for 12 years and like he said everyone is different.
A builder will need be the same as a 20 year old female and so on.
And some people just do have tougher and dryer thicker skin. Some peoples skin is so white or feels more watery. It’s a larger variety than people think. But always remember it’s a steel needle hitting soft skin.
And blow outs are worst than a slightly faded line.
You can always add you can take away !

Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I'm an old gal in my 50's and I'm heavily tattooed. My first professional tattoo I was 15. I have to say 90% of my tattoos were with "heavy hand". There's only been one person who wasn't heavy handed and he's thankfully doing really great as an artist. Anyway, I bought myself a tattoo machine because I'm not doing well as far as my health and I'm an old 80's punk rock princess so I decided before I donate my body to the body farm, I'm going to go completely ape shit and fill in spots myself for family members that have passed recently. After watching your video, I know all the famous assholes that have tattooed me may have been great at art but I've been scarred badly and once my entire forearm was like hamburger meat. Anyway I just want to say thank you for this. I'm going out with a fucking bang and I'm going to die with all the tattoos I can give myself and trust that I know I don't have to worry about some one else causing me the extra pain and scarring - which I have had plenty of! Bless you and your family. ❤️

I recently got a autograph tattoo and the artist was super gentle. I barely felt it. Since she did not go very deep at all, the lines are super crisp and thin. After healing, it looks like an actually autograph signed in pen. Just perfect. The other tattoos I have, are thick lines that went too deep. Now they are blurred and faded. They look out of focus. You have to always find the right artist for the right job.

I think that’s a cool way to describe what you felt, as if a sharp hot pencil is dragged on your skin. I always looked at a tattoo like mini incisions, kind of like a medical procedure haha so in my mind I correlate the tattoo pain to some sort of “incisual” pain.

I'm a very amateur artist on the skin & I just moved onto doing my own thigh. I tattood 3 separate ideas & found SOME areas where I may have gone a little deep cause it looks darker than the rest of my line but once I got used to the depth, all my lines came out super smooth & it's so satisfying when you wipe & you reveal a clean line under.
What I wanted to say before I got carried away was that I have NEVER seen anyone demonstrate depths the way you did. I, along with a lot of others, appreciate the time & thought you put into this video. You've earned my sub & you can count on my view from here on out. 🎉🤝🏽

A blow out doesn’t indicate bad skillsets as there as sooo many reasons why it can happen. There is also a lot we as tattooist can do to avoid blowouts as well.

I'm absolutely terrified of needles, it makes me queazy looking at it going in tbh. I passed out after 4 vaccines when I was 15, I still have an incredibly high phobia of looking at a needle. Everyone said I couldn't do it and it made me want to do it even more, so I got a starter machine since I wouldn't be able to do a stick and poke. After 3 days of practice I managed to do it on my wrist and thigh in one sitting, I went to light a lot of the time but I got it to where I feel proud of it. This video helped at lot to demonstrate it and I found it helpfull after I finished my first two.

I breed and show pedigreed Flemish Giant and Beveren rabbits, tattoos are required in the right ear for the rabbitry identification at shows and in the left ear for the registration tattoo. I have used a pen for tatting their ears since June 2014. This month, January 2023, I will be tatting both ears of my first registered Nubian goat kids. This is the first time I have actually SEEN an example of tattooing at specific depths. I must say thank you, as this helps me understand a lot better about adjusting the needle depth for the ears on the different animals. You will help make a world of difference in the quality and life of the tats I put on my critters for showing and for selling. Thank you.

I got my first tattoo like a month ago at this point and I got a whole sleeve done so this is interesting to see especially cause I'm in an anatomy and physiology class and we studied the skin. Pretty sure my artist did a good job and didn't cause any blowouts (which I didn't know existed). Getting the tattoo did feel... I could probably word that better. It didn't really hurt cept on the bone of my elbow and up near my armpit. Other than that it just kinda felt like a burning sensation? But not really a burning sensation idk.

Definitely a big help! & hell yea once it hits the hipodermis it will bleed in the skin leaving it look like a bruise. I got my knee tatted, line work only & he blew out some lines! 😣

i'm super late to this comment but here's my thoughts- i did two knee tattoos on myself, they were painful (as tattoos are) typically when you get a knee tattoo, you want to have your legs out in front of you, if you're specially tatting above, or on the knees itself, you want to have that extra cushion there because either way it's gonna suck- i couldn't even finish my knee tats because it was a bit too much. I know they aren't blown out but a little bit of knowledge for anyone thinking of getting one lok

@@abashedAuthor honey idk who told u to have your leg out in front of u I’m assuming u meant laying flat while u tat yourself. The way my knee was done i had my knee bent in front of me you want your skin as flat as possible.

Thanks so much for this educational video!
I'm planning on getting a full body project (long time dream of mine) and I'm really struggling to figure out how to pick the most suitable artist for this.
It's something really big, expensive and time consuming. Not even mentioning the trust the artist and i will have to put into this endeavor.
I'd love to have "parts" that, together form an expanding tattoo.
For example: underarms and upper arms, with the pattern moving together and maybe getting intertwined. A back piece and a chest piece that reach each other over the shoulders and on the ribs.
Do you think this would be a good way to do this? Somewhat symmetrical tattoos over the course of probably a few years?

@@DanielYuck What's your thought on the "pinch some skin between fingers and look at the fold, then half it's thickness" method to figure out the needle depth? Apparently also you can get a good idea from reading how it wrinkles then. Or so my local tattoo artist explained it to me. Naturally it may not work with super obese people.

    • @DanielYuck
      @DanielYuck  3 года назад

      @@PencilsGraphite hmmmm that’s a good question !
I’m not certain how I feel about that. It never crossed my mind to pinch someone skin to find the depth. I guess because even if I did I would not truly know the accurate depth. I find the depth using the fundamental senses.
The vibration when the skin breaks, the sound of the skin breaking, and my eyes to visually see the ink going where I need it to go. That is simply my approach tho. Someone may find insight from the pinch approach should they know what they are looking for upon doing so.

I've just purchased my first supplies to start practicing. Are there any videos or resources that you would suggest that a beginner take a look at while practicing on the practice skins?

My first tattoo was by a guy that was heavy handed. Lots of blood, pain, some lifted ink from scaring etc. I'm not sure how many years he had but it was more than 10. I know he had to be heavy handed because next tattoo was a dream that was by a different guy, very little blood if any and healed so much better. My sister got a tattoo by heavy handed guy and I'm sure her tattoo will have blow outs if they haven't happened already. Of course she finally agreed he was heavy handed. I'm doing a bit more research next time but you never really know who is heavy handed just by looking at portfolios unless I don't know what to look for.
