Harakiri (1962) by Masaki Kobayashi is my favorite movie ever ! Absolutely stunning, Top Notch in acting,cinematography,storytelling.The greatest and most powerful film for me.
Toronto has its own version of the Criterion Closet, Bay Bloor Video, one of the video stores in the city. The shelves literally looks identical, with a good selection of Criterion on its shelves, including some discontunued titles.
I noticed the Kiwi lady, Gemma (?) was holding the Japanese film directed by the great Yasujiro Ozu called "Ohayo" (Good Morning) near the end there but didn't mention it. It's one of my favourite films ever, I highly recommend it to everyone. Criterion are a real blessing, I've bought so many of their collections and films that are almost impossible to find elsewhere, Thanks Criterion and Letterboxd too for spreading the word about all those underrated classics. Love ya's !
It would be cool if on a Friday over beers you guys talked about adding shared lists to letterboxed that multiple people can contribute to. Doubt it would be that hard to implement as that feature exists in other apps
I'd love to see the Amazon clipboard carries that run IMDb try to be half as cool and cinephile as you guys. We all know what the platform for real film lovers is 💪
I watched Uncut Gems around seven times when it came out and I never need to watch it again. I was enamoured with the Safdie brothers back then, so I knew about the movie two years before seeing it and watched a pirated screener, then saw it in theaters, then on streaming a few times each. I think I'll watch it again in 20 years or something.
She pulled that Beauty and the Beast -no.6, from all the way up at the top left shelf, with no. 13 Silence of the Lambs sticking out just after it. So, the closet must be set up by spine number, starting at top left.
