Thanks! I literally just needed this since I'm trying to grind out my Germany again.
When I first started BnZing I used the Bf109e3. My biggest mistake was that after my attack run on a group of planes I would go back up at 70 or 80 degrees and then I would be shot from behind with someone following me up. I found out that it's really import to escape using a shallow climb at first to extend away and then climb a little more steeply only AFTER being a safe distance away. Great video Jengar!
Roger that, always make a safe Exit! o7
Needed this comment
No actually I just fly str8.
@@lonewaffle231But the longer you will fly just straight, the more energy you will lose when flying above your top speed, so you definitely want to convert that speed back into altitude as fast possible.
So you saw the other RUclips video saying to "LOOP BACK AND BOOM AGAIN"
Speed is life, altitude is life insurance
Roger that :)
Speed and altitude is like water and food, can't survive long without them
@PeakApex I don't get it.
@PeakApex Oh
That quote never made any sense. Life insurance is a thing that pays your widow after you're dead... not something that keeps you alive.
thanks Jengar, you are correct BnZ is a complex set of decisions all made during a dive. My main issue has always been overspeed in the dive, leading to loss of control. Really hard for me to predict the speed i'll be when i reach the target.
You're welcome Paul! Sounds like you need to learn to leave the target in time. o7
@@jengar6258 But what if every plane is really low altitude and maybe one or two high altitude but far like 6-7 Kilometers away from me?
I really didn't appreciate the BnZ tactic until I started flying the S199, it really forces you to discipline yourself into BnZ. That said, I still very much dislike flying the P-51.
Also, one more thing to add, if you want to use BnZ, you need to understand the limitations of your plane well. I have lost count of how many times I have crashed by La-5 because I forgot the controls lock up in a high speed dive.
Roger that, plane knowledge is definitely in there.
I like the P-51s, they rip and tear with ease. But oh man do you have to be patient.
Great tips here! Especially the battle of knowing when to stop chasing someone diving away.
Ty Sir! yeah, that is a vital skill! o7
Thank you, a good reminder to keep me focused when playing.
np Malcolm! o7
Thanks for the help! Im a pretty bad aim so I definitely find that it’s easier to look at it as one big movement, a constant moving machine, the second I forget this is when I start following the target after a failed run etc. when really I should have broke off and prepared for another run on him or another target immediately, not just follow the same guy that I failed to kill until he takes me down to ground level or gets me with his gunners if he’s a bomber. Great tutorial thanks again!
i tend to tail my target even if i failed to dive on him, just like you 😅😂
you're welcome! o7
It's hard to break off when you can see the enemys ass. I hate dogfighting, only play it for ground rb cas
ty man it was really helpful i have been struggling to get any kills and progress but now that i watched this it clearly helped me a lot.keep up the good work👍
I play mostly Ground but I am trying to get more in to Air RB your videos are great .
Glad to hear it brother! o7

Thankss!!!! i was waiting for this

@@jengar6258 OMG jengar replied! but thanks for sharing your experiences and teaching us, Have a nice one!
Great timing, deciding to start playing the Germans again and keep falling into the energy fighting style with the F4. But it’s usually after I get frustrated playing with rank 3 Americans when 5 teammates chase a SU-2 or something lol. Great video btw. Love watching your content.
I swear... I play with the G14, and almost 80% of matches, my teammates dont climb and go after IL10's or Mosquito's... Then they're all dead, and Im always the last one at the match
@@gonzadiaz3194 Dude honestly this happens so often I want to scream lol
In the 109F4 its okay to mix B&Z and Energyfighting, its mainly an energyfighter anyways. For the germans its more the 190's that are pure B&Z.
Great video, very helpful!
Ty Sir! o7
Very helpful! I enjoyed the video. Thanks
You're welcome! o7
Ik this isn't relevant but thanks so much for your bf109 f4/trop video.
You're welcome!
So helpful! I can’t wait to see your leading video.
cheers mate! o7
i would love a more in depth look at pursuit types.
its noted. i first want to make tutorials on energy fighting, turnfighting, cas and bombing. in the meantime there's also the rank reviews that need to continue.
Spent 30 hours last couple weeks trying to learn B&Z properly but with very little success. I've been playing the American P-51-C and Kingcobra. I might occasionally get a game where I get 1 or 2 kills but 9/10 of my games either my team kills all enemies before I can do much or I get ganged up on because rest of my team dies early. It's so frustrating and I'm about to quit War Thunder even tho I enjoy many aspects of it. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I typically side climb for the first 5-7 minutes, find an ally who is dog fighting away from most enemy planes and zoom the enemy. This usually misses because of the crazy speed I'm going, and then multiple enemies start chasing me for an eternity. The game is no longer fun despite me trying to master this strategy and I find myself getting mad or frustrated more than anything. On top of that I lose about 3-5k silver lions for each of these 'defeats' so I'm barely even making progress on the grind when I play realistic.
brother, hang in there, make sure to also visit my tutorials on energyfighting, situational awareness, sideclimbing, positioning, and the rest. My tutorial playlist will answer a lot of questions for you. If you have any left after that, join my discord and ask me and my squadronmates.
Thanks for the guide. More please!
roger! o7
I use the p51 because it’s a really good boom and zoom plane it dosent climb that well but killing the target fast and getting out of there 👌
yeah, good stuff! o7
Every single game of air RB I play (I use p51c10), I sideclimb a bit, get to around 3k meters, turn back into the fight, and then some BF109 is coming towards me (usually a bit below). I don't want a headon, so I turn to the side, they somehow get behind me, I instantly die. What the hell do I do?
Just to clarify on how bad the situation is: I've mainly played arcade to get to this point. I have one kill total in my entire life in air RB, and I've probably died instantly in like 10-20 matches so far.
@@fmailscammer I too have experienced this in anything around 4.0BR with American planes. It is the most frustrating thing because almost every match it's always a BF109 getting behind me despite my altitude/energy advantage. It's gotten to the point where I hate even seeing a BF109 and I've gotten to the point where I'm considering quitting the game or taking a long break from it. The only solution I've found so far is to get a crazy energy advantage over BF109's/avoid them at all costs, which means not even fighting for the first 10 minutes of the game, and even then it's only a small chance I can score a kill on something without dying first.
@@JeremyMidlam I've just given up on playing realistic as American planes, I'm too impatient to sideclimb for long enough to get my planes in position. I play arcade and have a great time blowing stuff up.
if you want to get better in ARB you should first watch my Tutorial playlist. There's a lot of good stuff in there that will safe you a few years on the learning curve.
if you have questions after that be sure to ask!

Seriously underrated

"Most boom n zoon dedicated plane are not great at climbing" *Laugh in Bf109*
The exception always confirms the rule ;)
Great tutorial bro
Thanks Damiano!
Have to learn to boom and zoom with the Hellcat and Corsair on Birds of Steel, they just turn so slowly.
I havnt played birds of steel, so no idea.
Very nice tips.
o7
Thanks for the video
you're welcome! o7
Are you planning on doing a tutorial on energy fighting soon?
Yes Ryan!
Too much work. Excuse me while I go and turn fight zeros in my P-47 :P
good luck! ;)
u first need to to be tilt proof when booming n zooming, climbing for 10 minutes to get turned on low energy planes still catching you is not healthy
yep, thats frustrating for beginning pilots.
thank you so much i really know my mistakes now.I always chasing my enemy when it dives🤣🤣.But sometimes in my mig 3 34 its difficult to exit my dive they always caught me.
thats because they compress a lot at high speeds.
Thank you Jengar for all the videos.
I'm starting WT again, this time on a PS5 and that means I will drop my lvl 63 pc account.
That being said, would you be willing to do a video on tips and tricks for air combat in Ground RB.
I found that mode more enjoyable overall , as the action starts right away and there is no 5 minutes of climbing.
Anyway, planes can really turn the table in ground RB.
What would you advise ? I plan on playing ww2. Top tier does not interest me.
I found that in that mode, unless you're flying a turnfighter like a Spitfire or Zero, hanging around the battlefield is a really unhealthy idea.
With a BF109 for example, I would drop the nose down right after I spawn, fly just above the treeline with cca 450- 500km/h.
Once I spot the opposition, I do a hit and run attack (sneeky) - hit or miss, I retreat toward my spawn . Rinse and repeat.
I found that game mode more realistic for planes as there are no visible indicators , you have to use your eyes.
In fact, most WW2 airbattles started with a sneak attack. This is not the case in air RB.
I found that it's unfair that the opposition can know your position, exact airplane type and distance.
What would be your comment? You could make a video on ground RB dogfights
i dont play ground RB, but i can understand the sentiment.
Well done
ty sir!
Have you done the pursuit tutorial? I'd love to hear more
so much to do, so little time ;) i'll do my best.
Thank you so much for this
I was very good at BNZ but then I started to play china lol so I I kinda forgot BNZ now adays I'm getting my ass handed to me by spitfires and hurrains coz my dumb ass turns with it got habitual with turning
time to correct that ;)
Thumbs up. Check. Subscribed. Check. Booming and zooming. Roger that
Only issue I have is if I fail to get an enemy KIA it seems they go from having no energy to magically being able to catch up to me while I’m climbing again from my dive somehow.
dont go too steep when zooming out, first extend if you face a plane thats a good energyfighter. ppl with skill will try to catch the B&Z'er on the zoom.
@@jengar6258 thank you! Started doing this and have definitely noticed a difference!
@@cjaydustie1867 good to hear! o7
Great vid
I'm a ground RB player. I can't stand how many planes there are in 'Ground RB'. SPAAs at lower BRs are basically useless unless enemy pilots are very stupid and get very slow. I want to take a fighter to counter CAS players, but even trying 'boom N zoom' strategies it never works out. Even starting with an energy advantage, not turning too much in the dive, and trying to maintain speed... If I miss, which happens often, the enemy can still usually catch me, or at least chase me forever, when I pull out of the attack. I don't understand why, even with 'energy advantage', the enemy planes can still give chase and not stall out. I go from 600mph into a shallow climb, and they simply follow me forever. It's frustrating as I am very bad at turn fighting, and trying to do a reversal usually just gets me killed.
Yeah pretty much same for me I got tired of getting bombed constantly and not being able to fight back trying to research planes but it just feels almost impossible for me to get even one kill
no one told me boom and zooming is the easiest playstyle, I do much better in turn fighters than boom and zooms, granted I mostly play the a6m5 but I don't know why people think dog fighting is so hard, also I sometimes have trouble with getting to much speed and being forced to pull up or break my wings, how do you avoid this?
American planes when they have the height advantage:🥰
American planes when the enemy team actually climbs:💀
I’m just struggling right now with the P-51C-10
Only having 4 50 cals is a struggle for me
its not an easy plane to finish with.
@@jengar6258 I kinda learned it by now I’m up to the P-47N-15
I must rather the book and zoom playstyle with its 8 50’s
@@joebidenshusband6593 roger that, good job!
Started trying to B&Z in my La-7 that I bought last night, however I still cannot figure it out. Couldn't even hit a P-51D flying 800 meters infront of me.
7000m altitude 3.0, somehow a random guy in a bf109 came from above
yes mate

so i have this little problem that where i try to b&z on a plane that is turning as i continue to dive into it. (do bear in mind i use ato target tracking because if you play with controller it is the only viable strategy) as i roll slightly and pitch towards it to keep it in my sights, the instructor starts acting up and either i start yawing uncontrollably to the point i start missing my shots,my sights move away or the instructor corrects my rolling before i can get a shot and i have to pull away
what do you recommend me to do in these situations?
no idea, i dont play with controller, nor target tracking.
Me in an M.B who has a timer of 120 bullets before I must climb again
I’m very new around tier 2 of the us tree in finding that I can’t kill the target before I would need to pull out or the dive is that my aim or is there something else
most likely yes. practice makes perfect. Dont shy away from making a practice scenario in the test flight mode. practicing aim against ai planes is a good idea.
Hey can u make like a guide on the USA aircraft? inda interested in them :)
i have rank I usa review up, and im working on rank II atm. Will be out this month.

Is there anything I can do to improve my dive so when I'm about 2KM above the target there isn't an angle they can just turn away at and my dive is wasted because I'm going too fast to adjust that much?
Just getting off the ground can be tough at first
hehe, yeah, i remember, i crashed from take off on my first rb match.
Fw190 is the best boomnzoom
I used to be extremely good at BnZ and my aim was amazing, now I suck and I can barely get a kill per match. Shouldn't have taken so many breaks.
rustyness it temporary.
I dont know what to do against turn fighters. All the how to kill turn fighter guides havent helped. I dive on I-16's from 3km above and they stick on my tail even when I fly straight to reset the attack run, and I can never gain any separation unless I fly to my base in my 109 E3. I try flying around my rip speed, but they always catch up to me. I can never 1v1 a turn fighter. The only way I have managed so far is with 3 or more players keeping the turn fighter moving and one of us can kill him. Someone please help me... Any links to videos I may have missed? Or at least recommend the video so I can look it up? Thank you so much!!
You in a E-3, comming from a dive, being caught by an i-16 who just turned to avoid you? This is impossible if you do things right. You'll have to check well how you make your exits. Do you look at the enemy while you pass? do you use rudder and elevator to avoid getting shot if he shoots at you? Do you exit the opposite way from where he turned? Analyse your replays when you die. Watch it from your perspective, and then watch it from the enemy's perspective. Analyse it and improve.
PS, there is no special trick, just hard work and self improvement. Ad experience to that and you'll become a veteran.
@@jengar6258 Thank you that helps a lot!!
@@hmmnope9231 np mate! o7
Great video! Is there a way to defend yourself from a Zoom and Boom?
yes, maneuver in time, try to get them to commit and then to make them overshoot.
Just turn towards them. They will lock up and wont be able to follow up. Then use your superior turn rate to just get on their 6.
I trying BnZ with P47 15d re. Its horrible, this planes sucks, i buy by mistake.
best german t2-3 for boom and zoom?
Why do I even play War Thunder? Its like working a second job...
its only a 2nd job if you focus too much on the grind. Try to play and enjoy it while you play. It's about the journey, not the progress.
@@jengar6258 Low tier with vehicles you've never heard of us beyond boring and frustrating. The journey blows
@@mrcroob8563 then learn a little bit of history. The journey is also vital to make yourself a competant pilot. Skip it at your own peril. Dying time and again in jets will burn you out faster then you might think.
I've put over 1000 hours into WT but now on console im a noob again.
get that mouse and keyboard.
@@jengar6258 while I enjoyed whooping console players, I prefer the comfort of a controller. Plus I refuse to run from a challenge.
@@ScopeKing1994 I feel you there keyboard and mouse is definitely easy mode for sure. Doesn't take much skill compared to a controller
"most Boom-and-Zoom fighters don't climb great" feels like a statement that shouldn't be true just based on the logic on being 'suited' to that playstyle yet not being equipped properly to do it yet it unfortunately is.
what are some good planes for boom and zooming?
Any US aircraft
Im leveling the USA tree, 1st plane tree, life is HARD.
keep at it brother!
@@jengar6258 I will do 👊
How do you know if a plane is fit for boom and zoom? The heavier the better?
High dive speed, good handling in a dive, and preferably good finishing power.
Im more of a Miss and zoom pilot
It will never work unless you have good aim
The Me-109 was indeed a good hit and run fighter, but it could turn at low speed as well... If not quite as well as the FW-190A, in part because turning was wrongly shunned as a doctrine by Me-109 pilots. That only changed very late in 1944, when turn fighting was finally understood to be more practical than hit and run (at least on the Western Front), with a 1% hit rate... In the real world, the FW-190A was the probably the purest slow speed turn fighter of the entire War: It literally did nothing else well (what sea of nonsense Eric Brown said about this notwithstanding): It was the purest turn fighter this side of the Ki-43 Oscar, with possibly the worst high-speed handling of all WWII fighters. Russian Red Fleet evaluation said: "It will inevitably offer turning combat at a minimum speed." while Clostermann, who shot down 10 of them, said the notion that the Spitfire out-turns the FW-190A at low speeds below 240 mph (the Spitfire did out-turn it at high speeds around 280) was "a good joke. Few who tried it came back to complain about the Spitfire legend." Johnnie Johnson himself, with 20 FW-190A kills said (top Allied scorer on the 190): "The Spitfire would be out turned by the FW-190A: In multiple consecutive circles, it was only a matter of time." Turning at low speed was the most important attribute of a WWII fighter, because it "locked the target in" and also easily broke high speed diving attacks, while giving the guns a lot of time to take effect: See more on this on my channel: ruclips.net/video/uYnCI3XURx0/видео.html, or: ruclips.net/video/S31ZtXFHFFQ/видео.html

BnZ is all about patience, wasting your time climbing in a video game is not really fun
nope, true, but nessesary ;)
You are a military pilot or something?
No Mate, Im just a War Thunder Veteran (8years) thats interested in aviation.
TLDR, you'll watch this any go back to just trying you f##king best not to get killed 5 seconds into a realistic air match.
You need to give yourself time to learn and incorporate concepts into your flightstyle and fingers. Takes time.
yeah literally none of this matters this game is broken
