There is a real scarcity of good learner’s guide after Longsh0t stopped uploading. Good to see someone making beginners guides like his that’s up to date.
I was like a schoolkid learning something new, and I've been playing since 2013 (and I thought I knew what E-Fighting was). Totally on a different level of understanding. Thanks Defyn
I love-hate how much situational dogfighting is: you could be the best pilot in the world, but if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, you're dead.
That's exactly what it was like in the War, just as Tanks were situational too most of the time, coming down to who fired first, and unless it was a light tank vs a heavy tank, most projectiles during the war were enough to one shot most tanks, even Tigers
When I saw this video I realized I was doing more or less the same things you do instinctively! but I did them wrong. *Now I can do them right.* Thank you!
@@DEFYN Yep, thanks! Now after this August at the village I'mma go back to war thunder and lose all matches despite starting with a Chaika and yelling ZERO OP when I fight Japanese with my Yak 9u

Your guides helped me to improve as a pilot a lot in just a couple of days! I definitely found way more success fighting with energy in mind, i even just stalled someone for the first time and gunned them down! It felt like such a thrill, my adrenaline is still going crazy! Now i see why people like planes so much, it's hella fun, when you know what you are doing, so huge thanks for making those guides, i just might start to truly enjoy and appreciate planes because of you :)
This is probably the best form of instructional guide I have seen for Air. The graphical simplifications backed by real-world examples really made the points much more clear and evident to me. At least for me, this was better than just the typical "1 vs 12 ACE Carry kIlLeR Plane" videos that are more common for the game. Now if only I can break a lot of my bad habits that you pointed out for me. Much appreciated.
Hurried through the tutorials and thought I was decent, but after watching this, my tactics completely changed and I got so many more kills. Came back just to say that
I notice in game, at least as a new player, there is an idea that some planes are energy fighters and others are not. This video helps clean that up and shows that all fighting is energy fighting. Good job, excellent video. Have fun and keep improving 😉
Oh man, i can't thank you enough. Although I'm at over 1400 hours of War Thunder i still feel like i'm in the learning phase. I think my and actually most peoples problem is that "we" play too kill-thirsty. We'd rather dogfight a plane we can't outurn just because of energy loss than play smart and maybe pass on a kill. Extremely helpful, keep it up!
Thanks so much for this video. I have been "flying" sims for over 30 years, but this is really good and useful info, it's something I have rarely done, specially in War Thunder, maybe because of the grind, you try to go to get something even if you lose instead of trying to win and end up empty handed.
You should maybe do a smaller quide on clibing, that could include the following: the importance of climbing (even though it is mentioned right here), how to climb in props, should you side climb and if so by how much, what are the differences of climbing in a jet rather than a prop and that at what speed should you climb.
The first match i applied these tips i got 4 kills, and knew what too do when an enemy comes head on. Knowing what to do with energy is as important as having it. Your tips are much appreciated
Geez this is way more complicated than I thought, I've been tailing enemies and shooting at them like I'm in a Star Wars game, in the 2017 Battlefront 2 I was 15th in the entire world on the leaderboards for Spaceship assault and couldn't understand why I sucked so bad at War Thunder by comparison, but now I see that directly following an enemy isn't the best thing to do, it's gonna take some getting used to but I love German planes from WWII (NOT THE GERMAN MENTALITY OR BELIEFS from WWII before anyone calls me a Yahtzee) and knowing they're the purest energy fighters, well I'm more than willing to learn and master it
I feel like every pilot I go against plays like you and my team plays like the players you kill, most games typically end with me and one other teamate left with 5 enemies who refuse to split up from eachother and if they do they often just use their spawn aa's as much as possible
Very informative vid. I am amazed that despite all the stuff out there people still like to do them silly spiral chases. Although I like when they do lol. For me, you can skip on animations. Very good skills on your part, I couldnt do em myself, but as u said takes a lot of time and effort. Very good stuff and keep em coming, specially in regard to US tree line, since they dont retain speed in verticals that well. Thx for your work dutchman!!!!
This video and the examples are super helpful! I must’ve watched them 5 times already in the past 2 days. Could you make a video similar to this, but applying book and zoom tactics? I seem to struggle picking the right target as I dive too low for one and pull up too sharply.
I must say, the level of English here is amazing. Of course you can still tell that he's from Holland, but I'm really impressed because it's not the standard Dutch-English. Good job mate!
As much as I like to meme you. I really do hope people watch this and try and learn something. I hate seeing people at all BR ranges play so poorly when it comes to air combat. well done.
It's insane how much there is to this compared to ground or naval which is pretty damn simple. I just hope I can apply this to myself with my current yak-3
you just barely touched on it, but i was hoping you would go into detail on how to use horizontal energy retention. it's HUGE for being able to use US planes effectively, and is probably the number one reason why allied teams suffer so much, as it isn't immediately apparent how to use it to your advantage. for anyone who doesn't know, if you are in a heavy plane with a fast top speed like a p51 or a p47 and have an enemy behind you with the energy advantage, you can dive to equalize your energy states and use your superior high speed handling to avoid their shots, and then when you build up an excess of speed you can level out and begin a shallow climb to use your superior energy retention to bleed the enemy's energy, and you will be able to convert your energy into altitude more efficiently than the enemy if they follow your climb. a smart enemy in a plane that climbs well, like a 109, will probably follow you in a steeper climb to convert their excess speed into altitude more efficiently but will still lose more energy than you do. this makes the enemy an easy target for teammates, and any team of US planes who understands how to do this dominates.
Different kind of fighting, will cover in the future. I almost put it in here but I want to group it with something else, I hinted at it here. Video was dragging on and the other thing won't be that long
Your regular vids are really instructional and this is even more. I notice one thing you never lose control because of blackout. I am sure this not just due to crew but on how you fly and this would be very interesting. I lose my targets and dogfights because i blackout

If you're diving fast, then you have to pull up way before you reach the person, maybe at like 0.6km or even 1km. Yes that means in certain cases you shouldn't dive at all bc you won't even be able to shoot someone before having to pull off.
