This literally happened to me today from a white belt and I didn’t know what to do. Just a quick google search and this was the first result. Awesome!

Omg thank you I have a teammate that hates my guard and pulls this shit a lot! I normally eat the choke and turn my head to the side. Can’t wait to catch them next time!!!

I used to deal with this A LOT as a squirmy guard player!! This has saved me so much neck pain 😂😂😂

Nice Arm In Triangle Prof Vanessa! This is a great move for kids to learn as well. The forearm smash is something that feels easy to do, most of the time it doesn't get the tap but it can make life miserable on the receiving end if the counter isn't known..

Thank you so much! I’m a smaller player and bigger guys do this to me all the time... not anymore... lol

This is one of my favorite moves. You can also better connect the arms to finish the triangle (around larger opponents) if you do it after you turn to the side (1:22). You also have a good sweep from the arm triangle hold. Simply stretch them out and sweep thigh. You can then finish arm triangle from side mount. Last thing is, you can elevate the hips (to create a downward slope) when they frame the arm across the neck to take the pressure off. From there knock the arm across to lock the triangle hold.

Thank you Professor! There seem to be oddly few videos addressing this situation! I'm a fairly big dude but I still face this and even had to tap to it occasionally. I usually trap and spin to armbar but this seems so much more efficient. Thanks for sharing this technique OSS!

In my first club there was a dude who used to do that elbow pressure move in order to submit me from inside my guard. The problem was that he was around 6ft 2, 18 stone and could bench 400llbs so that elbow wasn't going anywhere but deeper into my throat, sadly.

It’s a blessing and a curse, those types of guys. It’s a blessing because we get to practice what jiujitsu was designed for. But it’s a curse because fuck those guys lol.

I used to struggle with people doing the forearm thing to me a lot as a white belt. I couldn’t make this counter work. But now I just armbar them. They are basically gifting you their arm.

There is only one problem with this move. Namaly, when someone puts the forearm across the neck and grab the laper or fabric on the shoulder. When they do that is almost impossible to push the forearm across. Any tips?

You can always let go of the guard and start going for a sweep

I have to wonder if this will work if the person on top is exerting a lot of pressure. I would like to see this with the pressure already established.

The whole point is that they are exerting pressure. In order to speak I asked my coach to demonstrate without breaking my voice box 😅 these moves work BETTER with more PRESSURE. Best of luck to you, let me know if you have more questions 😁🤙🏻

what if they're grabbing your lapel and it's harder/impossible to push their arm across?

I would personally trap the arm on the same side and start threatening some type of sweep, purple belt 4 stripes

This so extremely low percentage to try to choke while on the bottom.

The first escape/submission is affective. The second one, not so as you have to fight to go behind him and he wont allow you to go on his back.
