  • Avoid getting smashed by using these techniques. One of my go to moves when big strong guys try to smash me in Closed Guard. The first part of this video I learned from Rickson Gracie black belt Luis Heredia back around 2000.

Keep in mind I filmed this during the early days of covid when everything was shutdown, including my gym. So I was not able to show this technique with a big opponent. I am a Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belt and what I show in this video has worked for me against very big guys, including power lifters and wrestlers.

Good stuff! I'm an Allen Hopkins student in Hattiesburg and just met Luis Heredia in Pensacola at our yearly Team Hopkins seminar. Incredible teacher and a SWEETHEART of a man!

Yes, professor Heredia is an incredible teacher. Being a Pedro Sauer black belt I have heard of professor Hopkins but I have not met him yet.

This is so simple but super helpful, especially for a small guy like me, thanks for the video 🙏🏼

Nice video. I have been working on this with my coach and have developed a quick attack from this spot. Instead of doing the elevator sweep, as soon as I get my hooks in, I push them back and shrimp out and get to clamp guard while the top person is coming down. You can work an arm bar, kimura, and some other attacks from there.

Thanks. Clamp guard is something I recently started to work on in the last few months. I will have to look for that entry if someone tries to tripod smash me. I like clamp guard when I get it. I'm working through Brian Glick's instructional. So far I have been hitting triangles and still working on keeping my opponent's posture down.

Luis gave me my blue belt around the year 2000. He's a great instructor.

Cool. I got my blue also from Luis in 2001. He is a great instructor. I learned a lot from him and still use what he taught me back then.

I nearly tapped to this against a guy who has almost 100 lbs on me smothered me a similar way (he tripod but instead intentionally kept his double underhooks on my head and smothered my face with his chest plus the gi trapped all the hot air in lol). Adding this wonderful technique to my toolkit, oss!

I am a 1 stripe white belt ( for 2 years now). I submit most blue belts, and even some.purple belts, as I am relatively big (6'2 and 200 lbs) but I have a few people at my gym who are even bigger (6'4-6'8, and over 250 lbs), who sometimes just smash me in my own guard. Thanks for this vid, I was searching.for it for a while.

this was great; i commonly use this as a big guy, unaware of how it would be countered (its normally me screwing something else up lol).

You can actually counter what I show in this video. You just have to be more technical with the pass. In Jiu Jitsu for ever counter there is a counter to it, and then a counter to that, etc...

Would this work if they don’t get on the tripod and just stall in closed guard? I recently had a 140kg untrained 19y old do it to me. I eventually was able to sweep him but I had to wait for him to get completely gassed, because he was using way too much strength to keep me there. I’m afraid what might happen if he uses his energy more efficiently though. Anyone know the answer?

    • @waynesniffen9427

The technique in this video is for when they tripod. With a big 140kg guy I try to avoid closed guard. but, here is what you can do. I try to attack their upper body. In gi put a hand in their collar for chokes, in nogi (and gi) I go for a shoulder clamp to control them. Then I apply pressure to their shoulder to make them uncomfortable so I can slide myself out to attack their am. So if I clamp their left shoulder I slide out to my right. This is my favorite thing to do on big guys laying in my closed guard. Here is a video I did of the technique I am talking about. Same technique but just use the shoulder clamp instead. ruclips.net/video/SfX-3QmkgOo/видео.html

The other thing I do similar to this video is get a shoulder clamp and get my hooks in. Then I can sweep my opponent while on my back. Or if I get my hooks in frame on their face with my arms and push them back so I can get to seated guard.

This work in gi? Or just nogi?

    • @waynesniffen9427
      @waynesniffen9427  Год назад

It works in both gi and nogi. I first learned it in the gi when watching Luis Heredia (Rickson black belt) use it back around 2000 when rolling with a big guy.

I filmed this last year during the covid lock down so I did not have a big guy to demo this on.😃 But, I do use this all the time against really big guys who are the ones that like to smash you this way.

This clip would have more credibility if the person you demonstrated on was an actual big guy. The kid looks like a pissed off teenager who just got kicked out of the band.
