This is fantastic. I have a habit of jumping into guillotines and am okay as long as my hips aren't trapped, but if they had me in closed guard I am done. This gives me a real defense in closed guard, and refines my technique everywhere else, thank you!

Last night I rolled with a large, strong beast of a young man who often baits me into a guillotine, and it happened again, but I was able to slowly work out a defense and escape. Now if I could only do the same thing when he passes my guard and smershes me into the mat...working on it...
When I was learning guillotine defense as a white belt we were taught the classic Gracie Combative one where you hook your arm over the shoulder and frame on the hips and move to the opposite side of the choke and work a take down from the side. We were told never to go to the other side (choke side) as shown in this videos techniques.
However I have experienced successfully using techniques similar to the ones in the video out of instinct, using principles about base, connection etc. to figure it out on the fly. I think it depends on the physicality of your partner and how good/quick they are at securing a guillotine.

Not being choked is first, escape is second.
The first technique in this video is the exception to the rule of always going to the opposite side of the choke.
All the other techniques follow the rule of always going to the side opposite of the choke (the safe side).

These techniques are just basic jiujitsu. If it feels like it is not then you have skipped fundamentals.
